Regis knows it's an illusion. He's only ever seen Princess Charlotte from afar; only heard her voice when she spoke to a crowd. Sure he's good at reading people, but he knows she of all people will be wearing a perfect mask.

The problem is he's in love with the illusion, and it's not going away.

So he strikes out on a quest: win the fighting tournament held every year, where she gives out the prize, and hypothetically—just hypothetically—he can forfeit the monetary winnings and instead ask for a week to be close to her, to get to know the real her, and break the illusion once and for all.     It's decent. Definitely worth the read as it's so short. The dialogue is quite good, which is important given that it occupies most of the text. The characters aren't annoying and not in a forced way, but you can still tell the author was trying desperately to make sure that was the case (desperately is probably a bit too strong). All in all, pretty good welldone

    Author's note on RR, but it was 3 years ago. Also mentioned that they don't release anything they're not satisfied with, so who knows if/when we'll see it. peepo002
    Hopefully this doesn’t feel like too abrupt of an ending. As I’ve explained in the author’s note of the first chapter, it’s a short(ish) story, and a prequel to a larger work.

    For anyone who enjoyed this little book and would like the larger book that canonically follows—first of all, thank you! Second, I’m sorry to disappoint you, but it won’t be coming for a while. I, uh, actually only posted this one because it was finished, not because the entire series it’s a part of is finished. Since that has several books, and not only am I only through a few drafts of any of them, but some have yet to be written at all, and my longer books tend to clock in at 120,000 words at the smallest, it’ll be a while. If you want to be notified when I'm posting a new book in the series, my current plan is to add a chapter to R+C, so following this story is probably the most sure-fire way.
