Enlightenment used to mean seclusion in a mist-wreathed cave. In Kunxu City, it means taking out a Mana Loan with 29.9 % karmic interest.

Spirit-root transplants come with payment plans, breathing techniques are locked behind paywalls, and your first meridian won’t open unless you swipe a “QiCard.”

That’s the brutal marketplace Zhang Yu wakes up to after his soul is shoved into the body of a penniless high-schooler—one already drowning in soul-devouring debt.

With only thirty days before the collectors start carving repayments from his flesh, Zhang Yu must monetize every heartbeat just to stay alive.

He livestreams back-alley sparring matches, peddles black-market talismans between classes, and negotiates mid-fight sponsorship deals to afford tomorrow’s cultivation pills.

Yet the higher he claws—from broke freshman to headline-making “High-School Saint”—the more he uncovers the engines grinding his classmates into golden dust: predatory fintech sects, exam-hall death matches, and an influencer economy that feeds on shattered dreams.

If you’ve ever felt the squeeze of tuition bills or the rush of a last-second power-up, Zhang Yu’s frantic hustle through monetized immortality will feel all too hilariously—and terrifyingly—familiar.

Original description:

Elder: “Do you seek revenge?”

Young Man: “I've been repeatedly humiliated by powerful cultivators, treated as trash by my Master. How could I not want revenge?”

The Elder patted the Young Man's head and sighed, “Good child, I shall impart cultivation to you."

The Young Man gasped, “Senior! How can this be?”

The Elder extended his hand: “Give me your phone.”

The Young Man watched the changes on his phone, shocked: “Senior! Where did this hundred years of cultivation come from?”

The Elder smiled faintly: “Good child, this is your reserve cultivation from the Heavenly Court. You can draw upon it instantly whenever needed, so you'll never be insulted again.”

The Young Man frowned: “Isn't this... a Mana Loan? I'm afraid”

Elder: “The Heavenly Court is a major platform. New users borrowing 100 years of cultivation get 30 days interest-free, and the daily interest is as low as half a day's cultivation—less than a full cycle of your meditation!”

...

Zhang Yu snorted coldly and closed the advertisement above. Collapse

Grit your teeth and get used to this twisted corpo dystopia cultivation world, and you can easily find the pleasure in low interest loans and high debt (Ch.382)
The Characters are great, The MC is great, and the dynamic the MC has with the FL is something beautiful.

The Cheat in this Novel is apt to be described as a snowball rolling down a hill. Honestly the whole Novel fits that description, it's just getting better, and better.
It was hard adjusting to this world at first, but right now, I'm incredibly motivated to keep reading and ready to dive into MTL.

Edit: I'm at Ch.744 now in the MTL, and it's been phenomenal. The next Arc is starting, and I'm a little nervous.

I've finally caught up to the MTL (currently on chapter 868), so it's time for me to make a proper review.

I had to make this a bit shorter than my original review, but let me start by saying a few things. While I wouldn't call this novel a flawless masterpiece—it definitely has its negative points—its positive points are so strong that, as another reviewer mentioned, it has literally made me forget to sleep just to keep reading. The biggest proof of my dedication is that I actually coded a custom app specifically for this novel just to batch text-replace a massive glossary of Ranobes MTL terms. That way, the terminology stays consistent, giving me a much smoother reading experience. Every time a term gets changed in the MTL, I note it down so my app corrects it for future chapters.

Let's start off with the positives:

World Building and Background - The world building in this novel is absolutely fascinating. At the beginning, I was surprised by how terrible the world was for a transmigrator from Earth. The author takes modern corporate culture, extreme academic competition, and capitalistic exploitation, and dresses them up in Xianxia robes. In this world, if you have money, you're a heavenly talent with enormous Immortal path potential. If you're a poor scum, you're treated as less than human. It's a world where cultivators, even starting from the Qi Cultivation realm, do not sleep and work for the vast majority of the day.

However, the higher the MC climbs (the world is divided into 36 floors above ground and 18 which are underground), the shittier the world gets in terms of the mega-corporations' greed and the capitalism of the powerful elites. In standard Xianxia, the Heavenly Court is a divine, untouchable realm. Here, it’s basically an apex mega-corporation manipulating the market and forcing lower-realm cultivators to fight each other for scraps.

Another brilliant aspect is the subtle cyberpunk-esque vibe. It's a highly advanced world, but instead of neon cybernetics (like Cyberpunk 2077), it’s driven by highly advanced Immortal Dao technology. I find this world incredibly entertaining and refreshing to read because it's unlike anything I've ever seen before.

Side Characters - In this novel, the side characters are actually important. A lot of them are not just one-time appearances, largely because the main character is someone who values old ties. The MC isn't some overly OP protagonist who can do every single task under the heavens like in other cultivation novels; he has his own specific areas of expertise, and for the areas he lacks in, he relies on his side characters to help him.

