Chapter 1071: Test (II)

At those words, swords were drawn and bows bent in an instant. Li Chenghui’s hand immediately pressed down on the Sixfold Profound Thunder Punishment Tokens. Gongsun Baifan reached for the long blade at his waist. Wang He and the others broke out in cold sweat, staring at one another in fear.

In truth, Li Zhouwei was not afraid of them. He had needed to weigh things carefully before Ding Weizeng’s arrival, but now, since both that burly man and Li Chenghui were present, handling the three before them was more than within their means.

The only worry is reinforcements from the Capital Immortal Dao…

He did not need to think for long. There were surely Purple Mansion Realm cultivators locked in confrontation within the great void above. If he fought these three now and lost, it would force Li Ximing into a disadvantage and constrain his actions.

He calculated silently, holding his halberd ready, his eyes narrowed in thought. Then he said coldly, "You’re welcome to try!"

Just then, a hearty laugh rang out from the horizon, followed by a loud voice. "Daoist Minghuang, I have come to aid you!"

Everyone looked up and saw a brown-yellow spirit boat of profound stone speeding toward them, sending waves of air rolling before it. At its bow stood a man in a dark, patterned robe. He was pale and beardless, with an urgent expression. It was none other than Kong Guxi, gate master of Profound Peak Gate!

The woman in the rainbow gown paled. At last she understood, and she furiously laughed, "So that’s it! You two families have joined hands in secret. No wonder you dared show such insolence!"

Kong Guxi arrived in the blink of an eye. Three men and a woman descended from the spirit boat behind him. Two of them were already at the mid-stage of the Foundation Establishment Realm. Now that they had five at their side, the balance of power instantly shifted.

Yet the woman in the rainbow gown showed no fear. She glared at Kong Guxi as she shouted, "Kong Guxi! How many years of lifespan does your Daoist Master even have left? And yet you dare to strike against my Capital Immortal Dao!"

Kong Guxi faced her with a cold, unyielding expression. Though he often smiled in his interactions with the Li Family, when this beardless man furrowed his brows and set his jaw, there was a chilling ruthlessness about him.

He called back, "I’ve long despised you! Practicing that cursed, headless ghost Dao, your ghastly airs are even more arrogant than those of the Dragon Maiden!"

Such words flew at her like a slap across the face. It was utterly unlike what one expected from him. The rainbow-gowned woman froze in shock, her cheeks flushing red as she prepared to retort.

But Gongsun Baifan suddenly pulled her back and shouted, "Careful!"

The rainbow-gowned woman turned her head instinctively, only to see the halberd-wielding man’s brow shining with radiant light as a vast surge of Bright Yang brilliance rose.

Heavenly Radiance, Hidden Light!

Li Zhouwei had been waiting for the moment she looked away. Heavenly Radiance, Hidden Light erupted, crashing down upon her. In that split-second, a metallic clang rang out as cold light flashed.

Gongsun Baifan drew his blade in a swift motion, unleashing a radiance of Geng Metal that shielded the rainbow-gowned woman. The heavens shifted from stillness to chaos in an instant. Thunder roared, True Fire spread, mountains seemed to rise, and the force of Geng Metal surged through the air.

————

The great void.

Li Ximing stood in the great void, clad in a white-and-gold Daoist robe. Radiance gleamed between his brows, and the colorful light of divine energy surged from his body. At his side, Changxi’s divine manifestation was fully formed as he appeared as a middle-aged man with white jade hanging on his chest.

Before them stood another, wearing a dark-blue Daoist robe. His face was small and his chin slightly pointed, yet his features had a certain handsome air. His long hair was tied neatly behind his head and spiritual aura clung to him as he held a sword across his chest.

Beneath him crouched a bird-beast covered in scales, shaped like a crow, with pitch-black eyes. The Daoist himself said nothing, watching them coldly.

"Daoist Ye Hui," Changxi said coldly.

Ye Hui stroked the slender, elegant dharma sword in his arms and finally spoke, "Zhaojing, what is the meaning of this?"

