【A new work from the author of 'The First Order'!】

Oh, fleeting light, I offer you a cup of wine.

I know not the height of verdant mountains, nor the depth of the yellow earth.

I only witness the cold moon and warm sun, coming to slowly consume our years.

Under the nightfall of Luocheng City rides a spirited youth, whose steed’s hooves echo steadily upon cobblestone streets.

He appears like a character straight from a storyteller’s tale, descending from cascades of clouds and venturing forth into the martial world; journeying onward among verdant peaks, he watches as twilight fades into the western sky.

If one were to ask who roams eternally, untethered in this jianghu—

He would reply thus: the gentle breeze, the bright moon, and I.

Perhaps this is a long story. Please allow me to slowly narrate it.

Edit 1: Felt the need to say this but this review and most of my reviews are vague and vague on purpose due to how I do them most of them are only about information 100 chapters in so the things I can talk about are connected to things that occur or characters that appear that affect the plot a lot or just need no reason to be written in a review it’s ultimately just made as a generalized way of people to decide if they want to humor a hundred chapters to read like I did but not as a spoiler review 🙏

Review: I read past chapter 100 and I have to say this is very very good it has a power system I’ve only seen in another though it is one of those LOTM Sequence-likes with 4 revealed stages though I’m predicting 5 or 6 but it’s a 9/10 I rate it this way not out of pure greatness but by simply how satisfied I was reading it I didn’t feel any tiredness and I enjoyed the plot and characters

The main character himself is someone from modern society as revealed in chapter 1 so I won’t get too deep into it you can just check the first three chapters for that but he’s a person willing to risk his life for things he thinks is worth so, he isn’t some villain protagonist or a anti-hero since this is a Jianghu the mc is gonna kill people

The characters are nice and are constantly given new developments though instead of developments exactly it’s more just discovering different parts of every person since how he transmigrated put in him in a situation where he had to since he transmigrated into a body without any memories so he had to wade around blind while not knowing the exactness of what he should know or do finding it out himself

How the power system works is similar to another novel I read I forgot the exact name but someone might recognize it if they read further but how it works is that the amount of pathways is not exact but there are countless due to the fact that the more people cultivating the sequence the less useful it is if someone has a water scooping sequence that lets them pick up 5 ounces of water but someone else starts cultivating it as well both would only be able to pick up 2.5 ounces etcetera etcetera but it isn’t exactly called sequences

There are more I can talk about but that would just be direct spoilers since they involve later plotlines and characters but just keep in mind although not every character shows up again they pass on the relay stick to another

Holy damn. Same author as First Order and its sequel, Night's Nomenclature? Is this the third part? Or at least in the same universe? Chuck it, I'll read regardless. Goated author.

I suppose this could be a solid read if you aren't bothered by the the initial world-building. But for me the cultivation system, oddly high profile spies and teenage Sherlock Holmes mc were too much. And most of all it feels like the novel tries too much to create a world full of cruelty, betrayal, intrigue and clever schemers, to the point of feeling artificial. The vibe it gives is more shonen than seinen (which should be it's tag).

This author always has a good start to his works and a mediocre follow-up. So far, so good, at 50 chapters.

Daoist Inkdrunkwanderer's Review — The Azure Mountain (Qingshan)

This is a genuinely high-quality novel....easily better than most of what’s out there.

The story starts strong and stays engaging throughout. The main character is intelligent and composed. He may seem detached at first, but that changes over time as he gets pulled deeper into the world and its conflicts. His life initially has a somewhat calm, almost idyllic rhythm despite constant underlying danger, but when things fall apart, the shift is significant. He becomes more proactive, driven by personal stakes and responsibility.

The setting is one of the novel’s strongest points. It’s mainly based in a Ming dynasty-inspired world with wuxia elements, but it doesn’t focus on exaggerated power like splitting mountains or destroying seas. Instead, it keeps things grounded. The cultivation system is also interesting....progress slows down when too many people follow the same path, which naturally creates competition and conflict.

The story is heavily driven by politics, scheming, and survival rather than pure strength. The protagonist starts in what is essentially a dead-end situation and has to work his way out using both intelligence and strength. He’s constantly in dangerous situations, caught between factions in a decaying empire, where every move has consequences. This isn’t a story where the MC can just isolate himself and train....he has to fight for every opportunity, position, and resource.

One of the most impressive aspects is the emotional depth. The story balances tension, quiet moments, and impactful scenes very well. There are moments that make you laugh, others that make you reflect, and some that hit quite hard emotionally.

The world feels alive because it doesn’t revolve solely around the MC. Side characters are well-developed, and the plot unfolds naturally through them rather than relying on heavy exposition.

Overall, this is not a typical power fantasy. It’s a story about survival, strategy, and navigating a harsh, complex world. If you’re looking for something grounded, intelligent, and emotionally engaging, this is definitely worth reading.

    — Daoist Inkdrunkwanderer,
In narrow worlds, even survival becomes an art.