Main Character - Zhang Yu is ruthless enough to survive the system, but he isn't a heartless murder-hobo like many classic Xianxia protagonists. He actually tries to game the system to bring his friends and classmates up the corporate ladder with him, which makes him highly relatable.

In this world, to survive, you might have to do a lot of things that someone from Earth would find highly disturbing. What I like about the MC is that while he tries his best to adapt to Kunxu (the name of the world), there are some lines he absolutely refuses to cross. He has a bottom line. For example:

"Power" - Unlike classic Xianxia, the guy with the biggest fist or the strongest sword does not rule here. Yes, you might have immense power, but without the ability to produce money and profit with that power, you are not considered talented. You need to be able to lead people, manage public relations, and manipulate the stock market to reach the highest realms. Furthermore, people aren't afraid of classic "heavenly talents" (like someone who can instantly learn a martial art just by looking at it). Firstly, because doing so is illegal. If you practice a martial art without a permit or advance to a higher realm without a license, you will be hit with IMMENSE fines and crippled by debt, forcing you into unpaid overtime or worse.

Chapter Length - Each chapter is around 2,000 words, which is a fantastic length considering the average web novel chapter is usually much shorter. Later down the series the author sometimes even combines 2 or 3 chapters together making some chapters reach 4-6k words, though i don't remember if he has done so during the earlier chapters.

    Negatives
Pacing - The novel starts with decent pacing, but given the massive word count per chapter and the current number of chapters, I feel the author definitely could have progressed the story a lot further by now. (Though I admit I’m mostly feeling this way because I’m fully caught up and have to wait for new chapters). However, the Foundation Establishment realm is undeniably too long. The author 100% could have cut down on chapters there; some parts felt dragged out, especially certain competitions that really didn't need to be that long.

Here is a quick breakdown of the realm pacing:

Qi Refining Realm: Decent pacing. It's the start of the story and the MC needs to find a way to advance. The author uses this time to show us the brutal difficulty of advancement for a poor cultivator, so it’s reasonable.

Foundation Establishment: Quite long, though enjoyable for the most part. Another thing to note is that for those who love high power level worlds is that FE cultivators aren't that weak in this world—they can even shatter mountains if they have strong cultivation methods.

Future Realms: The rest of the realms have great pacing. My personal favorite part of the novel is

However I can only say this from foundation establishment to the current realm MC is in. I cannot say the pacing of future realms. Current realm of MC in chapter 868 is

Romance - If you saw the romance tag and came here expecting sweet, fluffy romance, you'll be disappointed. Personally, I don't mind it. The romance is honestly an extremely slow burn, which makes perfect sense given their brutal living situation, the FML's specific cultivation method, and the oppressive nature of the world itself. Both the MC and the FML are heavily focused on cultivation. That being said, the FML is a very likable character, and the MC and FML genuinely care a lot about each other, just as they should.

    Overall Rating - 4.3/5

Don't trust the high rating (currently 4.5 stars), as it is clearly inflated due to its placement on the site's main page. The main idea of this novel is debt... taken to the point of absurdity. For example, by removing a scar from battle for a lot of money, you receive an advertising marker for several weeks . Over time, you get used to it and it becomes very boring.
We encounter the most repulsive type of system for me...

The pace of the story's development and the cultivation of the main character is very slow.

Since we have school life, how can we do without romance? But here it is literally castrated...

To sum up, this work has many advantages, but for me personally disadvantages significantly outweigh them. My personal rating for this work is 3.5 stars...
P.S. After reading the first 50 chapters, you will understand whether it is worth your time.

It's not that serious man, like most novels, it's just power level go up simulator. That's what we're here for. It may not be an intrigue-filled character driven narrative like some novels, but it does the worldbuilding very well. It's kinda like CCG - blending modern realities with traditional cultivation. The absurdity you refer to is the comedic element. This is a novel you're meant to laugh at. It's not praising the exploitation - it's an active critique of modern capitalism through the lens of what it would be like to cultivate immortality in a purely profit-driven system.

I personally find it refreshing. Reminds me of the absurdity of CCG. I like the number go up simulator. Slowly grinding up his power levels until he "maxes" his current tier before he "levels up" to the next realm. Building wealth just for it to suddenly lose its value at a higher context. Making more but always needing even more - isn't that the reality of climbing the corporate ladder? Like you said, you'll know after a few chapters if you like it. You don't need to like it. But me, I do. I like it a lot.

I want to add to ZzZ's comment, about the slow pacing of the cultivation progression you mentioned. This novel does indeed take place in a cultivation setting, but its primary setting is actually a capitalistic world and an academic progression story. So the pacing should be referenced against the monetary milestones and academic degrees the charaters get, because the cultivation realm is not always relevant in this story. And the pacing of these aspects is quite good, with many number go up moments that give you that same satisfaction
