Chapter 15: Fierce Battle

"Fire essence, aid me!"

Zhang Qinglang separated a wisp of flame from the high-pressure fireball and channeled it into himself.

He finally freed himself from stiffness and sluggishness, simultaneously controlling the fireball to shoot directly at Infinite Summer.

"Using this move again, little Taoist? Is this the only trick you know?"

Infinite Summer's figure flickered as he charged forward to meet the attack.

The purple armor covering his body, infused with energy, forcefully collided with the fireball. Although it blocked the attack, the purple armor instantly shattered into pieces, left in tatters.

It actually broke after just one hit.

Wu Zhong's expression changed. Wasn't it said that this Taoist wasn't a match for him? Why did it seem like he was nearly taken down in a single strike?

However, Infinite Summer's expression remained unchanged as purple light suddenly reshaped the menacing armor.

"Truly worthy of being a true disciple of Dragon Tiger Mountain. Your polymorphic power, while immensely powerful, unfortunately your source energy is too limited."

Infinite Summer opened his mouth and actually spat out a USB drive from within.

Zhang Qinglang's pupils contracted sharply: "What! Hidden in your stomach? How could we not have detected... How much source energy do you have?"

Infinite Summer held the USB drive in his mouth and said: "Thirty thousand bits..."

"Damn!" Zhang Qinglang urgently tried to remove his Taoist robe: "Ancestral Master, assist..."

"Boom boom boom!" Multiple turrets rose behind Infinite Summer, brimming with purple energy streams, all pouring forth at once!

Fierce bombardment ensued, with purple smoke spreading everywhere.

Some of the energy projectiles were deflected by the fire essence, yet still left terrifying broken holes in the walls.

Meanwhile, Zhang Qinglang was blasted until he vomited blood, flying backward while emitting scorched smoke.

Clearly, some trump card of his had been interrupted.

And the only thing that could be instantly activated was...

"Fire essence!"

"Buzz buzz buzz!" Another collision between fireball and purple armor.

Infinite Summer's purple armor was shattered by the attack, his hair scorched, his body burned with wounds oozing pus and blood.

Yet he still appeared confident of victory, as the purple armor would automatically repair itself and heal his injuries.

In contrast, Zhang Qinglang's expression was extremely grim.

The two exchanged blows back and forth, fighting fiercely in the corridor at incredible speed, making Wu Zhong's eyes blur just watching.

All he could see was a ball of firelight and a ball of purple light, shining upon each other, clashing and bombarding wildly.

Wu Zhong retreated step by step, hiding far away, yet he could still feel the intense wind pressure and waves of heat rushing toward him.

The walls on both sides of the battle area were dented, cracked, and covered with scars.

However, after a fierce exchange, Zhang Qinglang suddenly weakened.

The ball of firelight he controlled had disappeared.

In contrast, Infinite Summer still stood tall in his majestic purple armor, with continuous staying power.

"That's it? It seems you're not exactly wealthy either. Why play with polymorphic power if you're broke? Doesn't the Celestial Master's Residence pay your salary?"

Infinite Summer flashed over, grabbed Zhang Qinglang by the throat, and captured him alive!

Wu Zhong watched in stunned disbelief.

This miraculous energy, something akin to magic, was called polymorphic power?

Did cultivation for immortality truly exist in this world, or perhaps some kind of cultivation system?

But what did it have to do with money? Were poor people not worthy of cultivation? And what did thirty thousand bits mean?

With his throat gripped, Zhang Qinglang struggled to say: "If only my gun case were here, how could I let you be so arrogant..."

He regretted not bringing his gun, otherwise he wouldn't have been defeated so quickly.

After all, guns could be fired instantly.

In fact, normally when the alarm sounded, large reinforcements would quickly arrive to support, so he had been careless.

He never expected that his teammates couldn't get in, all blocked outside the large security gate at B12.

"Bang bang bang!"

From the far end of the corridor, the heavy security gate continuously emitted dull thuds.

Clearly, reinforcements had already arrived, but they couldn't open the door.

Now those outside were getting anxious, frantically bombarding the door.

