Chapter 424: Law of Love |
“Oak Dryad?”
Hearing Janna’s words, Lawrence-Ema pondered for a moment before leading Janna in one direction.
“Miss Janna, please watch your step.”
As he guided Janna deeper into the plant zone, Lawrence-Ema did not forget to remind her to be careful of the roots of various Active Magical Plants.
Receiving his reminder, Janna carefully avoided the roots while also observing the various plant-type magical creatures around her.
“There are actually 【Thornflower Sprites】 here———·
Looking at the nearby 【Thornflower Sprite】, which maintained its flower bud form, Janna could not help but reveal a surprised expression.
Aside from marveling at the richness of the “collection” within the 【Transfiguration Museum】, she was even more surprised that the 【Thornflower Sprite】 existed in a “living state”.
“The plant-type magical beasts in the 【Transfiguration Museum】 are mostly in active states, not made into specimens.”
“Is it because plant-type creatures have lower tendencies to attack?”
“No, it is because plant-type creatures have long lifespans and abundant vitality. Other creatures, however, have short lifespans. Their physical decline affects the entire body’s functions, making them unsuitable for transfiguration research.”
Hearing this, Janna pursed her lips slightly.
To put it bluntly, it was simply disdaining non-plant creatures for having lifespans too short to maintain peak condition.
Thus, in order to maximize efficiency, the 【Transfiguration Museum】’s practice was to turn these creatures into specimens when their bodies were at peak condition.
Though cruel, it indeed followed the principle of maximizing returns.
As the two ventured deeper, after about fifteen minutes, under Lawrence-Ema’s lead, Janna finally found the goal of her visit—【Oak Dryad】.
【Fairy】, a plant-type extraordinary creature, mostly dwelled in places like the Spirit Forest where plant elements were abundant.
Fairies could be categorized into Tree Dryads, Flower Fairies, Elemental Fairies, Moon Fairies, and others.
The target Janna sought this time was one of the better-known Tree Dryads—the 【Oak Dryad】.
The reason for the Oak Dryad’s fame was not due to great power, but rather because, after completing their life evolution, they became 【Oak Dryads (Dryads of Oaks)】 whose reputation was, frankly, “quite foul”.
The most infamous stories were of 【Oak Dryads】 using 【Extraordinary Charm】 to bewitch adult human men and then devour their souls.
Of course, this reputation was also tied to the embellishments of wandering poets, who delighted in attributing “love-struck” tales to such beautiful yet dangerous extraordinary beings.
“So this is an 【Oak Dryad】?”
Looking at the small figure, only the size of a fist, curled up “asleep” within a flower bud not far away, Janna, seeing such a creature for the first time, could not hide her wonder.
Behind it was a pair of slender, pale green translucent wings; on its fair, doll-like face were delicate features; and its body wore a mini dress crafted from oak leaves.
Just from appearance alone, the 【Oak Dryad】, with its extremely high Charisma, could never inspire dislike in anyone.
But Janna, having researched the 【Oak Dryad】 beforehand, knew very well that their temperament was as vile as that of the 【Oak Dryads】.
Though they did not go as far as devouring human souls, countless “deadly” pranks were attributed to them.
Coupled with the Oak Dryad’s ghostly speed comparable to Wind Elemental beings, they were truly a headache.
The reason Janna chose the 【Oak Dryad】 as her transfiguration study target this time was precisely because of its flying speed, and its shared affinity with her as a plant-element being.
In this 【Transfiguration Trial】, Janna could clearly feel that one of her shortcomings was her much slower flying speed compared to other contestants when she transformed into her Butterfly Wing Form.
Thus, in order to resolve this problem, on Lilith-Mage’s personal suggestion, Janna set her sights on the only plant-type fairy creature in the 【Transfiguration Museum】—the 【Oak Dryad】.
“Miss Janna, would you like me to retrieve detailed information on the 【Oak Dryad】 for you?”
“Yes, please. Thank you.”
“You are too polite.”
After speaking, Lawrence-Ema muttered a few words into his bracelet.
“You may need to wait around ten minutes. In the meantime, I can open the isolation barrier surrounding the 【Oak Dryad】 for you.”
“Alright.”
After stepping back a few paces, Janna watched Lawrence-Ema tap around the area enclosing the 【Oak Dryad】.
“It’s ready. Until eight o’clock tomorrow morning, you may freely conduct research on the 【Oak Dryad】.”
“Alright.”
Hearing Lawrence-Ema’s words, Janna, knowing the barrier was now open, wasted no time and walked directly to the 【Oak Dryad】’s side.
“Hahahaha一”
As Janna approached, a silvery, bell-like laugh suddenly rang in her ears.
But hearing this abrupt laughter, Janna’s first reaction was irritation.
“Is this the power of a 【Law】?”
After quickly calming herself, Janna, being extremely familiar with the 【Law of Beauty】, instantly recognized the familiar 【Law】 fluctuations coming from the 【Oak Dryad】.
However, what puzzled her was that this 【Law】’s power differed from the 【Law of Beauty】 she knew. Instead, it carried a force that welled up from the soul, entwined with many negative emotions.
“Could it be the 【Law of Emotion】?”
Her brows furrowed slightly. Even with this guess, Janna dared not be certain.
After all, though the 【Law of Emotion】 was a subordinate law of the 【Law of Beauty】, at times it also shared countless threads of connection with another 【Primary Law】—the 【Law of Love】.
“Could it truly be the 【Law of Love】?”
After a brief moment of thought without reaching an answer, Janna decided to set the matter aside for now.
As long as Lawrence-Ema retrieved the relevant information on the 【Oak Dryad】, she would roughly know the origin of this strange negative emotion.
“Hu一” Letting out a long breath, Janna looked at the 【Oak Dryad】 right before her and swiftly cast 【Mental Perception】 witchcraft.
Immediately, as her magic circulated, a verdant green light appeared between Janna’s hands.
