Chapter 1182: A Casual Promotion

"Since you have made your choice and received your reward, you are no longer a part of the 9th Division. I wish you well on your journey forward." Izroth said calmly.

"Thank you for everything, Captain, Lieutenants! I will remember your kindness for the rest of my life!" Poised Axe said excitedly as he quickly placed the small pouch into his inventory. He was afraid that Izroth would suddenly change his mind.

Poised Axe turned toward the members of the 9th Division and cupped his fists as he said, "Everyone, take care of yourselves. I'll be going first."

Not long after he spoke, Poised Axe headed toward the exit with quickened steps and left the building.

Niflheim released a small sigh as he watched Poised Axe leave.

"I was hoping I'd be wrong, but I had a feeling Poised Axe would be the first one to take that offer. It's a shame. I saw him as a talented player with some potential. He would have definitely grown in the 9th Division. Sadly, he is the type to advance and retreat too easily." Niflheim said as he could hide the disappointment in his tone.

"It is as our Captain stated. He has made his choice. Life has taught me that humans more often than not forsake the bigger picture for what is in front of them." Menerva said calmly.

"I understand. Still, it doesn't make it any less disappointing." Niflheim replied as he shook his head.

After Poised Axe stepped up and walked away after receiving his gold coins, six other members of the 9th Division followed in his footsteps. Just like Poised Axe before them, they all thanked Izroth for his kindness and generosity before walking with a wide smile on their face.

"Is there anyone else?" Izroth asked.

Izroth's question was met with a deafening silence.

'Fewer left than I anticipated. This much is already beyond my expectations.'

With the conditions he offered up front, Izroth expected almost half of the 9th Division to walk away with a bag full of gold coins. However, it seemed that the foundations of the 9th Division were even stronger than he imagined.

Izroth gave a nod of approval as a carefree smile appeared on his face.

"Since that's everything, then I won't bring it up again in the future. What I will say is that, if one day you wish to leave the 9th Division, I will see to it that you are able to leave with no regrets. However, should you choose to stay with me until the end, I will take you further than you ever could have imagined." Izroth stated.

"You won't be able to get rid of us that easily, Captain! Whether you ask us to charge ahead or climb the heavens, I'll be here until the end!" Champion shouted confidently as he struck his chest with his fist.

"That's right! We're all with the 9th Division until the end!" Revel chimed in.

"We'll support the Captain and Lieutenants!" Astral Knight yelled.

In the blink of an eye, the atmosphere in the building became lively as the members of the 9th Division shouted their willingness to stay as part of the 9th Division.

Izroth held up his hand. The moment he did so, everyone quieted down.

"Now that this matter has been settled, it's about time I moved on to the main topic." Izroth started.

He then continued, "Starting from now, we will begin expanding the 9th Division. Going forward, Lieutenant Niflheim and Lieutenant Menerva will handle the test for those who wish to be promoted to a Squad Leaders. I will allow Lieutenant Niflheim to explain things from here."

Niflheim stepped forward and said, "As you all known, currently, our division is limited in the number of high positions that can be given out. Let alone bringing in more players, it is difficult to find a place for all of you to advance based on your performance. We are aware that, if given a choice, most of you would not want to stay a Soldier or Squad Leader forever. That's why, our Captain has decided to try his best to solve this problem so that we can move our division to the next level."

Solve the problem? In the minds of those present, there were only two ways for Izroth to solve such a problem. The first was to leave the General Support Unit and set up other another branch of war. However, Izroth clearly stated on multiple occasions that he planned to make the General Support Unit the strongest. Naturally, going over to another war branch would defeat the purpose.

As for the second solution, he had to somehow rise to the ranks of a Commander. But, everyone knew that person at the head of the General Support Unit held the rank of Commander. If Izroth truly was promoted to such a rank, wouldn't that put him on the same level as the individual leading the General Support Unit war branch?

"You heard it. I plan to expand the 9th Division. But, to speak bluntly, a division is not enough for what I have planned. Given my achievements thus far, I don't think what I'm asking is unreasonable. So, my request—will you grant it?" Izroth said to seemingly no one.

At first, there was only silence, accompanied by a bit of confusion on the faces of the 9th Division members. Exactly who was their Captain making a request to? Surely, it was not to them, right?

As those thoughts rushed through their minds, the space above Izroth tore open and revealed a figure floating casually in the air above.

"Eh~? How could you wake me up for such an insignificant reason~? Becoming Commander or whatever... Well, I don't care. If you want the whole General Support Unit, I can just give it to you. It'll make my life a whole lot easier~" A voice sounded from overhead.

The sudden emergence of this individual caused everyone present to be momentarily shocked. Where on earth did this strange person come from?

"That's... Ah! It's the Commander of the General Support Unit!" Revel exclaimed with an expression of disbelief.

"What? That's the head of the General Support Unit? But, this... How can I say it? It's a little different from what I imagined..." Sanctity said with a helpless smile.

The person floating in the air was none other than the current Commander of the General Support Unit, Seraphina. But, her appearance was not what one would expect from a Commander.

Seraphina wore a dark violet silk-like gown and was floating on soft cloud that acted as her bed. Her eyes were covered by a sleep mask. She had messy and unkempt hair as if she had just woken up from a long rest.

Seraphina sat upright on the cloud and lifted one side of the sleep mask just to the point where one of her eyes were peeking out.

Seraphina raised her mouth to her hand as she let out a yawn as she glanced down at Izroth and said, "I was sleeping so soundly yet my sleep was disturbed like this... I worked really hard lately because of a certain someone."

Most of the players who joined the 9th Division had never seen the Commander of the General Support Unit before today. That's because, while she was the one personally attending to those signing up for the General Support Unit in Amaharpe's Capital City, most of those present were dropped into the General Support Unit due to not picking a war branch in time before the event started. And, given how much Seraphina avoided work, it was no surprise that most of the players who joined the General Support Unit that way did not know her.

"I only gave Commander Aurie the suggestion. Besides, as the head of the General Support Unit, how can you give up your position to someone else so easily? I will have to decline that honor." Izroth said in a carefree manner.

Izroth believed Seraphina's words when she said that she would make him the head of the General Support Unit. Though, while the head of a war branch was tempting, Izroth was not so foolish as to rush and accept it.

The only thing holding the General Support Unit together along with its ability do as it pleased was none other than the power and influence of Seraphina.

Izroth did not know the exact details; however, he knew that Seraphina was someone that those higher ups could not ignore. Rather, seeing as how she was placed as the head of the General Support Unit, it was almost like those higher ups wanted to keep her as far away as possible from any actual responsibilities.

"Tch... Stingy..." Seraphina said as she clicked her tongue.

She released a light yawn, placed the sleep mask back over her eyes and laid back down on the cloud.

Seraphina casually waved her hand and said, "It's just a Commander rank. From now on, I'm a General and you're a Commander. Good achievements and all that other stuff, or, whatever... I'm going back to sleep."

〈System Alert: You have been promoted from «Captain of the General Support Unit 9th Division» to «Commander of the General Support Unit Special Unit»!〉
