    Correct me if I'm wrong but why not blast them with grenades after they fell from their horses !???

      I think throwing grenades in an open field is way less effective than just rapid automatic rifle fire. The enemy isn't as packed together like in a building in urban warfare. By the time they used the couple grenades each soldier has on them they rapid fire would have eliminated way more opponents. You have to remember grenades in this age don't have as much firepower as modern ones, the blast range isn't as large as you'd think.
