Chapter 2743: Happy to Stay

Standing on the great wall of the Dark City, Sunny gazed at the starless sky.

A vast black void loomed above the Forgotten Shore, endless in its dark eternity...

Today, a beautiful demon raced the winds across the black void, basking in its endless lightlessness.

Some time later, Revel landed on the parapet of the battlements near him. In her Transcendent form, the Dark Dancer was like a demoness sculpted out of pure darkness — her height had increased to nearly four meters, her raven hair seemed to have grown much longer, and two obsidian horns protruded from her head, curving slightly.

Two black leathery wings extended from her back, crowned with obsidian spikes... looking at those deadly talons, Sunny could not help but shiver while remembering the sensation of them piercing Saint's flesh like it was paper.

Revel inhaled with full chest, then exhaled slowly and turned the gaze of her tenebrous eyes to him.

"It's really true.’

She turned back to face the starless sky and sighed.

"A land without a sun..."

Sunny remained silent for a few moments, then smiled faintly.

"Technically, there used to be a sun here. But Nephis killed it.”

Revel did not respond, so he looked at her and asked:

"So? Do you like it here?"

She chuckled and remained silent.

After a while, though, she did speak:

"Like it? Yes. More than yes, really — it feels like this place and I were meant to be. Funny, isn't it? Seishan spent a decade trying to escape from here, but here I am, happy to stay."

Revel looked down.

"Few of us orphans have come this far. Some perished in the First Nightmare, some fell later on. And those who remain all bear their curses... their Flaws. Seishan's Flaw might be the heaviest, but mine is the cruelest, I think."

She looked at him.

“What about you, Lord of Shadows? How heavy is your Flaw?"

Sunny raised an eyebrow. Among the Awakened, asking about one's Flaw was considered to be extremely rude. But then again, after witnessing Revel in her natural habitat, he would have to be a fool to expect grace and decorum from her.

He shrugged with a smile.

“It definitely shaped my life in ways I did not expect. All of it felt terribly unfair back then... but now, I think it was for the best." Sunny looked at the vast expanse of the Forgotten Shore stretching in front of him. Revel studied him for a few moments, then asked:

“Do you like it here yourself?"

He chuckled.

"l like that this land offers me an inherent advantage over anyone who would try to invade it. I also like ruling over a land that failed to kill me... 1 am quite a spiteful person, you see. Being the Dark Lord of the Forgotten Shore brings me quite a lot of vindictive joy."

With that, Sunny shook his head.

“Which is not to say that ruling the Forgotten Shore does not bring me a lot of headaches, as well. This place does not really make sense, after all. It is fine that there is no sun here, but how does the weather stay temperate without a sun? Hell if I know. Most of the water disappeared when the Dark Sea was sealed, so I need to procure it somehow..."

He pursed his lips.

“There's some groundwater left, but it is too deep to dig wells. The whole place is basically a desert, which means that, in theory, nothing is stopping the Nightmare Desert from swallowing it. Should I be worried about desertification? Once again, no clue. There are more issues like that." Sunny finally looked down, where an enclosed settlement had appeared beneath the wall of the Dark City. His expression became complicated.

“For now, we've been importing water and food supplies through a Dream Gate, but that is merely a temporary measure. I would like to make the Forgotten Shore self-sufficient, and on top of that, there won't be a source of supplies on the other side of the Gate in the future. Because there won't be a waking world in the future."

The settlement had been built out of manifested shadows. It wasn't anything special architecture-wise, but Sunny had at least made an effort to make the buildings look similar to those in the Dark City. His experience of creating shelters in Ariel's Game had been of great help, so the result was decent.

Best of all, the shadows he manifested were durable enough to be a nearly indestructible obstacle for humans of the Awakened Rank. Considering that the settlement was meant to serve as a prison camp — or a quarantine facility, if he wanted to be glib about it — that was quite satisfactory.

Of course, there was a difference between creating a comfortable shelter for himself and Kai and building a settlement meant to house thousands of humans.

There had to be some kind of sewage system, for example. Trash had to be collected and disposed of, food had to be prepared and distributed, there had to be running water, and since he didn't want the prisoners to die of boredom, there also had to be some forms of recreational pastime available — and much more.