Ye Hui’s expression showed clear surprise. It seemed as though he had never considered that the Li Family would suddenly rise, much less that they would take over the holdings of Profound Peak Gate. His hand ran lightly along the sword’s edge as he said softly, "I thought you would humor that old man until he died, and then you and I would split Profound Peak Gate evenly between us. No need for fanfare, and no need for Purple Mansion Realm confrontations, wouldn’t that have been better?"

The sword in his hand did not seem to be a sword of sword Dao, but rather a ritual artifact for spellcasting, radiating rings of mana. Ye Hui smiled thinly as he said, "We could sort out the division of benefits afterward. Wouldn’t that be best for both of us? The lands of Profound Peak Gate would be taken by strength, its people would follow you, and the mountain gate would belong to me…

"I never thought, without me even moving, you would act first against mine. Now it has reached the point where two Purple Mansion Realm cultivators need to confront one another, birthing needless discord. Why bring this about?"

Ye Hui’s tone gradually lost its humor as he sighed, "So you truly mean to stand against me… A Purple Mansion Realm cultivator in his prime against a mess with no Purple Mansion Realm cultivator… Can you really not see which weighs heavier?"

He did not regard Changxi at all, as though the man did not exist in the great void. He spoke only to Li Ximing.

Changxi’s face darkened, his tone turning grim, "Ye Hui!"

Ye Hui glanced at him and asked, "Old man, do you mean to throw your life away against me? You could fight me to the death with your divine ability, but what then? You’re already half in the grave, yet you still can’t stop stirring up strife."

Changxi fell silent, speaking no further. It was Li Ximing who intervened, "Daoist friend, spare us the false pretenses. Hidden Cloud Cave has harmed my family time and again, and Chidu himself has overstepped propriety. If the Capital Immortal Dao bore even a shred of goodwill, matters would never have come to this point."

"Hahaha." Ye Hui let out a laugh and said, "So what if it’s true? What friendship is there, what goodwill exists between Purple Mansion Realm cultivators? Zhaojing, if you cannot see this clearly, you will suffer for it sooner or later…"

He seemed unwilling to continue, and said, "Since Wenhu has offended your family, take this rogue cultivator if you wish. As for the loss in the Hidden Cloud territory, I will not hold you accountable. Withdraw to Floating Cloud, and our two families will still have matters to discuss!"

"Withdraw?" Li Ximing’s hand tightened slightly within his sleeve. He did not believe a single word from Ye Hui’s mouth about splitting Profound Peak Gate evenly or slowly dividing benefits afterward. It all sounded tempting, but it was nothing more than empty talk.

Moreover, saving Profound Peak Gate did not mean Profound Peak Gate must be defended on every side. Li Ximing already had a favorable impression of Xuanmiao Temple, which gave him further confidence. Moreover, the outer-sea still held Jingyi Mountain.

He said coldly, "Since Daoist friend is unwilling to offer congratulations, I shall accept the Hidden Cloud Cave territory as the gift instead!"

Ye Hui’s brow furrowed as he stared back across the vast void. Spiritual light rippled through the great void, and the dharma sword in his hands began to tremble. Changxi stood unmoving in front of Li Ximing, his stance leaving no doubt about his resolve.

At this moment, Li Ximing had no fear of crossing swords with Ye Hui. Not only did he have Changxi beside him, who cared little for his own life, but once the two sides clashed, the first to suffer would surely be the Capital Immortal Dao’s direct lineage below. By the time three Purple Mansion Realm cultivators fought for days and nights, Li Zhouwei would likely already have stormed into Baiye territory.

"Good, good, good." Ye Hui merely nodded. "Take this territory then, but remember that Hidden Cloud Cave was not won by your clever schemes. When that old man dies, I will see how you clean up the mess!"

"No need for Daoist friend to trouble yourself over it!" Li Ximing replied with a smile.

Ye Hui sneered coldly as he vanished into the great void, leaving only a final bitter remark, "Old man, the day Profound Peak Gate will inevitably be carved up by the various families is not far off!"

Changxi said nothing. Li Ximing only watched Ye Hui’s figure recede. He offered no words of comfort, for the old Daoist had concealed matters concerning Kong Haiying, which was no small fault. Li Ximing still felt discontent and could not bring himself to speak. The two simply rode their divine arts across the skies toward the lake.

