[Fog Apocalypse]+[Farming Survival]+[Cthulhu Style]

When Colin woke up, a gray mist had descended. The only sanctuary was the wooden cabin, where he woke up. To survive, he needed to light candles, push open the door, and look for supplies.

[Mutants]+[Suffering People]+[Sea Monsters]+[Fallen Sky]+[Ancient Rulers]

Everyone was doing everything they could to gather resources, chop wood, mine, and build to defend against endless, terrifying invasions.

In the midst of this never-ending terror and despair, Colin discovered he could receive “hints.” Collapse

I may be wrong, but I think the mc has a god complex, and the constant bootlicking is makes me want to drop this, and never give it another try. Everything in the story exists only to praise the mc (players/system/leaderboard/global chat/local chat/his slaves...), or to be exploited ONLY by the mc, example: (out of billions of players only the mc has a river beside him to sell the water)

Okay… he doesn’t have a god complex and it’s a bit more than that the Mc simply uses what’s around him because of his cheat that immensely helps him to do stuff you can see later how the Mc isn’t the only one growing they just don’t have the ability to know what to do with the Mc this is a completely new terrifying eldritch horror of a world and nobody knows what to do but they are still catching up maybe they do have a river next to them but is it pure water? Do they know how to purify water? Do they even think of selling water? Not everyone is as shameless as the mc (sorry for it being so long lol)

Just finished the book (though I skimmed the last 20 chapters).

If 10/10 would be a perfect novel, TLM for me would be a 8-9/10 (due to certain flaws) and the average trash CN would be below 5/10. I give this novel a 6-7/10.

Let's talk about the good parts:

    1. It's a Global Game-themed novel. These kinds of novels have quite interesting premises.
    2. It has a proper "anti"-system premise where actual logic is used.
    3. To a certain extent the MC behaves logically but when he doesn't it is clear the author is holding him back.
    4. The whole backstory of the novel is quite refreshing.
    5. The author did try to reduce Chinese Nationalism.

    Now the bad:

    1. Even though the author tried to reduce Chinese Nationalism he kind of failed. He even admits that past the 1st volume, the writing quality weakens. So, despite trying to give other characters non-Chinese names, they still behave like Chinese nationalists.
    2. I will never understand why Chinese people have to hold their culture to a pedestal in order to feel proud of their nationality. Chopsticks must be the most amazing utensil (it isn't). You need to use specific spices in order for food to taste good. You have blind trust in someone who uses the same utensils as you (the mini-arc where they go to the living dead area). The only important people are Chinese. The only "good" "foreigners" are females who are potential love interests for the MC.
    2. Many plots were left uncompleted because the author was too rushed to finish the story. He could have easily written 700 more chapters and the plot pacing would have been more smooth.
    3. The same problem with any extraordinary power novel. Individuals hold far more capabilities whether physical or mental compared to normal humans but they behave like normal humans. For instance, the MC is already an extraordinary individual with a divine nature (source of light) and he somehow doesn't understand advanced math. This is such a cliche excuse that becomes more idiotic the more I see it. When you have a mini computer in your head maths isn't an issue. At that point, you don't even need to understand the underlying principle. Just use the equations. On the same note just because someone acquires power, the power doesn't make him inhumane. He already had inhumane values/characteristics. He just didn't have the power to enact on them. Or more simply those inhumane values are the objective truth.

Although there is still a lot of room for improvement, I believe this novel is worth a read. Definitely a huge improvement compared to normal fast food CN.

Just to make sure, are you telling me that for you TLM is an 8.5 and this is a 6.5? In another order, have you read LOTM (Lord of the Mysteries)? A Chinese novel that hardly seems to have been written by a Chinese person.

I was able to read up to 90 or so, but honestly, I can't do it anymore, for too many things:
First of all, nationalism, there is a lot of it, all the difficulty and mystery is non-existent due to the MC's golden finger, it's basically a deus ex machine whenever the author wants, except for the MC, the rest of the people seem to have severe mental retardation, and everything is accommodated to the MC's will, by the work and grace of the author, not to mention the ton and a half of cliches, for example, a girl appears, she is clearly useless and is going to be madly interested in the MC, a bad guy appears, who is clearly very bad, and wants to steal the girl to rape her, but he is also dumb, I am also bored by the fact that the secondary characters are rather unnecessary, I mean, they are all unnecessary compared to the MC, they are just there, their importance, personality, charisma, development, is non-existent. And finally, all that big brother, help me stuff, which after 2 minutes turns into "I'll give my life for you, and I'll kill anyone who slanders you."
Anyway, for me it's the typical Chinese novel, with an interesting setting and premise, which it doesn't know how to exploit at all.

if you like this type of mystery setting, Deep Sea Embers and LOTM, they do it 100 times better.

Tbh as a genre I like Global Games.

Unfortunately, most authors who write them are dog shit. I have also started to really hate Chinese nationalism. They can only feel proud of their country so long as other countries appear worse than theirs.

The last global game-ish novel that I remember that was worth anything was the one about Demon Planters. Although it had some flaws it was definitely a hidden gem.

I fully support. I can only list a couple with a normal plot, this is a 100 chance of falling, my undead have a 100 increase, my troops mutated (the end is leaked)

My troops mutated was definitely good. Unfortunately the ending was kinda ass.

The 100% chance of drops was dogshit. The MC's intelligence was in the single digits.

the only one i can wholeheartedly reccomend is Global Game: AFK In The Zombie Apocalypse Game

All the others global games i've read are between "okayish i can enjoy the novel but will forget all about it in 1 month max" and "this trash is so trash that even my trash taste can't keep reading this trash"

This novel could be great but it is just fine, the cheat just kill 90% of the fun from a suspense novel. The author is trying to merge to different genres but I don't believe he is doing a good work

Exactly for a Horror Cthulhu type thing, the "Hints" make everything not as suspenseful or scary. Like imagine knowing exactly what is in what direction.... If the MC was actually going around slowly traversing the Fog while hiding from terrifying beings which can't step into the light then it would be something fun to read.

It's Like global demon king but the Mc isn't that overly op. He is still op but still acceptable. This time there is some struggle on the mc's side but not that much. There also some fear of the unknown type horror but the execution is not the best. Aside from these differences everything is the same.

Conclusion: a novel to pass time but nothing more.

Being honest, the writing level of these ‘global game’ type stories is usually, pretty trash tier. We read them anyway since they can be entertaining (at least at the start). This one also had bit of a dodgy start, but I can easily say it’s one of the best of this type. For one, there is some actual world building, the MC is actually challenged and writing isn’t superficial and generally low level.

But this is all based on the low bar of this genre in general. Otherwise quite a bit of dodgy decision making by MC, sometimes with info we have no idea about. MC, who we don’t get any background info about is one of those ‘competent’ at most things type, one who don’t have any real weakness etc.

And while the story is progressing, the world balancing also gives a definite feeling of grim dark with no hope for anyone else other than MC tbh. But this might just be part of the overall plot/world building we have no idea about which is fair.

Overall, a good read, especially for its sub-genre, but to me, it feels like it’s relying on too much ‘no hope’ style shenanigans for horror, but it is trying, so that something I guess…