Unfortunately, this was their own security gate, with extremely high safety standards that made it difficult to break open easily. Ironically, they had ended up blocking their own people outside.

Seeing the battle had ended, Wu Zhong shouted: "Brother Xia, I closed the security gate outside earlier, so Lu Guangqi and the others won't be able to provide support temporarily."

Zhang Qinglang said with difficulty: "So you really are in cahoots!"

"But how could your identity investigation show no problems? Who forged your past records for you?"

He glared angrily at Wu Zhong, unable to understand how this guy's background could be so clean.

Wu Zhong didn't explain, thinking to himself: Of course! He genuinely didn't know Infinite Summer before, and had no connection with the disaster world either.

He was just a regular ordinary person, a pure wage worker - if they could find problems with that, it would be strange.

"Thump!"

The purple energy in Infinite Summer's hand vibrated, and Zhang Qinglang immediately went limp throughout his body, his head drooping.

Wu Zhong was shocked: "Why kill him? Wouldn't... wouldn't taking him hostage be better?"

Infinite Summer said calmly: "He's just unconscious..."

Wu Zhong secretly breathed a sigh of relief. On one hand, Zhang Qinglang had actually been quite good to him; on the other hand, he was worried that Infinite Summer was truly a cold-blooded killer, which would put him in danger later too.

"Brother Xia, just take him hostage, let's hurry and leave this place first."

Infinite Summer tossed the unconscious Zhang Qinglang aside and shook his head: "Watch less TV drama. Once you join the military, you're prepared to sacrifice. Taking hostages is useless."

"Moreover, you're too weak. Even without you holding me back, if I were alone, I still couldn't fight my way out of here."

"Ah?"

Hearing this, Wu Zhong was directly dumbfounded.

"What did you say? Didn't you say you could leave whenever you wanted? Why are you saying now that you can't fight your way out?"

Infinite Summer chuckled lightly: "Not being able to win in combat doesn't mean I can't escape..."

"In terms of fighting ability, I'm no match for Lu Guangqi. That guy is too fierce, extraordinary."

"In fact, I willingly stayed in this prison to force him to remain here guarding me, wasting his time, to reduce pressure on my several accomplices' operations elsewhere."

Wu Zhong was astonished, never expecting that everyone's speculation about Infinite Summer had been completely wrong.

He wasn't waiting for his teammates to rescue him.

On the contrary, he deliberately got himself trapped to tie down Captain Lu, this powerful combatant, thereby helping his teammates.

"Then what about you? You said you could leave." Wu Zhong began to sweat.

Infinite Summer remained very calm: "If I were alone, leaving would be a matter of a single thought."

"But I didn't expect to have you as an unexpected surprise... And if I want to take you with me, it becomes troublesome."

"Let's give it a try anyway."

Wu Zhong had nothing to say. Whether he could leave depended entirely on this person.

And it turned out that while this person could leave, it was only limited to himself alone. Taking Wu Zhong along would multiply the difficulty.

For now, the only plan was to trust to fate and do their best.

If they truly couldn't leave, there was nothing he could do about it.

"Let's go! We'll leave through Containment Room 013. The live creature transport pipe there can be climbed to get out."

Infinite Summer abandoned Zhang Qinglang and took Wu Zhong fleeing in the opposite direction, diving deeper into Zone B.

This person seemed very familiar with this base, leading him through numerous twists and turns until they found a weak section of wall.

After several powerful punches, the wall broke open, and they crossed into somewhere in Zone C.

After more winding paths, the security gates along the way were all blasted open by him one by one, with alarms sounding everywhere and red lights flashing.

Wu Zhong followed him running, almost getting dizzy from all the turning.

Suddenly Infinite Summer said: "This place is full of garrison troops. I can't personally take you any further."

"Only if I attract these people's attention will you possibly escape."

Wu Zhong frowned: "Without you leading the way, Brother Xia, I don't know how to get out."

Infinite Summer smiled and said to the side: "Show yourself, Gizzard."

Wu Zhong was baffled, but suddenly felt a chill coming over him.

Turning to look, he saw a ghostly figure suddenly flicker into appearance in the air.

A real ghost, or rather a specter!

