Chapter 84: Epic Victory

Bradford’s previous answers indeed did not satisfy Gu Hang, but the last words he said certainly changed Gu Hang’s view of him.

That was exactly what he had originally hoped for.

Initially, Gu Hang expected old Hodgson to take on this job.

That old man, who had lived for a very long time, had even experienced the process of the first generation of governors establishing the Alliance on Fury Owl Planet. Although not a specialized channel merchant, longevity often equated to wealth.

But now it seemed that old Hodgson was already dead.

Although he had not yet entered the city to investigate, young Hodgson, also known as Lambert, could not wait any longer.

After the matters in the outer city were roughly resolved, he was eager to enter the city. Gu Hang assigned some elite Marines to him, allowing him to enter the city first to investigate.

The Hodgson family mansion was no longer under blockade; the city’s nobles had no reason to do so anymore.

However, upon smoothly returning home, Lambert found nothing of value.

After catching Bradford, this guy informed Gu Hang: old Hodgson was indeed dead, killed by Mondok. Bradford had been involved in the discussions; he and old Norris had tried to oppose it, thinking it was too extreme.

But they failed to oppose it. At that time, Mondok wielded much more power than they did, mainly due to his control over the military.

In the end, they were persuaded and tacitly allowed the plan to proceed. They let old Hodgson be assassinated, helped with the aftermath, and participated in dividing the Hodgson family’s wealth in Revival City.

In this matter, he was certainly guilty, being Lambert’s enemy for killing his kin; but strictly speaking, he was not the mastermind, more of an accomplice.

He certainly had to pay for his actions.

Even though his previous answer had pleased Gu Hang, it did not mean Gu Hang would let him go. His life might be temporarily spared, but his status as a prisoner could not be removed for now.

Only after making meritorious contributions might Gu Hang consider pardoning him.

Murdering the Alliance Council President was a grave crime; combined with the previous collusion with heretical cults involving Council Member Wohan, and Mondok’s treason for blocking Gu Hang outside the city… Gu Hang now had countless reasons to hang the nobles of Revival City.

It was just a matter of finding the right charges for each of them.

There was no such thing as being unable to find a crime; investigating a case requires evidence, but quelling a rebellion only needs a list.

Bradford’s first task in making amends was to help Gu Hang complete this list, and his own name would be on it.

Working with him on this task would be Lambert, who could not find his grandfather and was about to hear the bad news.

In his hatred, Lambert would probably not be merciful to these former compatriots; at the same time, he would not let his enemy Bradford have a good time.

But Gu Hang did not concern himself with this for now; he believed Lambert would do well.

Tomorrow was the day to enter the city. And on this night before entering the city, Gu Hang finally finished all his tasks and had the time to look at the rewards obtained from the last battle from the system.

[Epic Victory, gained 133 Grace Points]

[Lost 13, eliminated 1097, captured 7388]

[Governor’s Infantry Regiment: Losses 13, Eliminations 177]

[Sisterhood of the Holy Lily (allied): Losses 0, Eliminations 169]

[Phoenix Battalion (allied): Losses 0, Eliminations 757]

This battle actually brought him over a hundred Grace Points!

This was a higher yield than the ambush against the Original Owl Beast Sect and the subsequent eradication of most of the abscess creatures in the mutant forest.

The key was, he hadn’t anticipated it beforehand.

He had even thought that this battle might not be considered a war by the system, but more like an assassination or a surprise military action against a specific individual.

Moreover, even if it was judged as a war, the main combat results were achieved by the Star Warriors. The Battle Nuns only got serious after the heretical cultists emerged later on.

But regardless of who fought, neither of these groups were Gu Hang’s subordinates. Would the system give him credit for their achievements?

The reality was, it wouldn’t, but the value was enormous.

Although Gu Hang didn’t get points for the kills made by the Star Warriors and Battle Nuns, their actions undoubtedly crushed the Alliance forces.

Besides the fleeing enemies, most of the remaining ones surrendered, and a small number of resisters were killed.

Those top warriors certainly didn’t have time to take prisoners.

This task fell to Gu Hang’s Infantry Regiment. The regiment’s 13 casualties and 177 kills were made during this time. And the 7,300 prisoners were counted as captured by the Infantry Regiment.

Thus, there were points.

Although the main battle wasn’t fought by Gu Hang’s subordinates, resulting in a low coefficient for Grace Points, the minimal losses and significant results, rated as an epic victory, added back some of the coefficient.

Moreover, the ability to capture so many people was influenced not only by the invincible performance of the warriors but also by Gu Hang’s presence as Governor and the morale blow to the soldiers from Mondok’s execution.

Multiple factors combined to create these 133 Grace Points.

A pleasant surprise indeed.

So far, he had 135 Grace Points, a substantial amount. However, he hadn’t yet decided how to use them.

Should he use the Troop Cards system to transform the over 7,000 captured soldiers? But this had to wait until their loyalty could be ensured, and the political commissars he inserted could exert their influence.

Otherwise, if they were trained and strengthened, only to rebel, it would be troublesome.

The Technology system also needed to be drawn from. Drawing out several powerful items was crucial for territorial development, but there was no rush currently.

Gu Hang needed to think about how to use these Grace Points.

Dawn broke, and Gu Hang entered the city.

There were no scenes of people lining the streets to welcome him with food and drink.

The people in the inner city had heard the sounds of battle outside a few days ago and learned from various rumors that the Governor was coming. The city’s four gates had also been sealed by the Governor…

Although it had only been a few days, the city’s supplies were still sufficient, and no one was starving yet. However, these inner-city people hadn’t heard much about the Governor’s mercy and good governance.

On the contrary, they remembered the disastrous deeds of past governors more vividly.

They were hesitant, suspicious, and distrustful of Gu Hang’s arrival.

At this moment, they all hid in their homes, shutting their doors and windows, only peeking through the gaps at the Star Warriors, Battle Nuns, and passing troops on the main road.

Gu Hang felt the countless gazes from both sides of the street, but he didn’t care.

He led his people straight to the Alliance Council Hall in the city center.
