The Creatures that We Are异兽迷城

I’m caught up now. While this seems like another plot armor filled harem shonen novel to some (not to me, the gender ratio is pretty even), if I had to use one genre to classify this, it would be tragedy. After the volume that ends around chapter 390, the whole books starts taking a darker turn. Before that, characters were saved consistently through “plot armor” but that can only go so far. I’ll go over some pros and cons I had.
Pros:
- good worldbuilding (even if small) and characters. Characters are very fleshed out, sometimes too fleshed out maybe
- nice mystery and I like that what the world looks like is not what it seems. We are also always on our toes so I’d add a thrill tag as well
- new idea for a power system, so it is fresh (to me at least)
- character development not only for the mc but for a lot of people
- a lot of chapters. Obviously a pro because we can read a completely new almost finished novel, and if your a veteran starving for novels, this is perfect (plus it’s 2 new chapters a day)
There may be some more but I can’t think of any at the moment.
Cons:
- like I said earlier, this can be seen as a pro or con but many characters are fleshed out, including some background characters, given 1-2 straight chapters for themselves. While it gives the story more depth, some may see this as a con if they want to see more of the mc and his group. (Personally I don’t mind much since it doesn’t happen often until later on, some may though)
- plot armor like power ups. While it is explained, the power ups sometimes come very easily. So while I may put it as a con here, it is only here because I got some dissatisfaction seeing people power up quickly but it isn’t really a flaw and stays within the realm of logic
- I wouldn’t call this a spoiler since there’s already a tragedy tag and I don’t specify who but I’ll use a spoiler tag anyway . It’s not really a con though, just breaks my heart. Just be prepared for tragedy

Anyway I’d give it a 9/10. I might’ve given it a higher score but I know some of what I say could be bias because I just finished reading and still have enthusiasm for the book. I tried being bias-free, but I know my emotions for this novel will cool down after some time and I might see some more flaws or pros.