Luckily, Sunny had already accumulated some relevant experience while arranging proper accommodations for the members of the Shadow Clan staying in the Dark City, albeit on a much smaller scale. So, he had managed to make the prison camp quite habitable.

Which did nothing to diminish its grim nature, of course.

‘I really feel like a villain these days.' Looking down, Sunny sighed.

“Speaking of importing supplies, we need to source way more food and water now. It's a good thing that our friends in the government know how to hide paper trails very well.”

Revel frowned.

"You managed to capture all these people without killing anyone — which is hard to believe, good job. But..."

She gave him a long stare.

"Now what?"

Sunny gave her a long look.

"Now we keep them here until the Dreamspawn is dealt with, while adding more."

He did not know how long it would take for Asterion to be defeated.

Hopefully, he would not need to expand this settlement, though...

People are suggesting the Eternal Spring and that's valid but it's not really sustainable. What?

Sunny would have to leave the Memory somewhere safe and let its Water's pour throughout the Forgotten Shore and who knows what contamination the land holds? And would the Eternal Spring even be safe for mundane consumption?

Think about it; Eventually Mundane people will be born or take up residence within the Forgotten Shore and relying on the Eternal Spring would be simple but what of nutrient deficiencies? Contamination of the land? And the memory itself is just randomly destroyed to whatever factors?

    Sunny can pump out similar things to the Tank or give unlimited weapons to Humanities but Anvil is handling the weapon situation and in the same mind;

    Self Sufficiency

Some suggestions are entirely relying on Sunny taking care of it and doesn't take the fact he can just die randomly; To us, he's the main character and would never die no matter what, but to Sunny he's still as fallible and likely to die as any other so the Eternal Spring and any other memories he has out can just vanish.

You guys suggestions are entirely relying on his protagonist status and to still consider plot protection as a main point just dulls your reading experience.

Seriously. How are you guys still struggling to accept Sunny could die and his decisions reflect that

    hah.

Nothing like a Transcendent soul shard can fix, if Sunny can't improve the Everlasting Spring with his weaving then he's just refusing to use his abilities out of pride.

          pepeg_12 "pride"?

Seriously. Pride? you read 2,743(two thousand, seven hundred and forty-three) chapters of SS and you're saying he's refusing his abilities out of pride? 😂 😂

          Anyway, the Eternal Spring was an auxiliary item from the get go and risking destroying it,no matter his prowess, just cause it's the easiest to come to and most convenient option it doesn't take all the factors that should be considered;

          1. The container- can it even hold a transcend soul?
          2. Ultimately a memory- If Sunny needs it, Forgotten Shore 'boutta experience a drought
          3. Just needs one bad actor for something to happen to the water and the memory

Dunno what else cuz' I ain't thinking that hard but that pride line definitely gave me a giggle~ thx fastest pooper!

Oh please, are you seriously buying the reasoning he can't improve Endless Spring just because of the inherent limitations of it's Rank? He already has the weave and enchantments for it memorized, if a Transcendent shard can't handle it, use a Master shard then adjust the weave to rectify and accommodate it. The issue of security can be easily solved by Shades. Have the Eternal Immortals guard it then put Daeron in Sea Serpent form if he's making it like the Mirror Lake Reservoir or Dark Sea.

He has the most flexible sorcery, but he's refusing to use for what? He made a Nephis-esque bomb during Ariel's game, a Grand Formation that disintegrated an entire volcano and his enemies but a Semi-sufficient water supply is out of his abilities? Provided that formation used Supreme Shard but, c'mon.

Never denied he couldn't improve it, just wondered if it was feasible.

Could station Daeron in Sea Serpent form but that still takes essence out of Sunny on the global scale each incarnation of his is working at. He's not making a Lake and he's still trying to kill the Dark Sea so forgot about improving the memory; the moment he kills whatever that is and makes it a regular sea the water problems gonna be solved

Honestly, if the problem could've been solved by sorcery Sunny would've considered it cuz sorcery is part of his arsenal

You really need to think on the sheer scale Sunny's operating and notice you're just asking too much

Example? HE has seven incarnations and all of them are busy.

edit: don't be discouraged. If you can prove me wrong I don't mind admitting as much.

