Welcome to the Hell Game.

[Entering Instance: Bloody Restaurant]

[The position you applied for is: Delivery Guy]

[Your clients include: a fat shut-in who reeks of corpses, a maid who explodes at the slightest provocation…]

[Your coworkers include: a stunningly beautiful boss who doesn’t look human, literal livestock, and a man-eating tree that spews French curses…]

Faced with these absolute freaks, Liu Zheng, who just wanted to be a decent person, had no choice but to stop being one. Collapse

    Quote: MTL Ancestor
Damn man, show some anger, you are making me feel bad.

Besides that, how do you translate novels? Maybe I can think of a better way that won't butcher the story.

Well, read the mtl, the translation is shit

This review (debunk) contains severe insight into TheInkDrunkWanderer's current psyche. And sorry for taking so long to review (debunk) it as I was actually reading the mtl of this novel.

Review(debunk): TheInkDrunkWanderer's review of Hell Game: Starting from the Metropolis by (Baozou de Jiuping)

Using information up to Chapter 712 (latest MTL release by Ranobes, late 2025)

    The Story So Far
At its heart is Liu Zheng (the protag), a humble courier whose routine city life mutates into a “Hell Game” folding layers of supernatural logic over modern reality. Each stage..or “instance”...forces him to survive grotesque environments while dissecting moral boundaries. The early “Bloody Restaurant” arc sets the tone: a tense, darkly comic miniature of service-industry hell where the rules are both literal and karmic. Readers praised it for its cinematic pacing and bleak wit. (From the chapter comments that i translated said so~ )

    1. Liu Zheng (now to be mentioned as the MC) was not a humble courier before Hell Game (now to be mentioned as HG).

    2. There is no folding layers of supernatural logic over modern reality.

    3. There are no other stage, well mostly except one exception, other than Metropolis.

From there, Liu Zheng’s journey transforms into a case study in adaptive amorality. The “Sin Mark” system rewards cunning over compassion, and the protagonist’s descent mirrors the moral corrosion of survival itself. His slow realization...that empathy is a liability...anchors the novel’s central paradox: to stay human, one must first stop acting human.

    4. There is no "Sin Mark" system that rewards cunning over compassion.

By the third act, the narrative scales up from claustrophobic terror to systemic apocalypse. Corporate empires weaponize Hell’s energy, NPCs infiltrate urban life, and the line between game and world erodes completely. Later arcs such as “Greed Bank” and “Lust Cinema” introduce deity-like entities born from human vices, pushing the novel into theological and psychological horror. As of the current “Jinzi Clan” segment (Ch. 471–648), Hell has become its own ecosystem of politics, consumption, and grotesque satire—where even cuisine can reincarnate souls.

    5. There is no third act.

    6. There is no claustrophobic terror.

    7. There is no systemic apocalypse.

    8. There is no Hell in Metropolis (only a cemetery that ranks greater than hell), thus no Hell's energy, and hence no weaponisation.

    9. No NPCs infiltrate urban life.

    10. We don't yet know the state of the earth, but it's most likely fine from what we know (still supernatural).

    11. There is no Greed bank.

    12. There is no Lust cinema.

    Strengths and Appeal
What sets Hell Game apart is its inventive rulecraft. Each instance functions less as a battlefield and more as a riddle box built from logic, irony, and fear. Liu Zheng’s moral grayness, combined with the author’s flair for black humor, makes for a rare survival narrative...one that’s intellectually charged yet viscerally uncomfortable.

    13. There is no inventive rulecraft.

    14. There is no other instance as the MC is still on his first one, only deliveries could be considered something similar.

    Weak Points
The series isn’t flawless. The middle arcs show fatigue through repetitive survival structures, and the grand meta-mystery of the Hell Game remains only half-explained even at chapter 648. Readers craving romance or emotional grounding will find none here...only grit, irony, and a gradually dehumanized protagonist. Extreme violence and psychological cruelty also make it unsuitable for the faint-hearted.