An incorporeal body, appearing as someone wearing a blood-stained shirt with a deathly pale face.

A knife was still stuck in its chest, looking exactly like someone who had died a tragic death.

And this specter was different from the cloud and mist ghosts and gods encountered before.

This one truly had no physical form!

This specter seemed to have been present the entire time - if it hadn't revealed itself voluntarily, Wu Zhong wouldn't have been able to see it!

"Is this a real specter?"

Infinite Summer said calmly: "Gizzard is more familiar with this place than I am. He will guide you."

"His name is Gizzard? Why such a strange name?" Wu Zhong saw the specter float behind him and then simply ride on his shoulders, making him somewhat creeped out.

Infinite Summer said: "I like eating chicken gizzards, so I casually gave him that name."

"..." Wu Zhong was speechless. Damn, so capricious.

Infinite Summer continued: "However, he cannot leave me for more than a thousand meters. So after you get out, whether you can ultimately escape depends entirely on you."

"And I will stay behind to cover your retreat, drawing all attention."

Wu Zhong felt somewhat moved: "Brother Xia, won't you be in danger covering our retreat? If you can't leave because of this, then even if I escape, I won't be able to hide for long!"

"This is an official department - if they come looking for me, I truly have nowhere to hide!"

Infinite Summer's expression was cold and proud: "I will definitely be able to leave!"

"Well, let's just arrange a meeting place."

"Do you know Hejia Mountain?"

Wu Zhong was taken aback. This was the cemetery mountain in the suburbs of Xunyang City.

The cemetery, funeral parlor, and crematorium were all located there.

"Of course I know. What about it?"

Infinite Summer said: "After you escape, go to the funeral parlor at Hejia Mountain and find a family holding a wake. The deceased is named Sun Min."

"She died at First Hospital yesterday at noon. Normally the body should remain for three days, so she'll still be there today and tomorrow. Just wait for me in the mourning hall."

Wu Zhong was bewildered. Go find a dead person? Wait for him in someone's mourning hall?

This guy really knew how to pick a place.

Of all the places to meet, he chose a funeral parlor?

But to be fair, that place was indeed concealed. Other than the deceased's family and friends, who would go there?

And that Sun Min - could she be Infinite Summer's teammate? Were there also his companions among her family members?

So that place was actually a small stronghold for Infinite Summer and his accomplices?

"Um..." Wu Zhong was about to ask for more details.

Suddenly a team of people wearing firefighting suits arrived. They were carrying large metal devices that looked like generators, appearing very heavy.

"Rat-a-tat-tat!"

When they saw the two, without hesitation, they instantly opened fire!

Bullets flew mercilessly, a barrage attacking.

This wasn't too bad - Infinite Summer, clad in purple armor, spread his wing-like extensions and stood at the forefront, blocking all the bullets with clinking sounds.

However, when he saw that these people were all carrying generator equipment, his expression turned grim: "This is bad."

"Brother Xia, you should be able to handle these six people, right?" Wu Zhong didn't understand.

In his view, Infinite Summer's combat power, even if not matching Lu Guangqi's, should be more than enough to deal with others.

He had even fantasized about this big brother coolly fighting his way out while bringing him along.

But he never expected that upon seeing six people, Infinite Summer would look so serious, as if his life depended on it.

Infinite Summer said cautiously: "In the disaster world, underestimating anyone is asking for death."

"These six people - I haven't fought them before, I'm not familiar with them."

"Additionally, the sturdiness of their air shield trait depends on the electrical energy their bodies carry. This is their home ground, and each of them is carrying a high-energy generator."

"Their air shields will be hundreds of times stronger than when they only carry batteries on normal days!"

One thing Wu Zhong appreciated most about Infinite Summer was that when he asked something, he would actually answer.

Hearing this now, Wu Zhong felt his scalp tingle.

What? The air shield is linked to the electrical energy their bodies carry? These people normally carry batteries on them?

This superpower can't be used without electricity?

Well, after hearing about so many strange abilities, Wu Zhong had gotten used to it.

But now these six people were carrying specially made generators, making their air shields hundreds of times stronger than normal - this was very bad.

Hundreds of times! These six people were practically equivalent to an army!
