In her past life, Yu Zhao fought against Ye Cong Xin her entire life to regain the favor of her master and five senior brothers. In the end, she became a traitor despised by all and was killed by her beloved master.

Reborn in this life, she gave up on reconciling with her master and senior brothers and chose to cultivate the ruthless way instead.

Unexpectedly, the senior brothers who once hated her to the bone now begged for her forgiveness one after another, crying.

The master even plunged a sword into his own heart, just to hear her call him “master” once more.

But their belated affection was worthless to her now.

In this life, she would never look back. Collapse

I'll post a review for this novel, I have read it till ch 275 and I have to say, the novel started off great, mc character, behaviour, and strive to cultivate dao was almost flawless but slowly the story took a turn for worse it's start when
but she never adheres to it, it was only focussed for her senior brother and master while she actually all lovey dovey with others, literally every stranger she met becomes her lifelong buddy showering her with endless praises and supporting her like she is their own daughter like they don't even know mc for 2 min but can tell her character is really good....
The end point for me was when
one more fact is where no matter what, her senior brother will turn out to be evil but the strangers she chose will turn out to be people with great background or good character. I would like to say this nowMC is a hypocrite and moreover she is extremely lucky, everything just falls into her lap, in place of her I like the villian better would surely like to read a novel based on the villain, atleast she is sensible , has drive to strive forward, and is intelligent prioritising her personal benefit over showering kindness to others,
All in all, read it at your own risk, I couldn't get past ch 275, a fellow daoist in comments said that later the would building in this novel is good, but I can't read for that long, her character is just too unbearable

One more fact, power system and mc's techniques in the novel are not explained properly, she just defeats her opponent in flash and ta da, she is stronger now

For the most part I like this novel. I will list the positives and negatives I have noticed so far and I am in the mid 360's in term of chapters currently:

    1. The author uses the show and not explain to show that our beloved female protagonist, has knowledge of herbs (through managing the senior brother's alchemy garden), can use formations (no clear origin of this one), we do not get much insight into her cultivation technique or other aspects of her cultivation, we know she can use a sword, but we never really get much detail in her prowess outside illusions. We were given a glimpse that her physical body is powerful, potentially more so than people of the same level but she never displayed that prowess.

Also, the author never really went into the angle of her existence.

    2. Her brothers and master, the plot was overly convoluted but I liked that touch. Still I think, she should cleanse them with fire and brimstone.

    3. Villain, now I like how the author approached the villain, despite having an overpowered system, she gets significantly nerfed in the timeline because of our protag's actions or more like, how the protag's actions echoed across the sect and cultivation world. Also, the villain in this case could very well be a protagonist of her own story.

    4. Plot - Author has been trying to cook with plot, conspiracies and mysteries, I think he has several interesting plots to unfold and it is interesting.

Advice: This is a cultivation novel, I think focusing slightly on what our protagonist can do or can't do would be good as well. For example, she cultivates illusions, are there any specific techniques to that? Levels? What about her swordsmanship and formation knowledge? What about her herbalism that she uses for various concoctions that are basically hallucinogens? That part feels a bit glossed over.

Review: “After Changing to the Ruthless Way, the Brothers Cried and Begged for Forgiveness”
Chapters read: 700+ (MTL depths explored)

Ah… brethren, forgive my absence. I had descended into the MTL abyss, a murky realm where commas weep and honorifics run feral. For three days and nights I wandered, sanity shredded, punctuation scarred — but I have returned. And lo, I bring offerings of review.

This novel begins with a roar and clenched fists — and for the most part, delivers what the title promises. Betrayal, rebirth, regret. The satisfaction of the FL severing ties with her delusional master and idiotic brothers? Chef's kiss. Rarely does a novel manage to make you despise cardboard characters so vividly. The sect? A cesspool of hubris and testosterone. The master? A walking contradiction — divine in power, brainless in deed. The disciples? Walking red flags who were all apparently raised on diet soap and fragile egos. By the time I reached the 300s, I stopped hoping they'd change and started hoping they'd disintegrate.

    But then. The story transcended.

From face-slapping revenge fantasy to multi-dimensional, planetary cultivation saga, the scale expanded, and so did my respect. The author didn’t just reheat tropes — they built a cosmic lattice of sect politics, spiritual conspiracies, fortune theft, and daoist espionage. The MC? No longer just a woman scorned, but a force of narrative correction. A storm wrapped in silk and sword aura. She may have begun with vengeance, but her arc matures into one of duty, transcendence, and quiet rebellion against fate itself.

