Book 3: Chapter 133 (3)

The king’s furious roar faded as he plummeted.

Elizabeth stepped back to the bow, looking at Kant, who had fallen into the Primal Nightmare’s corpse,

“You are the final trump card Shadow left for me.”

“The Dagger Trio has already sacrificed themselves for the Empire. Now… it’s your turn to sacrifice for Shadow.”

Her tone was cold as ice, devoid of even the slightest trace of marital affection.

“Elizabeth… how could you—how could you do this to me!! I—Don’t come near me! Stay away! Get back!!”

As Kant fell into the black muck, countless writhing tendrils surged toward him, dragging him completely into the Primal Nightmare’s corpse in the blink of an eye.

The queen on the land boat watched coldly, murmuring softly,

“It seems we must abandon the Empire, Lord Shadow.”

“Hey, looks like something fell from the land boat.”

Rebecca looked at the black corpse ahead, narrowing her eyes to observe closely, “That thing… is it still moving?”

Hearing this, Leon and the others turned to look.

Sure enough, the Primal Nightmare, which should have been dead, was still active.

Was it a final struggle before death?

Or…

As they wondered, Rebecca’s peripheral vision caught a glimpse of a small cluster of tendrils from the Primal Nightmare absorbing fragments of a recording stone at her feet.

The crazy girl quickly stepped back, loading her sniper rifle, aiming, and firing.

The magic bullet shot out, hitting the tendril precisely.

But it caused no damage.

The bullet was absorbed by the tendril!

“What the—?!”

As the girl froze, Martin scooped her up and dashed backward.

Constantine, sensing danger, leaped onto a nearby low building.

Claudia spread her dragon wings, flashing into the air to dodge the spreading black tendrils.

Roswitha carried Leon into the air as well.

From above, Leon could see more clearly what the black monster was doing.

Its splitting tendrils expanded and extended outward, absorbing everything—rubble, recording stone fragments, organic or inorganic matter—making it all part of the Primal Nightmare.

And as it consumed more, its size kept growing.

At this moment, the Primal Nightmare was like a giant black octopus, using its tendrils to devour everything in sight.

“Did I just… see Kant fall into that monster’s corpse?”

“This rotten country has finally gone mad in the worst way possible.”

“That thing’s still not dead?! It’s still swallowing everything around it!”

“…”

The recording stone resonance array broadcast the Upper District’s anomaly in real-time to every corner of the Empire.

The eerie transformation after Kant merged with the Primal Nightmare sent chills down everyone’s spines.

In just ten seconds, half the Upper District was devoured by the black monster.

“Teacher Carolyn… I’m scared…”

In front of Kasmod Welfare Home, a little girl clung tightly to Carolyn.

The uncanny fear seeped into Carolyn’s heart as well, but she had to stay strong—she still had to care for the children.

“It’s okay… it’s okay…”

“Brother Leon… Brother Leon will definitely beat it! He will!”

Even the terrified little nun Sharon showed no retreat or despair in this moment.

Because she knew, as long as Leon hadn’t fallen, there was still hope.

“Leon… you can do it, you definitely… can do it.”

Carolyn looked at the man in the recording stone’s image, silently praying for him in her heart.

“If we let it keep eating like this, the entire Empire will be gone by tonight.”

Constantine said, releasing a powerful dragon flame at the monster below.

Yet the flame was extinguished in the countless black tendrils.

The next moment, the Primal Nightmare’s body expanded further.

At the same time, its rough black skin gradually turned deep red, and from its black surface, it suddenly unleashed a high-intensity fireball.

Fortunately, its attack speed was slow, and Leon and the others in the air dodged easily.

“Magic attacks are also absorbed and countered.”

Claudia said, “In other words, we can’t use any moves with magical energy to attack it. That’ll only make it stronger.”

“What about primal power?” Roswitha asked.

“Probably won’t work either. The monster still contains the Dagger Trio, so it likely has resistance and absorption abilities against primal power too.”

Magic attacks were ineffective, and primal power was ineffective.

It seemed like a deadlock.

After a brief silence, Leon suddenly spoke,

“I still have one method. It’s truly my last move.”

The three Dragon Kings turned to him.

“You’re not talking about…”

“That’s right. Since no magic attacks work, we’ll have to try the most primal physical techniques.”

Leon looked at Constantine, “This move was originally meant for you, Constantine.”

Old Con blinked, “For me?”

“Yeah.”

Leon shifted his gaze to the monster below, still devouring buildings and streets,

“But with the situation this dire, I’ll have to reveal the surprise early.”

“Roswitha, set me down, then take Rebecca and the others to a safe place. I’ll handle this alone.”

The queen frowned slightly, “You’re trying to play hero again.”

“No, not playing hero. If you guys stay, I can’t go all out.”

Roswitha still glared at him.

After a brief stare-down with his wife, Leon quickly conceded.

“Alright, there’s a tiny bit of personal heroism. But don’t worry, I’ll be fine. Trust me.”

“Leave it to me” and “I’ll be fine” were always Leon’s words to reassure those around him in critical moments.
