Chapter 13: Mask |
"Heh heh heh..." Meng Haolin let out a dry, raspy laugh, as if anger was being squeezed out from his chest. "Li Yunxiang, don't you forget, I never deleted that video you recorded when you first learned to use the Trim command!"
Li Yunxiang's body trembled. Her lowered head lifted. Although tears still stained her face, the corners of her mouth curled up slightly, and a mocking glint appeared in her eyes, as if she had suddenly become a completely different person.
Wei Hongsi watched Li Yunxiang not far away. A few yellow characters appeared before his eyes.
[Risk Warning!]
"Manager Meng, you really aren't a good teacher. The things you teach are dull and boring, yet you insist on showing off while teaching. Tell me, what kind of teacher teaches students like that? How could a teacher show off to a student?"
Li Yunxiang's eyebrows arched. She tilted her head to look at Meng Haolin. "Because your goal was never to teach. Your mind was always filled with other thoughts, right? It's just a pity that your skill at teaching people is as shoddy as your skill below the belt. Don't you really know that yourself?"
The muscles in Meng Haolin's cheeks twitched several times. He gritted his teeth and barked, "Why did you do it?!"
"You said I wasn't much older than your daughter, and you felt guilty. So I played along, making myself look older. But in reality, you actually wanted that feeling of guilt, didn't you?"
Li Yunxiang's voice became soft and seductive, her eyes sparkling with a youthful, agile charm. She stood up, pulled off the very old-fashioned hairband behind her head, and her long hair cascaded down like a black waterfall, instantly softening the contours of her face, neck, and shoulders.
Wei Hongsi knew Li Yunxiang's real age, so he wasn't too surprised by this.
But seeing her suddenly animated face and hearing her almost completely changed voice gave him a feeling that was both familiar and strange.
Thinking of the yellow warning text that had just appeared, he left his seat and moved a bit closer to Li Yunxiang.
At that moment, the attention of everyone in the conference room was focused on Li Yunxiang and Meng Haolin, so no one noticed his movement.
"See? Is this version of me more to your taste?" Li Yunxiang chuckled softly as she moved closer to Meng Haolin.
Meng Haolin involuntarily retreated two steps, his back bumping against the chair behind him. He gave a violent start and pushed Li Yunxiang away with his hand. "Get away from me!"
Li Yunxiang fell to the floor. She squinted her eyes at Meng Haolin, the sneer on her face sharp as a bayonet. "Manager Meng, you really are quite rude. Would you treat your own daughter like this too?"
"You... you're a devil!" Meng Haolin pointed at Li Yunxiang, his arm trembling uncontrollably.
Li Yunxiang giggled a few times, slowly stood up, and moved closer to Meng Haolin again. "It's you who has a devil in your heart."
Meng Haolin retreated another step. The chair behind him slid under the conference table with a harsh, grating sound. He lifted his head to look at the ceiling, avoiding Li Yunxiang's gaze. "Saying these things is useless. Do you really think you can escape today?"
"Isn't the one who's been running away all along... you?" Li Yunxiang's voice was full of allure. She took another step forward and suddenly swung her right hand towards Meng Haolin's neck.
Those with sharp eyes saw she was clutching a piece of broken porcelain in her hand, but they didn't even have time to shout a warning.
Meng Haolin was completely unprepared, utterly unaware that his current posture, head held high, made him look like a rooster awaiting slaughter.
Just as everyone thought Meng Haolin was about to be harmed, they suddenly saw Wei Hongsi dart behind Li Yunxiang, grab her hair, and yank her backward.
Li Yunxiang only felt a sudden tightness on the back of her scalp, a force pulling her head to tilt backward, but she still desperately stretched out her right arm to slash.
A tearing sound was heard. Meng Haolin's shirt front was slashed open. Only then did some people's gasps and warning shouts erupt.
Meng Haolin looked down, his face filled with disbelief.
Not just him. No one among the many people in the conference room had expected Li Yunxiang to suddenly erupt into violence.
Those present were mostly men, and they were company management. They completely didn't consider a female service staff member to pose any security threat.
Furthermore, in a place like a conference room, no one would even think about personal safety issues, their attention wholly focused on the discussion at hand.
It was precisely these ingrained perceptions that caused their brains to enter a brief state of shock upon seeing the scene just now, making their reactions half a beat slow.
In truth, Wei Hongsi was no exception. But because he had received the warning message earlier, his vigilance was much higher than others, which allowed him to pull Li Yunxiang back in time.
It was just that in the heat of the moment, he couldn't be too careful. The only place he could reach that was relatively safe to grab was Li Yunxiang's hair.
With her hair grabbed, Li Yunxiang, after slashing once across Meng Haolin's chest, turned around to stab at Wei Hongsi's arm. Wei Hongsi hurriedly let go and jumped backward to dodge.
Meng Haolin had already snapped out of it by now. Seeing Li Yunxiang's back turned to him, he immediately reached out to press down on Li Yunxiang's shoulder.
Unable to withstand the force, Li Yunxiang fell backward, the hand clutching the broken porcelain shard stabbing viciously behind her.
Meng Haolin let out a scream, pulling Li Yunxiang down with him as they both crashed to the floor.
There were two security guards in the conference room. Their reactions weren't slow, but because they were standing near the door, quite far from Meng Haolin, they couldn't stop Li Yunxiang in the first instant.
From the moment Li Yunxiang attacked to the moment she fell, it was only a matter of seconds. The two security guards had already reached the spot. One pressed down on her wrist, the other on her ankle, pinning her firmly to the ground.
Meng Haolin stood up, trembling. He saw a shard of broken porcelain sticking out of the front of his right thigh, one of the pieces from the shattered teacup on the floor. Looking down at his chest, beneath the torn shirt was a bloody gash over ten centimeters long, blood continuously flowing out.
"Heh heh..." Li Yunxiang struggled a few times but couldn't move. She let out a strange string of laughter, then suddenly her eyes rolled back, white foam spewed from her mouth, and her body began to convulse violently.
"Not good, she's having an epileptic fit!" said one of the security guards holding Li Yunxiang down.
"Turn her head to the side, or she might choke." A man said as he stepped forward, picked up the tray cloth that had fallen nearby, rolled it up, and wedged it into Li Yunxiang's mouth to prevent her from biting her tongue.
This man wasn't tall but was built solidly. He had been sitting opposite Wei Hongsi earlier. He was Qiao Yi, the director of the company's Logistics Department.
Ji Yongsheng walked over and asked, "How is the situation?"
Qiao Yi said, "It looks quite serious."
Ji Yongsheng didn't hesitate in the slightest. "Call an ambulance immediately."
Qiao Yi acknowledged and ran out to make the call.
Ji Yongsheng then asked Meng Haolin, "Manager Meng, how are you? Do you need to go to the hospital?"
"No need, I'm fine." Meng Haolin waved his hand, pulled out a nearby chair, and sat down on it.
The two wounds he suffered, one on his chest and one on his thigh, had stained his shirt and trousers with large patches of blood, looking quite frightening. In reality, they were only flesh wounds, and he hadn't lost much blood. It was just the throbbing pain coming in waves that caused cold sweat to break out on his forehead.
