After dying from overwork, Xu Xi transmigrates to another world invaded by a survival game.

To his shock, he gains a bizarre ability: every time he dies, he can rewind time.

Using this death-rewind power, Xu Xi repeatedly escapes danger and clears deadly dungeons—

And in the process, he accidentally becomes famous in the real world livestream audience, who mistake him for a mysterious top-tier strategist.

“How the hell did he know that would work?!”

“What’s Xu Xi planning this time? Can some big-brain explain? I’m lost, man!”

“D*mn—such unfathomable depth, meticulous thinking, and flawless execution! He’s a god!”

“He may look unremarkable, but he’s clearly pulling the strings from the shadows!”

If Xu Xi could hear their praise, he’d probably cry out in utter grievance:

“No! You’re overthinking it! I’m not a genius! Not a mastermind! Not a tactician! I just DIED for that knowledge!” Collapse

#panic# every 10 chapters or so in the MTL 3 chapters become just one large block of text with no line breaks can you fix the MTL? Is it a problem with the source RAWS? I’ll check it out and edit this message

Edit: Chinese raws have line breaks so it’s a problem with the MTL so you might have to redo it again 🙏

Edit 2: Yeah it’s getting worse and more and more often to the point of it being unreadable the amount of information per chapter is a lot so just three chapters of it makes me completely lost on what’s happening and it’s happening extremely often

The fifth sixth instance has an international instance and there's a lot of nationalism from each country's netizens but the players don't display the same level. Imagine real life sporting teams and their fans.

Very weak/slight nationalism, I wouldn't even consider it deserving of the tag.

During one of the later instances there is a sort of global competition where different players are chosen to represent their country. The nationalism kicks in there, but it is to be expected (Since the instances have been reduced to something resembling sports after appearing), hence the nationalism is around the same level as any kind of sport like football of basketball.

Basically the mc just has a basic death rewind ability that whenever he dies he returns to the beginning and included the thing that instantly made me cap the review for this novel at a 7/10 which is the FUCKING BULLET POINTS I’ve always hated this addition in novels and it is indeed garbage its actually a 5/10

It’s also an instance horror with 999 steps to a wish being able to be granted which left me interested like maybe this is like death, replay, repeat where there’s some sort of powers that the top guys have only to find out the top ranked person has only reached step 20 and the author just constantly glosses over his deaths or his findings which is the sole interesting thing about this novel so instead of finding out each death and how the mc gets over them it’s just the mc doing something and people reacting

Here it’s just constantly mc does something - bullet points and streamers thinking the mc is some god level schemer - mc going “well actually” then the author ending it with but that doesn’t matter because the mc can’t hear them - other people in the instance think same thing streamers and bullet points do - mc going well actually I already died 1000+ times - ad infinitium

The top guy was not at step 20 because you climb a certain number of steps based on difficulty. No one, including the players have any idea how far they are on the steps once they begin to climb because screw you. It is explained that those outside have no idea how to rank players so they rank them by the number of instances completed.

As I said in my comment below, this is a very unfair game.

There will be a leaderboard for everyone to see how many steps you have cleared and what rank you are in the story.
For some missions you will also 100% get item rewards from the game

There was a chapter earlier on when it was revealed that the
mentioned after I think the first or second instance in the real world on I forgot what step exactly but it was little enough that I forgot but he
it was then I was like how the f#ck is he supposed to team up with people even past step 300? Is the author gonna introduce some bullshit deus ex machina or is the author gonna pull a Sword art online and end the story before the final step 999 or is the author gonna introduce the boring trope of their being other realms also going up the 999 steps which is why I said that in the original review 🤷‍♂️ I always make my reviews after a certain amount of chapters and I remember making this review extremely early on due to my sheer disappointment but because of what you said I’ll continue to read on though I won’t make a second review

They didn't say the step, just how many instances. Quote from chapter 29.

Holy crap, holy crap! When did this happen? He went through over twenty instances, practically the most veteran player!

and that guy was only a Chinese veteran old player, so not necessarily the most outstanding one and players exist in other countries.

This game is a scam. It must have been set up by some sadistic entity that wants to slowly destroy the planet.

Average supernatural game would reward you with clearance items. But not here, oh nonono. Only a pie in the sky promise of a single wish! and that's only when you zero the game of course by passing the 999th level.