One thing I never accepted is that this type of memory is so rare, considering there was an entire clan of masters at forging memories.

And even if we ignore that, the fact that Sunny never bothered to strengthen or replicate this memory is illogical. Sunny, of all people, knows the value that this infinite bottle possesses.

True, but where will he get the water? From the Eternal Spring? Concentrated Spring Water seems like a bad idea, hell, concentrated anything seems like a bad idea and the water wheel seems sound but the land they're in definitely causing problems.

      There's literally no Sun and who knows what could just get into the water itself? Leaving someone to stand guard is a waste and I'm saying that considering the current situation;

      Asterion.

With that, your idea ain't well thought out

Regarding your first question, you go back to what the description of Endless Spring is. It gives you 'endless amount of fresh water'. It's not concentrated Spring Water, it's Fresh Water, totally drinkable. The water issue is solved by just letting the Endless Spring pour out the water, if it's not doing well considering it's just a bottle, take the normal water supply from the waking world, make a Weave as similar to the Endless Spring, Weave enchantments that specify [Boundless],[Self sustain] or whatever weave it corresponds to, get some help with Rain, Cas and Neph, he has 3 sorcerers of different systems with him using Names, Epitaphs and Runic, trial and error for the Grand Weave then scale it up to a more suitable contraption. And it doesn't need to be a water wheel, a water wheel is just more suited for the Lake plan. He can ask Neph for the opinion of that Girl in Bastion doing the Water Dam what suits their territory.

The Sun is whatever, he has almost full Omniscience in the Dark City and the Whole Forgotten Shore, so unless a Nothing Creature or Mordret decides to take a dip in his lake Daeron can handle almost all of the issues, the Shadow Clan also has people of various specialties, or just borrow the herbalist guy from the Firekeepers to take a routine inspection of it.

And yeah Asterion is a problem currently but all of these things could've been done BEFORE they were dealing with the cultists, before the Burning Forest and even before Ariel's Game. Sunny has the logistics, he has the wealth, he has his Shades to do the heavy lifting. Again, Sunny always had time by his side, even if you factor him running around the whole realms dealing with major issues, he has the Shadow Clan to help him. One of his incarnations is also there sitting on the shadow chair so it makes you wonder why all of these things were never done if he knows what the problems in his base of operations are.

I did not consider the description, I'll take that L scrumptiously.

The water supply of the waking world is for the millions of humans there and the world itself is still being subsumed- the Forgotten Shore wasn't as pressing of a situation as back then so we can forgive Sunny for lounging about(and even that incarnation was overseeing the training of the Shadow Clan) and the oceans of the waking world can't be considered; It's a contaminated mess of nuclear reactions on top of whatever is putting to sleep whoever isn't qualified to those waters

[Boundless],[Self Sustain] and whatever Weave enchantments alongside Rain could actually do something about the situation if he employed it back then butt he didn't and I can only think 1 reason

          time

Rain has to become a master somehow, The Shadow Clan needs training, His friends need to starting getting an idea on how to become Supreme, Where in gods name is Weavers inheritance, Reallocation of the human domain, on top of that solving whatever would make Nephis look bad and shake her Domain

Sunny's laziness had ended when he stopped flipping pancakes and serving customers

IF I had just one answer on why I'd have to point at the Dark Sea itself.

The Forgotten Shore had natural water to solve all of this at one point of time and the Dark Sea is still trapped in his lands and that's a threat no matter how long he ignores or whatever alternatives he gives. Not to Sunny himself but rather; his citizens

Summary? I suspect he's banking on "killing" the dark and keeping the sea

He can make an improved version of Endless Spring. I've been thinking about this for a long time. Sunny's reluctance to make weapon artifacts is understandable, but it's such a handy tool. To provide all of humanity with an endless source of clean water, it needs only 1 fragment of the supreme soul for a maximum of an hour of time. Regarding this, we can also recall the Fragment of Dawn. It's an incredibly useful memory that he can churn out in batches, but doesn't. This may raise a few questions for ordinary people, but is it really important?
