Chapter 1169: White Tiger, Sky-Splitter |
The Soul Capturer Nymph Emperor's sea of consciousness shattered rapidly under the rampage of the now-free souls. Cracks spread, widening with each impact. More and more spirits crashed in, and even though his aura was still at the peak of the Emperor level, at this moment, it no longer mattered.
Blood leaked from his seven orifices as his aura waned. His body twisted in midair, as though something inside him sought to burst free. Finally, his movement paused for a split second, and in that split second, his head simply burst apart. The forces generated by the collapse of his sea of consciousness caused it to explode.
The sky turned crimson once more, blood rain falling in torrents. The many souls that had shattered his sea of consciousness bathed in Tang San's divine light, gradually dissipating. As they vanished, each gave Tang San a final bow.
Below, the Emperors' faces grew darker still—not only because Soul Capturer had fallen, but also because his monstrous evil left them filled with revulsion. None could feel a single shred of sympathy. Yet, at the same time, the weight of what was going on pressed heavier on every heart. Three already. This was the third Emperor to die today.
Becoming an Emperor required seizing one of the Emperor seats. But now… there seemed far too many such thrones lying vacant. Today, three Emperors had fallen in a row, and counting the Tenebrous Demon Emperor and the Adamant Nymph Emperor, five deaths were now tied to this human. Without question, this was the greatest calamity the Ancestral Court had ever seen. And it was not yet over.
Tang San turned his gaze downward, toward the demons' side. "White Tiger Demon Emperor, please step forward."
Yes, it was his turn.
The White Tiger Demon Emperor looked at Tang San with a conflicted gaze, then rose into the sky to stand before him. His wings unfurled, and instantly his killing intent swept outward, blanketing Tang San and himself within an endless domain of slaughter.
Tang San could not help but admire it. "Grandfather-in-law, your killing intent is truly terrifying."
"How many must you kill before it ends?" the White Tiger Demon Emperor asked in a low voice.
"Once I've killed those who deserve it, it will end. Those I've killed either stood against humanity, or were abominations like the Soul Capturer. Just now… Well, he died by his own hand, not because I wanted him dead in particular."
The White Tiger Demon Emperor was silent.
Tang San did not press him. He knew this was a moment of grief; for one Emperor to fall was a blow to them all.
At last, the White Tiger Demon Emperor sighed deeply. "Tang San, when you first spoke of taking me away from this plane, I did not truly believe you. Yet the things you did afterward astonished me, and for the sake of Little Mei, I chose to place my trust in you. I never imagined that in so short a time, you would bring such upheaval. Very well. Since you insist on this method, I must face you with all my strength. Tell me: Are you confident?"
Tang San smiled. "I am. Do not worry, Grandfather."
The White Tiger Demon Emperor said gravely, "Whatever happens, you must not drag Little Mei down with you. Undying will not take my stance toward you; he has many other things to be concerned about. He will fight you seriously together with Parasol, and so will Sunborne and Earthshade. Those will be your greatest challenges. You must be cautious."
"I understand. Please, go ahead." Tang San gestured respectfully.
The White Tiger Demon Emperor's eyes narrowed, and his aura erupted. He let out a titanic roar; his killing intent blazed, and he lunged at Tang San.
He did not use any divine artifacts. The rules required Emperors to fight with all their might, and for that reason, they did not forbid external aid. Yet the White Tiger Demon Emperor chose to rely solely on himself. His assault looked fierce, and indeed he used his full strength… but his will to fight was not quite there. And for his bloodline power, the will to fight was practically all that mattered.
This fight lasted ten full minutes, far longer than the others. At last, when Tang San's fist struck him back to the ground, the White Tiger Demon Emperor spat out a mouthful of blood.
"I concede!"
The Sky-Splitting Demon Emperor's gaze grew cold. "You held back. You didn't go at him with intent to kill, and you gave him time to recover."
The White Tiger met his stare with equal chill. These two were close in rank, but they had never been harmonious.
"If you can do better, then go," he retorted, then sat cross-legged where he landed, closing his eyes to heal.
Tang San hovered above, and his gaze fell on the Sky-Splitting Demon Emperor.
"By order, it's your turn. You accused him of slacking off, so let's see how you fare against me."
On the nymphs' side, the Parasol Tree Nymph Emperor was already paired with the Undying Demon Emperor, who outranked the Sky-Splitting Demon Emperor. Thus, although a demon had just fought, the next opponent was still from their side.
The Sky-Splitting Demon Emperor snorted. "Whelp, today you'll die with no grave."
He did not rise into the air at once. Instead, his body swelled massively, golden fur bristling through his skin, shredding his clothes. His frame grew titanic, his aura terrifying.
Dragon, phoenix, and behemoth—the three greatest races of demons. And of the Behemoths, he alone was Emperor. Sky-Splitter, the strongest of his race, truly deserved the title of "invincible titan of the land."
A moment later, his body reached a full five hundred meters in size. His life force boiled so fiercely that even the blood rain in the sky evaporated into mist around him; his bloodline power was like a roaring volcano.
Only then did he ascend, his titanic form utterly dwarfing Tang San in an instant. His massive arms extended and his claws elongated like blades. Any small gesture caused them to tear through space itself!
"So strong…" Tang San could not help but marvel.
The Soul Capturer had been terrifying in terms of divine consciousness. This one, though somewhat average in that respect, possessed such overwhelming physical power that no dragon of this age could match it.
With a physique this vigorous, even the Soul Capturer's bound souls might not have broken through his defenses. To control such a being would be near impossible. This was the Behemoth clan's essence: attack and defense as one, something that allowed them to roam the land unchallenged.
No wonder the Solstice Empire had always been suppressed by the Empyrean Dominion. Even without the Crystal Demon Emperor, with the Celestial Fox, Undying, and Sky-Splitting Demon Emperors, they could still dominate.
"Come here, boy!" the Sky-Splitting Demon Emperor roared. In that instant, his body erupted with golden-red blood mist that filled the air. His right hand lashed out like lightning, his claws tearing through the void toward Tang San.
