Chapter 1122: Arrival and Proposal |
This time, Tang San didn’t use teleportation to leave; instead, he chose to fly. The more control he gained over everything, the more cautious he became.
The Celestial Fox Demon Emperor was an opponent he absolutely could not take lightly. Tang San would never be careless when facing someone like that. Although he had no issue protecting himself now, the situation was too complex. He couldn’t afford to show all his cards until the very last moment.
His journey back went smoothly, just as he had foreseen using the Discerning Eye of Heaven. By the time he returned to Skytree City, Jin Miaosen had already prepared the betrothal gifts. These included two Nymph Kings and ten ninth-order members of the Blue Gold Tree clan to accompany him. Sending too many Nymph King elders would be too conspicuous and might compromise the premise of the clan’s neutrality, but a bunch of ninth-order people wouldn’t draw too much attention. After all, this was a political marriage. Some measure of favoritism was understandable.
Eager to reunite with Mei Gongzi, Tang San didn't rest upon returning to Skytree City. He immediately departed with the gifts, riding a Pegasus carriage eastward.
This was a formal marriage proposal, and teleportation was not appropriate. It had to be grand and ceremonial, so that every person with some status would witness it. This wasn’t just a union between two people—it was a marriage that bridged the east and west, one of the most significant in the history of the Ancestral Court, and it had to be seen by all.
Passing by the Ancestral Court, Tang San didn’t stop to rest. He flew right past it, pushing forward at full speed.
Each night, during their rest stops, he would secretly teleport to Kali City to meet with Mei Gongzi, share some tender moments, and then return to the caravan.
The Daemon Continent was tremendously vast. Even with nearly non-stop flight using Pegasi, it took over half a month before they finally saw the towering walls of Kali City in the distance.
The Pegasus caravan descended from the sky, gliding slowly toward the ground.
Kali City had long since made preparations. Outside the gates, Luo Qingzhu stood with all the elders of the Peacock Demon clan.
The Pegasus carriages landed in formation just outside the city. The Peacock Demon clan’s guards were already stationed there, and crowds of curious onlookers eagerly awaited. Everyone wanted to see just what kind of outstanding young man was worthy of being their beloved City Lord’s husband.
A red carpet stretched from the city gates outward. The weather today was extraordinarily fine, and even if it hadn’t been, a little bit of space manipulation would have ensured a clear sky for such an auspicious occasion.
The lead Pegasus carriage stopped at an appropriate distance on the road that led through the main gate. Tang San stepped down with the accompanying elders, while Luo Qingzhu and the Peacock clan elders advanced to meet them.
“Greetings, Crown Prince,” Luo Qingzhu said, bowing slightly to Tang San. The manner in which she greeted him showed all the courtesy due to someone of a higher rank, which was only appropriate; Tang San’s status placed him just beneath the Emperors themselves.
Tang San immediately returned the bow. “Greetings, Grand Elder.”
The manner in which he bowed showed the deference a junior ought to show a senior, which meant Luo Qingzhu was gaining a lot of face from this interaction.
She smiled gently and gestured for him to proceed. The elders on both sides stepped aside to clear the path.
Tang San walked shoulder to shoulder with her. Though she initially walked half a step behind him, he subtly slowed his pace to let her catch up. His etiquette was impeccable, showing humility and respect.
Even though she knew who he truly was, Luo Qingzhu’s smile grew warmer at this subtle gesture. This young man sure knew how to treat his seniors.
Once they entered the city, a luxurious carriage prepared by the Peacock Demon clan awaited.
Tang San and Luo Qingzhu boarded the largest carriage, while the others found their places and followed behind toward the city lord’s mansion.
As the one being proposed to, Mei Gongzi, of course, could not show herself just yet. She awaited him within her estate.
Along the streets of Kali City, a grand celebration was already underway. Mei Gongzi had declared three days of festivities in honor of the proposal. To the city denizens and the people in the surrounding towns, this was undoubtedly the most momentous event in recent memory. Their City Lord was getting married—and to a Crown Prince, no less. It meant prosperity and growth for Kali City, and a new golden age for the Peacock Demon clan. It was a matter of utmost importance to everyone here.
Despite being someone who had lived two lives and once held the title of God King, Tang San couldn’t help but feel nervous and excited as he entered Kali City. His usual calm and calculated demeanor vanished.
Sitting beside him in the carriage, Luo Qingzhu could clearly sense his nervousness. He remained mostly silent, but the excitement in his eyes was undeniable.
She didn’t disturb him. She knew full well the hardships this pair of lovers had endured to reach this point. Even just the fact that Tang San was human had brought countless obstacles. And yet, he had put in a tremendous amount of effort, even managing to deceive all the Emperors, only to arrive here as a Crown Prince and City Lord and formally propose to Mei Gongzi.
The difficulty of it all… Even imagining it left her awestruck. But they had made it. The clouds had finally parted, and the moon now shone bright.
At last, the carriage stopped. Tang San’s heart trembled slightly. He instinctively turned to Luo Qingzhu and asked, “Are we here?”
With his divine sense, he didn’t need to ask; he could have scanned the area in a blink. But in his nervous and excited state, he still asked out loud.
Luo Qingzhu nodded gently and smiled, “Don’t be nervous. She’s already in her wedding dress, just waiting for you.”
“Mm.” Tang San nodded firmly. Words could no longer express his emotions.
Stepping down from the carriage, he found the grand gates of the City Lord’s Mansion wide open. The city’s great war drums sounded eighty-one times, a number reserved only for the most formal of ceremonies. This level of reception was typically reserved for Emperors. But at this moment, Tang San was not just a Crown Prince; he was the future son-in-law of Kali City’s ruling clan, and no one in the Ancestral Court would accuse him of overstepping.
Tang San straightened his clothes slightly and looked at Luo Qingzhu, who once again gestured for him to proceed.
This time, he did not decline. He strode boldly into the city lord’s mansion.
He could already sense her divine consciousness, and he even felt the faint vibration of the Asura Sword within it. His heart raced. How could she be calm?
At this moment, all outside sounds faded. All Tang San could hear was his own footsteps, his heartbeat, and—growing ever closer—the heartbeat of another.
His vision blurred slightly. In his mind, memories of his past life flashed by. Moments when she had given everything for him, moments when he’d held her tightly, countless moments of joy they had shared. The past and present’s moments of happiness overlapped, becoming one.
Tang San couldn’t help but thank the will of the universe from the bottom of his heart. In the end, it had let their love triumph. Finally, he could get back the love of his life, the love of every life. Finally, she would return to his side once more.
He finally stepped into the grand hall.
There were no guests and no witnesses. The massive hall was empty.
As Tang San walked in, Luo Qingzhu raised her hand, and the two enormous doors closed behind him.
