Chapter 339: Transfer Student |
Whoa!
The classroom boiled over once again.
"So cute!"
Someone could not help but shout the first word that popped into their head upon seeing the transfer student.
She was indeed cute. With waist-length hair and snow-white skin, her figure and features were far more petite and youthful than anyone else in the class, easily sparking a protective instinct in others.
More importantly, her facial features were exceptionally exquisite, flawlessly set on a small face still carrying a hint of baby fat. At this moment, the word "cute" truly felt like it had been coined specifically for her.
Waves of chatter filled the room. Almost everyone's eyes were glued to the transfer student, while Takanashi Chisaki was similarly sizing up the people in the class.
Her sweeping gaze moved without hesitation until it paused slightly upon seeing Hoshino Gen in the front row by the window. Of course, she recognized at a glance that this exceptionally handsome boy with heterochromia was the detestable guy who had bought the entire box of lollipops at the convenience store a few days ago, showing her the sinister nature of human hearts.
After all, with those looks and having done something that left such a profound impression on her, it was naturally hard to forget him in such a short time.
The reason was simple—she had already found out yesterday.
That ridiculously beautiful idol named Hoshino Rin had visited her house last night, gifting them some delicious chocolate cookies. She had mentioned that they would be neighbors from now on and asked her and her grandmother to take care of them...
The moment she saw the idol, she immediately remembered the boy she had met at the convenience store. After all, they looked quite similar: both were mixed-race, and both had the same black and blue heterochromia...
Her grandmother had invited the girl inside for tea. While chatting, Chisaki could not resist asking if she had any siblings, and sure enough, she received the answer that she had an older brother.
Since yesterday was the final day before the start of the semester, the topic of school was naturally unavoidable. Thus, over the course of the conversation, many things became clear. She learned in advance which class she would be entering, and she knew ahead of time that the boy she had met once—who had left such a deep impression on her—would be one of her new classmates...
Of course, knowing it was just that—it held no other significance. She had long stopped caring about what happened back then. The only reason she paid slightly more attention to that boy was simply because of the beautiful idol who had visited her home yesterday.
The noise in the classroom was finally quelled by their homeroom teacher, Fujiwara Risa. She smiled at the transfer student and requested, "Please introduce yourself to everyone, Takanashi-san."
The transfer student tilted her small face upward slightly. With a very haughty demeanor, she turned to the podium, picked up a piece of chalk, and wrote her name on the blackboard in beautiful handwriting.
"Takanashi Chisaki," the transfer student declared softly, tossing the chalk aside and turning back to face the class. "That is my name."
After saying that, she fell silent.
Down below, some students whispered things like, "Her name is so cute," and "Her voice is cute too."
Fujiwara Risa broke a slight sweat, then prompted with an encouraging tone, "Is that all? You can also talk about your hobbies, or the subjects you are good and bad at..."
Takanashi Chisaki curled her lips and interrupted, "I do not have any."
'Even if I said them, no one would remember, and even if they remembered, it would be useless. Why waste the time? Did they not say this was one of the best high schools in Tokyo? Is this it?'
Her inner thoughts naturally went unheard. Fujiwara Risa's mouth twitched, and she managed a strained smile. "Alright then, pick an empty seat and sit down for now. We will rearrange the seating after the exams."
Takanashi Chisaki had already spotted the empty seats during her initial scan of the classroom. There were four open spots, all in the back row. She calmly met the gazes of her unfamiliar new classmates, carried her handbag straight to the last row, and took the seat by the window.
Having settled the transfer student, Fujiwara Risa let out a soft breath and continued, "Aside from Takanashi-san, our class will be welcoming two other transfer students. However, it seems those two cannot make it today, so we will now move directly into the homeroom session..."
Even though the homeroom teacher had informed everyone about the afternoon exams, it was still difficult to suppress a group of teenagers who had not yet shaken off the lingering mood of summer vacation. The entire morning after homeroom was meant for self-study, but in reality, the majority were just using the excuse of discussing academic questions to chat.
According to past conventions, Shimizu Yu would definitely have gone with the flow at a time like this. Today, however, she acted completely out of character, burying her head in a textbook and cramming relentlessly. She was studying so hard at the last minute it was as if her life depended on it.
Suzuki Sawami, who had pulled a stool up next to her desk, found this absolutely unbelievable.
Shimizu Yu shot her a sidelong glance and snorted triumphantly. "I told you I was serious this time. Just you wait! I am definitely going to blow your mind with this exam!"
"Oh? Is that so?" Suzuki Sawami arched an eyebrow, her face full of skepticism. As Shimizu Yu's best friend since childhood, she knew exactly what kind of nature this little idiot possessed.
Back in primary school, Shimizu Yu would often say the exact same thing, yet she always ended up at the bottom of the rankings every single time. It was not until junior high school that she stopped making such claims—probably because she had accepted reality.
Now that she was bringing it up again, Suzuki Sawami could already foresee the future...
However, not wanting to dampen her best friend's enthusiasm, she changed the subject. "Yu-chan, do you think that transfer student looks familiar? I feel like I saw her in that small park in your residential area when I went over to hang out..."
As she spoke, Suzuki Sawami secretly peeked at Takanashi Chisaki, who was sitting alone in the back row, reading a book with a blank expression.
"Yeah, she lives near my house, in the same residential area. We have never spoken, so we do not really know each other, but my mom knows her mom and her grandmother," Shimizu Yu casually replied to her best friend while silently memorizing vocabulary spellings.
"Oh! Then you are basically neighbors. Even though she seems a bit haughty, she is super cute! I think we could try talking to her. If we get along, we can bring her into our circle!"
Shimizu Yu opened her mouth, wanting to mention some rumors she had heard about the girl—that she was apparently quite difficult to get along with—but when the words reached her lips, they turned into, "Sure, why not."
"I will go ask for her contact info after class then." Suzuki Sawami's smile suddenly took on a silly, infatuated look. "But speaking of which, didn't Risa-chan say there were two other transfer students who haven't arrived yet? Do you think there will be a huge handsome guy among them? If it is a boy as dashing as Hoshino or his friend, and he just so happens to like my type... The start of a romance with a handsome transfer student... Hehehe..."
"..." Shimizu Yu choked in speechless silence. Ignoring her friend who had begun to drift into delusions, she lowered her head and earnestly focused on her own studying.