    15. There is no explanation about HG.

    16. The MC is known by some as The Succubus of metropolis (only his boss calls him that), though he has yet not done it.

    Comparisons and Themes
Fans of My House of Horrors and Soul of Negary will feel at home here. Like those works, Hell Game merges metaphysical dread with human disillusionment. Its central themes....survival versus morality, the commodification of life, and the erosion of identity...form a chilling commentary on modern existence.

    Verdict
By Chapter 648, Hell Game: Starting from the Metropolis has matured into a Cthulhu-meets-Kafka survival epic. It’s grotesque, bizarrely funny, and philosophically unsettling...a world where horror is logic, and logic itself is the punchline. For readers seeking creativity in the horror-game genre, this stands among the sharpest and strangest works on the Chinese web. meme_9

    16. There is almost no horror or terror, mostly dark humor, disgusting stuff, emotions, and tragedy.

    Verdict
Terrible, the writer shall be forbidden from ever again communing with the thousand faces and thousand voiced sage and they shall have their alcohol(novel) drinking right taken away.

    Overall Rating : 3.8/10
This is so because the A.I. got some things right and I wanna keep the parody going.

I will apologise. I didn't knew it was wrong? I apologise cause i didn't intend to spread wrong information...last time it happend to me in another novel and a user helped me identify. Sorry, I tried to convert the languages using that....and yes as english is not my first. But if it's wrong then I will delete my review. Thank you once again. But do help me with reviews because whatever I write gets turned over. And I'm not fluent in English.

Ps. I have this account in qidian. Do you know any ways to translate? Other than using AI? I'm in dire need if what I give out is totally wrong. Sorry for taking your time. It was never my intention.

No need to apologize so much, just don't use A.I. and don't review books you haven't read personally.

If a couple more of similar incidents happen people will grow suspicious and stop trusting you.

I totally understand. It was my mistake. You see english is hard for me. Where I come from ...english is like 3rd or 4th prioritized language. And now imagine about the Novel that are chinese or japanese. Though i would like to state that yes, I did read the novel..yes till 600 chaps....but before you humble brother jump me, please listen. The novels that are in another language, I translate them to My mother tongue for me to understand better because English is hard to understand. And when u get there to translate all those chapters one by one to my language, some stuff gets turned over.

And it also makes me emotionally drained. Now because of what you quoted down, I was deeply hurt (please don't jump me again...just honest thought 😞) ... because I translated every chapter, it took like a month or something for me (in my language). Now when you brother, wrote line by line, that everything I wrote was utter nonsense I was shocked. I was questioning myself of this. I didn't knew what to do and was in hysterics. Once again I would apologise. But brother ancestor, a humble request. I will try to do genuine review again and if by chance you come across them, can you message me personally or just comment them down there. If it's wrong I will delete that review. But brother, please don't write line by line quoting the review. Its shocking and sorrowful for me because whatever I wrote was with the help of tools(grammarly or AI) cause English was never my first.

Brother, please be kind to me next time and I would do better next time.

Thank you. Have great day ahead.

Screenshot and translate to my mother tongue, but if I get time I copy line by line and use Chatgpt. Now I have bought perplexity pro to translate but even that's showing some bugs, but I'm ok with that because of "Unlimited uses". I think its my mother tongue's issue, Because after translating the review written in my language to a review in English... shit happens :)

A.I. likes to... Improve things, you can ask it to translate exactly as it is without any addon.

You can also try to select all, copy, and then paste in something like google translate, my go to choice.

Not my cup of tea. Felt a bit too forced as if the mc goes along with everyone planned for him. Usually isn’t a problem for me but here the mc lacks a bit of depth I see with other mcs making it seem more like plot rather than him choosing to do so

She extended her pale, tender right foot, resting it on the table.

From Liu Zheng's angle, it was just a hair's breadth from seeing the deepest secrets.