Instances let you pass multiple levels depending on the difficulty. But there isn't a counter for you to know how many levels you have passed! So for all you know, nothing is guaranteed and it's all a scam.

He knows it's 999 steps, but he couldn't see how far the steps go. The steps don't have labels, at least in the beginning. After the third instance he could only vaguely feel he moved a greater distance than after the second but he had no idea how far he actually moved. Quote from chapter 54

Xu Xi focused inward. While he still couldn't pinpoint exactly how many steps he had climbed, he had a vague sense it was more than after clearing the second instance.

After the sixth instance, when he
we learn that he has already climbed

    Finished chapter 156.
So far: good shit. Solid 7.5/10

    My only issues:
    - trial 4 is by far the weakest
    - the formatting is sometimes a bit iffy.
Usually viewer's comments will be in [] to make then recognizable, but sometimes they are in "" and in the later chapters they aren't formatted at all.
Not a big issue, but can be a bit confusing, since the comments happen randomly.
Also some minor translation inconsistencies, where the dungeon trials will have different names like trials, dungeons and instances. Especially happening to the chapter titles, which are different from the chapter contents.

Nothing too big tho, the translation overall is fine and readable. Also, even if the trials are sometimes called trials, sometimes dungeons and sometimes instances, it's still very obvious what they are talking about.

    Low-key wanna read more 😔

    Overall Rating 8⭐/10

Story The core hook is incredibly fun, it’s a brutal death game where the MC’s only cheat is a "return by death" mechanic. It starts out with him soloing trials by dying over and over until he figures out the puzzle. Since the livestream viewers don't know he's looping, they think he's just flawlessly speedrunning dungeons on his first try, which leads to some top-tier comedy. By the 4th trial, things shift into multiplayer dungeons with "checkpoints" rather than full resets. This is a massive upgrade for the tension because he can't just save-scum to keep everyone alive. If a teammate dies before a checkpoint, they're dead for real. Sometimes his blind trial-and-error even accidentally gets teammates killed, which just makes everyone else think he's a cold, calculating mastermind sacrificing people on purpose.
    My verdict is 8⭐/10

World building The setup is straightforward but effective. Death games randomly started kidnapping people one day, and the stakes are directly tied to the real world: dying pollutes your home region, while surviving cleanses it. Players are promised a "wish" if they clear enough trials to escape, though considering how easily you can get wiped out in the first five minutes, it definitely feels like a rigged scam. We don't have all the deep, overarching lore just yet, but the individual trials are highly unique and the puzzle mechanics stay fresh.
    My verdict is 7.5⭐/10

Character The MC is a breath of fresh air specifically because he's so painfully average. He doesn't have a secret 500 IQ or OP combat skills. He gets terrified, gets frustrated, makes wrong assumptions, and heavily relies on his extra lives to figure things out. The contrast between him and the veteran players—who actually notice tiny clues on the first try—is handled really well. But the best part of the cast is easily the livestream viewers. They backseat, troll, and completely mischaracterize the MC. They constantly "glaze" him as an untouchable genius, and while that joke gets a little repetitive later on, the sheer misunderstanding of this normal guy just trying not to die is great.
    My verdict is 8⭐/10

Writing The author totally nails the balance between a dark, gruesome death game and genuine comedy. The pacing is tight; whenever a specific joke or trial format starts to drag, the author is smart enough to switch up the dynamics to keep it interesting. Even when the narrative shifts to making the MC look a bit "dumb" compared to his teammates, it doesn't feel forced—it’s just a realistic take on an average guy surviving on trial and error. Best of all, the logic holds up. If something seems like a plot hole or totally unreasonable at first, the author usually drops a solid explanation for it later on.
    My verdict is 8.5⭐/10

Poison testing(Is this how this thing works?)

Anyways up until the last chapter this novel is consistent on showing the mc struggle, viewers comments and the repetition of the instance elements(Very good, it shows different styles of solution and stories of each instance, I really like the street of weeping-souls part where they show collective story in one instance)

So yeah you can definitely read this. I just hope the author can maintain this consistency cause most of these aspect tend to be forgotten and spoil my readings.

Anyway I can't wait so mtl I go!
