The characters are endearing, the MC frustrating, and the Author is a sadist that likes to torture us, his readers. (Ch.166)

I'm feeling a little burnt out and frustrated by the story, and the poor translation.
Truthfully thiis is the only palatable KR Novel I've read in a while, but it still has that brain melting feeling I've come to expect from anything KR.

The mc is SOOO frustrating that and the story going to random characters that we don’t care about are the only thing holding it back, it’s such a good premise but the mc lets down the story so hard, can’t even read,

i don't know but i am at chapter 118 and i am not liking it that much as in the beginning. One problem being how much scared he is of killing ppl and blood , and like i get it ,its a normal reaction(it feels too ---SOME FEELING WHICH I DO NOT HAVE THAT WORD TO DESCRIBE) but it feels not that exciting now . there is character development and many things more which are good but I hate myself that i am not able to enjoy such good novel and i do not know why i am not liking mc at this point SO because of it i think i am leaving this novel .

and fellow daoists i have a humble request from all of you -so plz help with my request even it annoying that IF THERE is a scene or situation later in the novel which can reignite this fire in my chest to read this novel with as much as fervor as i had in the beginning PLZ TELL ME ABOUT IT ..PLZ

It might be because of the protagonist himself. I mean, everything is well thought out—the world, the characters, everything—but the protagonist falls short. I feel that being blind to women’s advances is stupid. I understood it at the beginning, but after so many chapters, it just ruins the enjoyment to see that same behavior repeat endlessly. I could understand it if it were more about self-contempt or trying to keep them at some distance from a romantic relationship because of his situation compared to theirs, but it’s always the same.

Second, he goes around in circles too much about whether to run away or not, with his indecision and also his bad choice regarding martial arts. My head just keeps thinking, “Wow, what an idiot.” How is he not going to learn some martial arts for self-defense, when he knows that in that world there are no laws, everyone carries weapons, and you decide to trust that everything will be fine? Honestly, it feels badly planned. He doesn’t have to fight or go after super treasures like a typical protagonist—he just has to learn to defend himself, or even more importantly, just to run. But well, that’s how I see it…

That’s why the story feels heavy to me because of its protagonist. In everything else, it seems incredible to me, especially its way of writing the BDSM sections, the fact that the “heart demons” are mental problems, and that freeing yourself from pressure is the best way to keep them under control—or, well, if you want, you can also let yourself be carried away by them. It also seems like they show themselves in different ways: with the Emei girl through murder, but with the Tang clan girl through envy and greed. Even so, I’ll keep reading the work. To be honest, the protagonist annoys me, but for now he’s tolerable.

and this reply was the emboidment of my all uncomfortable feelings which i had about this novel.

bro, you articulated all my thoughts so well that i am just amazed . I fully agree with all your points -the MC as a character is too bad and annoying that it affects the reading experience of the readers like us in a very bad way or else this novel would have been just perfect.

and one more thing-plz pay some attention to my humble request which i made in my review.

This novel does things to me. I love the characters and yes, for the first time in a long time, i support harem route. Im getting slightly irritated by mcs denseness but i can forgive it since its very little and the circumstances kind of force him. I will reread Nana to kaoru until new chapters pile up.

You can use the mtl here..or you can use other websites (won't recommend it as it's korean. If it was chinese or something I had options that I could have suggested...but alas). Try our website, you can tweak the effects here and there (addition of prompts and stuff) and you can get good translation.

The original MTL that once existed online was removed or disappeared at times, likely due to copyright takedowns. The thing is there aren’t any widely shared human translations....only MTL or partial fan efforts.

          Best sources for machine translation:
AsianReads — easier to read live MTL.
          Novelhall.com — user-uploaded chapters with MTL.

I would say try Asianreads. Best user-friendly MTL you can read online

          fyi....Asianreads is paid...soo beware.

Martial Arts Masochist — When Survival Is Psychological, Not Martial

This scripture walks into the martial world wearing the wrong robe.....and that is precisely why it survives.

Martial Arts Masochist begins with a premise that sounds familiar enough to lull veterans into complacency: a modern man reincarnates into a wuxia novel he has already read. He knows the future. He knows the villains. He knows the tragedies. And unlike the usual fools who try to “optimize destiny,” his conclusion is refreshingly sane:

Do not touch the plot. Do not touch the heroes. Sell leather. Live.

    For a time, he succeeds.

He becomes a nameless village craftsman, mingles with beggars and lowfolk, avoids sect politics, avoids cultivation, avoids ambition. In a genre obsessed with ascension, this deliberate mediocrity is almost heretical. But fate, as always, finds a way....specifically through Cheongwol, the so-called Millennium Flower of a righteous sect, a woman destined to collapse under sanctified pressure and bloom into a calamity.

This is where the novel reveals its true nature.

This is not a power fantasy.
This is not a heroic reform narrative.
This is not a battle-focused martial epic.

It is a psychological survival story. chad

The protagonist does not fight Cheongwol.
He does not correct her destiny.
He does not out-scheme the martial world.

    He manages her. smirk

Armed with nothing but cowardice, acute emotional awareness, and an unsettlingly precise understanding of dominance, dependence, and emotional regulation, he navigates encounters where a single misstep equals death. Their interactions are not flirtation, nor seduction, nor romance in the traditional sense....they are high-tension psychological chess matches, where words, tone, timing, and restraint matter more than fists. crimson

Cheongwol is the novel’s greatest success. She is not a caricature villain nor a hollow femme fatale. The cracks in her composure.....her suffocating expectations, her internal collapse, her creeping reliance.....are rendered with uncomfortable clarity. She is terrifying not because she is cruel, but because she is fragile in a world that worships perfection. clap

Much discussion surrounds the novel’s use of SM as a core metaphor and mechanism, and here this daoist will be precise:

This is not a 19+ indulgence piece.
    This is not mechanical eroticism.
This is not “stimulus → release” writing. fbi_open_up

It is a 15+ psychological exploration of control, consent, escalation, and dependency.....handled with surprising seriousness. The author clearly understands that real dominance is preparation, restraint, and responsibility, and that submission is not humiliation but choice. The focus is on mental thresholds, emotional reliance, and the gradual lowering of internal defenses, not explicit acts. gosling2

In spirit, it resembles works like Nana to Kaoru.....but transplanted into a collapsing wuxia morality system.

That said, this novel is not for everyone.

    Readers expecting:
    - an overpowered protagonist,
    - righteous crusades,
    - decisive destiny-rewriting,
    - explicit erotic payoff,
    - or large-scale martial domination

should turn back at the mountain gate.

    The protagonist remains physically weak.
He does not “outplay the heavens.
His original knowledge does not become a cheat engine.
And the story progresses through unease, not triumph. cry

But for readers tired of reincarnators who conquer worlds with meta-knowledge and brute force....this is a rare deviation. The pacing is controlled, the comedy dry and situational, the tension persistent rather than explosive. It is less about victory, more about endurance. old

This is not a tale of cultivation.
It is a tale of containment.

And in a genre addicted to excess, restraint itself becomes subversive. leocheers
