Chapter 125: The Big Haul |
After dealing with the Giant Toad, everyone turned their attention back to Yuan Ming, who was still unconscious.
"Someone give me a hand here," Wang Yun called out.
Two people worked together to gently roll Yuan Ming onto his side, keeping him in a lateral recumbent position.
After a moment's thought, Qin Ziwen took off his jacket and draped it over Yuan Ming.
Qin Ziwen frowned. "I've heard you shouldn't move an unconscious person carelessly."
"Hmm, that is indeed the common advice. The best approach is to call for an ambulance," Wang Yun nodded, then smiled wryly. "But we can't wait for rescue anymore. We have to figure something out ourselves."
Wang Yun lowered his head, looking worriedly at the large, swollen bump on Yuan Ming's forehead. "I'm just concerned this coma is caused by damage to the cranial nerves. If that's the case, it would be very troublesome."
Qin Ziwen suggested, "Regardless, let's try something. Doctor Wang, what should we do in this situation?"
Wang Yun said, "I'll do my best to try."
Deng Guang asked curiously, "Doctor Wang, I've noticed many doctors like to check patients' pupils. What's the principle behind that?"
After checking both of Yuan Ming's pupils, Wang Yun let out a slight sigh of relief and turned his head to explain, "If the pupils are asymmetrical, it indicates brain damage. His pupils are relatively symmetrical. Captain, lend me your flashlight."
Qin Ziwen handed the solar flashlight to Wang Yun, who set it to the dimmest setting. He then covered it with another layer of clothing to make the light as non-stimulating as possible.
He performed a pupillary light reflex test on Yuan Ming.
After checking and confirming once more, Wang Yun finally pressed on Yuan Ming's philtrum.
Deng Guang, standing nearby, suddenly whispered excitedly, "He moved! He moved!"
Yuan Ming, lying on the ground, had his eyelashes quiver slightly.
The others gathered around, watching as Yuan Ming slowly opened his eyes.
Qin Ziwu asked curiously, "How do you feel?"
Yuan Ming opened his eyes, looking dazed at first. After quite a while, his focus gradually sharpened. "My head hurts."
Wang Yun's expression changed slightly. "It won't leave any lasting effects, will it? Where exactly does it hurt?"
"I don't know," Yuan Ming first shook his head, then seemed to sense something.
He reached out, touched the large bump on his own forehead, and pressed it gently. The pain made him suck in a sharp breath. "Sss!!!"
Seeing this, Wang Yun actually relaxed. "You've got swelling there. It's fine, don't overthink it."
Qin Ziwu asked, "Are you still conscious?"
Yuan Ming hesitated for a moment, then nodded.
"Good. Then what's one thousand seven hundred and eighty-four multiplied by five thousand six hundred and forty-five?"
Yuan Ming looked up, bewildered. He felt like maybe he wasn't that clear-headed after all.
Qin Ziwen shot his younger brother an annoyed look. "Stop teasing him. He just woke up."
Only then did Yuan Ming realize Qin Ziwu was joking with him. He immediately chuckled and got up from the ground. "I'll tell you after I get a calculator."
Once standing, Yuan Ming recalled the earlier scene with lingering fear. "That was almost the death of me just now. Thankfully, the big tree was mighty."
That Giant Toad had just charged straight at him like that.
A dark, oppressive mass, like a mountain.
More thrilling than bungee jumping.
He walked over to the front of this tree, which had a diameter close to one and a half meters. Behind it, where the Giant Toad had struck, large patches of bark had peeled off. The tree trunk was riddled with many cracks, and roots were exposed above the ground. The originally straight tree was now tilted nearly twenty degrees, as if hit by a speeding car.
Seeing that he could walk on his own, was clear-headed, and logical, the others let him follow the group on his own feet.
After all, none of them were professional doctors. While they worried there might be aftereffects or something, there was nothing they could do. They couldn't perform a CT scan or an MRI here.
Walking at the back of the group descending the mountain, Qin Ziwen looked at the setting sun in the west and suddenly felt a pang of emotion.
Their current living environment was quite similar to that of ancient people. Minor illnesses could be treated, but major illnesses depended on fate.
"Hey, big brother, walk faster! Hurry down the mountain to find the cards!" Qin Ziwu, walking ahead, turned around, put his hands to his mouth, and shouted loudly.
Qin Ziwen snapped out of his thoughts and quickened his pace. "Coming!"
......
Because the Giant Toad had fallen off the cliff, the group took a detour and finally reached the ravine bottom.
The flames here were gradually dying out, and the sky was turning pitch black.
The Giant Toad's abdomen was scorched black, its limbs stiff, like a solidified sculpture.
Right above its corpse, five cards slowly rotated on its belly, their emitted light particularly eye-catching in the night.
The most conspicuous was the card in the center, radiating a golden light. Qin Ziwen had seen cards with similar patterns before—Resource Cards.
The other Resource Cards he had seen were all silver with black borders. This one, however, was gold with a black border.
Apart from that, the other four cards surrounding it at the corners were respectively two gray ones, one silver with black border, and one yellow card.
The yellow-colored card was also seen for the first time.
One could only say, it truly lived up to being a colossal monster.
Luck had played a significant role in being able to hunt it this time.
After it fell off the cliff and lay immobilized on the ground, it took a full dozen minutes of burning from the Molotov cocktails alone to die, which was enough to see its terrifying vitality.
If it hadn't fallen off the cliff, in an open area, they wouldn't have been able to stop it if it wanted to run.
Moreover, the gasoline used this time was indeed an effective weapon. If it were firewood or other combustibles, it would have been impossible to achieve such adhesive burning.
But high difficulty meant great rewards.
A full five cards. Qin Ziwu climbed onto the Giant Toad's abdomen and retrieved all five cards.
"We hit the jackpot! Big brother, I've never seen so many cards at once!"
Everyone gathered around, taking turns holding and examining the five cards.
[Building Card] Level 1 Orchard, [Building Card] Level 1 Carpenter's Hut, [Resource Card] Level 1 Spring, [Advanced Resource Card] Level 1 Healing Spring, [Building Enhancement Card] Randomly grants one special effect.
Among them, the most valuable were the Advanced Resource Card and the Building Enhancement Card.
The Advanced Resource Card goes without saying—it's rarer than ordinary Resource Cards.
One could guess the general purpose of this Healing Spring just from its name.
It should be able to treat injuries or cure illnesses. Whichever type it is, in the current environment, it is a strategic-level resource.
Then there's the Building Enhancement Card, which can grant a building a special effect.
This special effect is not the same as a characteristic.
Something like Growth Acceleration is a characteristic, whereas the Celestial Star Arrow Gallery's ability to generate arrows out of thin air is a special effect.
In Qin Ziwen's view, the biggest difference between ordinary buildings and advanced buildings lies in these special effects.
Of course, the characteristics of advanced buildings are also somewhat better than those of ordinary buildings.
Qin Ziwen said to the group, "These five cards, plus the Blank Expansion Card we obtained today, make a total of six cards. We'll assign different contribution point standards based on their value. Those who accumulate enough contribution points can exchange for them. How does that sound?"
