After a near death experience thanks to his own mother, Jake Hollander has an adverse reaction to people, baseball, and family. His feeling of abandonment is slowly lost thanks to his foster family, The Atkins.

They take him in and change his mind about everything. He becomes more open, better at baseball, and craves for family. Slowly all wishes are granted. Collapse

Not yet, with the MC that is. He is very traumatized and the chapters to this point are heavily focused on his self improvement. However, in the most recent chapters some events may be hinting to a girl getting closer to him in the near future.

This may have been the only novel I read that made me tear up several times, that isn't focused on death, but on the character's growth, his fears and anxiety, his life, and the relief when the problem is resolved.

I suggest this! Especially if you like reading sports novels like me! It's enlightening and entertaining. Introduces you to baseball, and is a good read!

If you are interested in sports novels or not, this is one you must read. The character development has depth and growth. All the characters have a purpose, and you wouldn't be able to forget them. I have this novel about three times but, I still tear up when reading. The author does a wonderful job introducing each character to the story's plot. But, It has the slowest update rate in the world.
Above all, It is an absolute must-read.

This is a great novel, only real complaint is the glacial update pace in the last 6+ months or so.
Highly recommended for everyone but especially if you have any interest in Slice or Life and/or baseball.

This is by FAR the best webnovel in terms of character depth and growth. Nothing else comes close. I probably teared up over 10 times within the first 300 or so chapters because the author really nails how anxiety and relief feel.
On a sidenote: also the slowest novel I've read, time wise. A little over 9 months(?) in 800 or so chapters.

Overall: Absolute must read. You dont even have to understand the baseball parts, they are just the strawberry on top.
