Chapter 1017: Flying Away |
The pillar rammed the hilt of its hammer into the ground and quickly scurried under it.
BOOOM!
The ball of misty lightning arrived and washed over the gigantic hammer, traveling into the ground. The remaining lightning continued like a stream of water, moving past the hammer and the pillar.
The Demon changed its tactics and launched another ball, but this time, it diagonally aimed towards the ground. The lightning would continue moving on the ground, avoiding the hammer.
In response, the pillar pushed the hammer over and crouched behind the massive hammerhead. The lightning washed over the hammer, missing the pillar behind it.
If the hammer were just made of Minor Metal, the pillar would still be hit by some stray lightning bolts, which would cause devastating injuries. However, the hammer was made of Gravity Metal, and its gravitational properties did wonders when it came to absorbing Minor Lightning.
If the Demon used Gravity Lightning, the pillar would be helpless. However, if the Demon could do that, it wouldn't be in a Law Well for Gravity Lightning to begin with.
Seeing how its offense had failed yet again, the Demon gathered its Energy and launched two balls at the same time, aimed in opposite directions. One would come from the left, while the other would come from the right.
CRKCRKCRK!
The lightning washed over the surface, eventually hitting the hammerhead. Of course, the lightning also moved through the ground itself. Some of these lightning bolts hit the pillar, but the ground and the gravitational properties of the hammer reduced their power so much that the pillar only lost 10% of its Biological Energy.
When the lightning vanished, the hammer was carried to the surface again, and the pillar assumed its old position.
The Demon launched a barrage of mixed attacks, but one way or another, the pillar managed to deal with them.
The Demon became desperate. Divine Beasts fled from battle extremely rarely. Yet, it was also running out of ideas. Nothing worked.
So, it decided to come closer, reducing the distance to 200 kilometers.
It continued launching its barrage of attacks, and this time, the pillar had obvious difficulties when it came to dealing with them. Its movements became more hasty and more chaotic.
Yet, the pillar was still regenerating more Biological Energy than it was using.
After more barrages, the Demon got even closer, reducing the distance to 150 kilometers. The pillar was ten kilometers long. As long as the Demon didn't enter that range, the pillar wouldn't be able to hit it.
The Demon continued attacking, but this time, the pillar directly burrowed into the ground. The area attacks were blocked by the hammer. However, the focused attacks created long tunnels of ash as they burrowed into the ground, moving past the hammerhead.
Underground, the pillar swung back and forth, using the hammer as a stable hold.
The focused attacks barely missed the pillar every time, while the area attacks only injured it slightly.
After some time, the Demon stopped attacking to survey the situation.
At that moment, the hammerhead wiggled back and forth a bit on the surface.
For some reason, the Demon felt this act to be insulting.
Realizing that it needed to get closer, the Demon flew-
BOOOOOM!
The hammer and the pillar suddenly shot out of the ground at impressive speeds. On the pillar's base, a violent flame propelled it forward like a missile.
The Demon hadn't expected such an attack, but it was still faster than the pillar. It angled its body and moved to the side.
At that moment, the pillar's flesh and blood vanished, replaced with Elemental Energies. Simultaneously, the pillar compressed like a spring, and the hammer angled to the side.
BANG!
The pillar uncoiled, releasing all of its accumulated power. In a violent reversal, the pillar suddenly shot downwards instead of upwards.
BOOOOOOOOM!
At the same time, an apocalyptic explosion of Elemental Energies occurred below the hammerhead. The physical power of the pillar and the explosion accelerated the hammer to incredible speeds.
The Demon evaded to the side, but then it noticed that the hammer was already flying towards the spot it had planned to evade to. It tried to adapt yet again, but...
Time was up.
BANG!
An explosion of blood, gore, and feathers occurred on the top of the hammerhead as it shot through the Demon like a bullet shooting through a fly.
BANG!
The pillar fell to the ground, weak and helpless. Just like before, only its bones remained.
Meanwhile, the hammer kept flying towards the sky, leaving everyone's perception.
The watching Demons were once again shocked by the display. The weak pillar had killed another Demon!
This time, the pillar's body regenerated much quicker, but before it could stand up again, fire appeared on its base while Wind Energy gathered around it.
The pillar took to the sky and flew away.
The Demons weren't sure why the pillar was suddenly leaving, but they also didn't care. Since it was no longer here, it also couldn't be a threat anymore.
Far away, the pillar changed its trajectory several times as it kept flying into the distance.
Over two minutes passed.
At some point, a burning object appeared above the pillar.
It was the hammer! Its upward momentum had been used up, and now, it was falling towards the ground.
As the hammer approached, the pillar noticed some poultry on its head, which had been cooked to a state that couldn't be called well done anymore. It was already cooked to congratulations.
Naturally, that was the dead Demon.
The pillar accelerated downward, and the hammer eventually caught up with it.
The pillar extended its tip to the hammer and wrapped around its hilt.
Like a meteor, the pillar and the hammer continued falling towards the ground until...
BOOOOM!
The surroundings exploded as the hammer hit the ground like a meteor. The pillar received several injuries, but they were quickly healed by its Biological Energy.
Finally, the pillar grabbed the hammer, harvested the remains of the corpse, repositioned itself, and scurried out of the crater.
Since Demons didn't have Spirits, they also didn't have Soul Spaces. This meant that this was the only hammer the pillar owned. If it lost that hammer, it would be in a lot of trouble. Just the act of throwing it was already a tremendous risk since it was quite helpless in that state.
Luckily, the pillar seemed to be very good at avoiding all the gatherings of Crusher Demons on its journey.
Over an hour later, the Demons around the Gravity Lightning Law Well noticed something.
The pillar.
The pillar.
It was back.
Their instincts still told them that the pillar was a weak liability.
Yet, there was an even stronger part of their instincts that told them one thing.
"Fighting this thing is not worth it."