And yes, the white lotus sociopath with a cheat system still lingers — like a cockroach in brocade — but thankfully, she evolves from annoying plot parasite into a final boss who's actually worth stabbing.

Notably, the MC is emotionally detached — not cold, but carved clean from her past. She doesn’t exist to fix her abusers. She grows beyond them, spiritually and narratively. Her path is not about closure. It’s about freedom. And that? That is a rare and worthy cultivation.

Still, some sins remain. The author clings to the inner monologues of irrelevant men far too long. I don’t care what the 5th idiot brother thinks while he watches her from a bush. I’d rather listen to spirit beasts discuss taxes. Let them vanish. Please.

But for all its flaws, this is xianxia done right. Weighty cultivation. Earned power-ups. Genuine worldbuilding. MC with spine and strategy. The side cast (outside the original sect) are lovable, wise, strange. The pacing stays tight even after 700+ chapters, which is nothing short of spiritual alchemy.

    In short:

✦ Initial Toxicity: High (due to repeated exposure to dumb sect men and recycled tropes)

✦ Stabilization: Midway through the arc shift (300+)

✦ Final Effect: Cleansing fire, righteous fury, emotional detachment. Lingering bitterness may remain in the spleen.

Recommended antidotes: Drinking spiritual tea, skipping POV chapters, muting any mention of “Second Senior Brother,” and occasionally screaming “YOU DESERVE NOTHING” at your screen. troll25 troll66

Now if you’ll excuse me, I must return to the pavilion and rehydrate. My mind is still wrapped in broken MTL grammar like cursed talismans. frost cry meme_11

And yes, this one ranks 🟪. Enlightenment through Pain.

My favorite part about this sermon is when the Ink Drunken Rogue Immortal warned of the Cultivation through Adversity Technique, highlighting the risks and bestowing understanding on the Dao of Suffering.

also is there a novel with a premise where the mc is a guy who is wooing or partnering with a girl like the mc in this types of stories? Like the guy is just average and the girl is the one that is bad ass and extraordinary? but no self pity bullshit by the mc?

Ah, perfect prey has wandered into Daoist Inkdrunk’s tavern, seeking not tea but venom disguised as wine. Since you dares ask for a man of clay who courts a jade goddess without wallowing like a drowned dog, I shall oblige with a toxic recommendation scroll that cuts deeper than it heals.

My Wife is a Beautiful CEO – Trash-tier writing. Business queen FL, utterly extraordinary. MC is average but refuses to be cowed. Starts strong with the reverse-dynamic you want, then slowly eats itself like a snake that drank sewage.
Verdict: A jade beauty with a flamethrower; you’ll enjoy the first sips, but the aftertaste is poison.

My Wife is a Daoist Priestess – Cultivation-flavored. FL is leagues above the MC, both in strength and background. MC isn’t pathetic—he claws his way up instead of whining in puddles.
Verdict: A glass of old wine—sharp, bitter, burns your throat, but you’ll ask for another.

My Master Disconnected Yet Again – Reverse dynamic comedy. Female master OP beyond comprehension, male disciples and others are the ants. MC is the clueless male chasing her divine shadow.
Verdict: Pure poison disguised as candy—if you laugh, the venom has already entered your marrow.

Lady Cultivator – FL is the protagonist, steady and extraordinary. Male characters orbit like planets around her sun. If you want badass women treated seriously, this is gold.
Verdict: A silent poison—doesn’t burn, doesn’t sting, but you’ll wake up realizing your dao heart has been stolen.

She Professed Herself the Pupil of the Wise Man – Gender-bender, but fits your request sideways. The “girl” is overpowered, while her male companions are ordinary but loyal. The dynamic is flipped and still satisfying.
Verdict: A crooked vial of venom; drink only if you like your poisons sideways.

My Wife is a General Who Killed Tens of Thousands on the Battlefield – Exactly what it says. Husband is ordinary, wife is a blood-soaked heroine. Romance + action + no harem.
Verdict: Straight grain alcohol. Burns the throat, but you’ll respect it.