Changxi sighed. "I must have made Zhaojing laugh at me…"

What does even mean sword is not seem to be a sword of sword dao? İ think its try to say he is not a sword ımmortal and not strong.
God i hate these sword immortals strong trope. I mean why wood cultivator isnt strong but people uses sword always super strong compared to others? I only believe There is no strongest dao, only the strongest immortal exists.
İn other worlds one of my complain of xianxia tropes they limit themself with only sword around. They're taking the easy way out.

Zhouwei is a prodigy because he's basically a reincarnation of that Gold Core cultivator who dies to Mount Luoxia every incarnation.

It was never stated he was a halberd master or whatever.

His body, fate and technique all align perfectly which is why he is a genius. It's been stated plenty of times that his advancement speed is way too fast. Before he has to purposely slow down so that the other families don't become too suspicious.

Now he's cultivating, running the family, learning the halberd and other spells. If he were like Ximing and cultivating 90 percent of the time, he would probably be learning techniques to ascend to Purple Mansion by now.

        Something to take note of.

Li Ximing consumed all the Purple Mansion items beneficial for the breakthrough during his attempt. It's likely that in this time where they were desperately holding on during Ximing's breakthrough that they haven't been able to get more.

Remember that they still haven't fully replenished their mid tier power from the war and a lot of their high end power were occupied or missing.

        Ximing was breaking through.

Quinghong is missing in that grotto heaven.

Xhizi is stuck in the Azure Pond Sect.

        Kongheng was lured/driven away.

I can only thing of An Zheyan being free for late stage Foundation level members.

Taking these into account, rushing to Purple Mansion would be a desperate gamble and rushing to late stage would mean leaving the family with no direction.

If I remember correctly, his father who used to run the family died in his attempt for Foundation Establishment. His children are also too young and weak in cultivation to keep things in control.

i could be wrong, but i don't think Zhouwei has anything to do with Li Qianyuan, per se. he is a prodigy cause MC personally grafted the Bright Yang Fate on him.

of course Luo Xia's purpose for killing Li Quanyuan time and again and scattered the Bright Yang fates are to bring about new potentials to chipped in Qianyuan's Bright Yang Attainment and then swallow them up later, but rather than being one of candidate –who'd absolutely already got tagged and compromised somehow– Li Zhouwei (with Lu's backing) would probably be another player opposite of Luo Xia.

this is why i stopped caring about these random Purple Mansion mfs popping out of nowhere, cause there's Luo Xia at the end of this road, and they are way more dangerous than all of them combined

The sword immortal trope is all about their obsession with the sword. They are supposed to be really unique, but are over used.

The Sword Immortal Sect the Wanyu Gate is a good example of using it well.

It's declining because truly talented people were denied resources because of nepotism. Established families favoring their own over actual talent.

The constant mediocre talents outlasting the geniuses meant that they eventually lost their standing. With the loss of standing comes the loss of resources. The loss of resources means the loss of their ability to train new geniuses. A self feeding death spiral.

This shows the scarcity of the Sword Immortal talent. If it were common, more people would be able to achieve it and there would be no decline.

There should in fact be fewer people in the sect even if it was doing well. There would only be a few Sword Immortals of varying levels with most other people being mediocre talents too stubborn to change or already with a different focus.

A full sect with powerful Sword Immortals makes no sense unless it was equal in power or the most powerful sect. Anything else would mean they would not be able to attract or steal away enough geniuses from all the other sects.

Their obsession with the sword is where some of their power comes from, but it's all about their talent. Only with both do you get a true Sword Immortal.

The obsession with the sword means all else becomes less important. Spell arts, cultivation level even friendships suffer.

Imagine creating a character where their sword talent is maxed out and all their other talents are subpar or mediocre. All their skill levels are low while anything sword related is at master level.

This leaves them unable to do anything other than fighting.

Any Sword Immortal that has more than one other amazing feature is the equivalent to a power fantasy wish fulfillment character. Being smart or cunning is fine since you don't want a dumb character, but if they are also master crafters and spell casters then are they still Sword Immortals?
