Chapter 100: Meeting the Teacher |
Dean sensed the change in the surrounding atmosphere; the situation seemed to be developing in an unfavorable direction.
He knew that either he had to step aside immediately, or he needed to present credible proof of identity, otherwise unnecessary conflict would inevitably break out.
But he had no suitable identification on him at all!
His gaze quickly swept across the surrounding crowd as he urgently thought of a way to resolve the situation.
When he noticed many people in the crowd wearing badges of the Artisans’ Association, his eyes lit up and he hurriedly said:
“Sir, my teacher is a newly appointed elder of the Artisans’ Association. The senior members of the Artisans’ Association can all testify for me. Could you perhaps make an exception?”
Dean maintained a humble posture, speaking sincerely.
Hearing this, the adventurer indeed paused his hand before it reached the sword hilt, and a trace of hesitation flashed across his face.
This temporary medical area had originally belonged to the Artisans’ Association and was used to store various construction and commercial materials.
If the young man before him truly was the disciple of an elder from the Artisans’ Association, then he would have to show some respect.
However, he did not completely lower his guard. Narrowing his eyes, he carefully examined Dean. Before making a decision, he still wanted to clarify the matter:
“Kid, since you’re an elder’s disciple of the Artisans’ Association… why don’t you have the Association’s badge? You aren’t trying to trick me, are you?”
“My teacher only became an elder of the Association yesterday. I myself haven’t registered with the Artisans’ Association yet. But the Association’s upper management should all recognize me.”
Dean quickly explained his situation.
Seeing Dean’s calm expression, which did not appear to be fake, the adventurer found himself unable to make a judgment for the moment.
However, the increasingly crowded surroundings irritated him. Suddenly turning around, he let out a low roar toward the gathered crowd, infused with powerful aura pressure:
“What are you all looking at?! Go do what you’re supposed to do! Don’t block the road!”
The crowd was instantly intimidated by the roar filled with powerful spiritual energy and scattered in all directions, no longer daring to look over. Ordinary people did not even dare complain in front of professionals.
“Are there any members of the Artisans’ Association here? Go find your superior and see if anyone recognizes this kid!”
Immediately, one member of the Artisans’ Association reacted and hurried into the warehouse.
Only then did the adventurer turn back toward Dean, his tone still stern:
“You’d better be telling the truth. Otherwise, if you waste my time, you’ll pay a painful price!”
Then he waved toward the two volunteers carrying the stretcher.
“For now, move him to the corner. Don’t block the road.”
“Yes, sir.”
Holding Cab in his arms, Dean stood in the corner and sincerely asked once more:
“Sir, may I take a look now?”
The adventurer impatiently waved his hand.
“Sir, thank you for your understanding.”
Dean bowed in thanks. He bent down and gently placed Cab on the ground before kneeling beside the boy’s cold body. Softly placing his palm against the boy’s forehead, he slowly extended his spiritual power into the other party’s body, carefully examining him.
However, the moment his spiritual energy entered the body, it rapidly dissipated like a mud ox entering the sea. There was not the slightest trace of vitality left; instead, his energy was swiftly corroded and consumed by the yin-cold power within the body.
Cab, who had recovered somewhat and recognized Dean, stared at every expression on Dean’s face with hopeful eyes, wishing to see proof that his brother was still alive.
But as time passed, he also understood the result from Dean’s serious and ultimately helpless expression.
A moment later, Dean silently withdrew his hand and embraced Cab.
Cab’s eyes completely dimmed, and he could not even cry out anymore.
Perhaps this would make the child feel a little better.
At that moment, hurried footsteps sounded from the distance.
Both Dean and the adventurer turned toward the sound simultaneously.
When Supervisor Fuke heard from his subordinate that a young man claiming to be the disciple of a newly appointed elder had appeared, he immediately thought of the young man who had been beside Master Ryan.
Without hesitation, he rushed toward the medical area together with the Association member who had come to report the matter.
He recognized Dean’s figure from afar at once.
That was indeed Master Ryan’s disciple!
“Yes! Yes!”
Fuke was panting heavily as he repeatedly nodded politely toward the adventurer, a courteous smile on his face.
“My Lord Adventurer, this little brother Dean is indeed the newly accepted disciple of Master Ryan. That is absolutely true. We deeply apologize for the trouble caused earlier. Please allow me to handle matters here. Truly, thank you for your hard work!”
After confirming Dean’s identity, the adventurer’s expression softened slightly as he nodded.
“Since it was a misunderstanding, forget it. I’ll leave him to you. Watch this child carefully and don’t let him rush in and cause trouble again.”
After speaking, he did not linger and turned around to continue patrolling and maintaining order.
“Of course! Of course!”
Fuke repeatedly agreed. After watching the adventurer leave, he turned toward Dean, his face carrying a trace of confusion.
“Little Brother Dean, why did you come alone? Wasn’t Master Ryan with you?”
Fuke was extremely curious. The other party was obviously highly valued by Master Ryan, and the situation in Coral Thorn City had still been rather chaotic at the time. Yet Master Ryan had actually allowed him to come out alone.
Dean opened his mouth, momentarily unsure of what to say.
Clearly, the other party had no idea that the Holy Knight inside treating patients was his teacher.
But he quickly thought of a good excuse!
“Teacher told me to come here and look for a Holy Knight Lord. He said that once he saw me, he would naturally understand what had happened. After giving those instructions, Teacher left. I’m not entirely sure of Teacher’s intentions either, so I could only come over and take a look first.”
Supervisor Fuke was visibly stunned and looked extremely shocked.
The great Master Ryan knew that a Holy Knight was hidden here?
But why hadn’t he come personally?
Still completely confused, he looked toward Cab in Dean’s arms.
“Who is this child?”
Dean quickly explained Cab’s situation.
After listening, sympathy appeared on Fuke’s face. He sighed softly before looking toward the boy on the stretcher and asking in a low voice:
“And this boy?”
Dean fell silent for a moment, feeling Cab’s body instantly tense in his arms. Inwardly, he silently said “I’m sorry”.
“Let’s follow the arrangements of the Holy Knight Lord.”
The moment he said those words, he clearly felt the little fellow in his arms trembling, as though desperately suppressing himself. Dean held him tighter and subconsciously began gently stroking the top of Cab’s head.
That action slowly soothed Cab and calmed him down.
It was something his brother often did for him, and it was also the thing that made him feel safest.
Cab buried his face deeply into Dean’s clothes as the suppressed sobbing he had held back for so long finally quietly escaped.
Seeing this, Fuke asked no further questions. He merely glanced toward the Association members behind him, signaling them to quietly carry the body away.
“Come on, Little Brother Dean. I’ll take you inside.”
As Supervisor Fuke spoke, he led Dean toward the largest warehouse that had been converted into a medical area.
Holding Cab, whose emotions had calmed somewhat but who was still quietly sobbing, Dean followed behind Fuke.
A moment later, as soon as Dean stepped through the warehouse doors, he immediately saw O’Brien using Holy Light to dispel the death energy from the patients.
Warmth surged through Dean’s heart as he carried Cab and quickly walked toward his teacher.