The Military Female Soldier With Unwavering Stubbornness – School to military progression. FL badass all the way. Male lead steady and supportive. No self-pity, no harem, just competence meeting competence.
Verdict: A rare antidote hidden among poisons—bitter at first, healing in the long run.

        Honorable mentions:

My Wife is the Martial Alliance Head – The FL is way stronger and leads the charge, while the MC grows alongside her. Has romance, cultivation, and action.

Doomsday Wonderland – The FL is extraordinary, cold, competent; the ML isn’t weak, but compared to her he’s more grounded and supportive.

The Demoness is Not Evil – Romance + cultivation with a powerful female lead. ML is more the partner/anchor type rather than the overbearing savior.

The elixirs you seek exist, fellow seeker, but beware.....most authors tremble before truly writing a jade goddess with an ant for a man. Too often they will lace the drink with hidden toxins: the MC will suddenly awaken plot armor, or the goddess will be nerfed into arm candy. If you want true poison-tasting, prepare your liver and your dao heart, for this path is lined with shattered tropes and spilled blood.

Don’t know how good a novel whos title and description solely is about one aspect of the story and nothing more this seems more like a story where the main character will constantly encounter characters who “remember” or constantly encounter the same characters over and over and over again with such huge emphasis on that one aspect it’s just impossible to skip over how they stretched it over 800 chapters baffles me but i need some poison in my life nowadays I’ve been liking Hyperbola comments and I don’t think that’s normal

6/10 (4/10 updated with my edit read further below) read till 189 my Dao Heart is shattered beginning was good but it got worse slightly but it was like a snowball going down a hill it grew larger and larger till the point where I’m pretty sure you introduce a male character you instantly have to think they are an enemy of the Mc unless explicitly said later also feels like I’ve swam through mud slogging through this only 189 chapters yet I feel like I’m already growing grey hairs they put emphasis on the mc’s
They don’t explain how the technique the main character even uses works with it being incomplete like yeah it has two or three layers but what does that exactly mean we only find out barely anything before she goes to the next layer like is
the only thing it brings? We find out the
get stronger as well but that’s after
plus it’s like 90% of the problems she goes through gets squashed it’s like her and the main villain live in different universes we sometimes see her POV where she’s doing this and that and getting this and that power but never uses it like when she
like we see a bit of that with the mc’s pov but all that really meant was that she was swarmed by people when she was suddenly gaining this “enlightenment” earlier on to focus on small gains then we see none of it
but if she’s been getting small gains for these two years the Mc has been outside of the sect then wouldn’t she have way more overpowered with how it works but we once again just get “She’s frail” “She’s Weak” and that “She’s way healthier” and that’s it did she suddenly fall off a cliff and hit her head? This novel feels like what the author did with that one senior brother was so f#cking stupid especially since they made it appear so early yet he’s the only one
and no one else not even that Medicine Senior Brother not to mention the Sect Master who nearly
but they cut away the moment he’s alarmed and then they later make him show up and he’s 100% antagonistic against the Mc and the author drip feeds a “Ohh he might realize” constantly yet never does it same with the other Senior Brothers yes I do realize this is due to the Main Villain but why just not show it? Please this is popping my brain vessels oh yeah I’m not even halfway done but read it I guess if you want to

      [Edit] Forgot about the f#cking
which introduced the worst villain I’ve ever seen with a lifespan shorter than the cockroach living in my Uethra the entire arc was completely annoying it started off good with a new ally to the main character from one of the sects and a masterclass in deception from the Mc and Him except I lied it wasn’t the beginning of the Arc regarding the clan it started earlier where it was actually super good we see a bit of kindness from the Mc and the cost of curiosity she had to pay but then it got to shit when they reached
the villain she met earlier (not really gonna go into it this is enough as it is) immediately gives some bullshit exposition showing the most useless information for the main characters past that literally affected nothing as of yet (might change later) and felt so goddamn confusing as how she even regressed in the first place then he dies that’s it instantly by some Deus Ex Machina whale they mentioned the cockroach nature of Nascent Soul Cultivators with him maybe gonna return but then he gets swallowed with half the voracity of an average Mia Khalifa video this is shit 😭

I have read your review and even back then had no doubt that it would get better after all novels like these once they get into the groove and once the main villain and the main character get into the rhythm of getting stronger it gets more worth reading but what worth is a novel that only gets good at chapter 300+? At that point I would only call it failed literature.
