A naturally timid engineering student found himself transported to France before the grand revolution, only to become the older brother of the future Emperor Napoleon for some inexplicable reason.

Now, he faced a crucial decision: would he seize this opportunity to create his own remarkable destiny or merely cling to this lifeline and drift along? Collapse

    This novel is slow AF.
The protagonist has no grand aspiration and doesn't use his tremendous future hindsight to quickly rise to prominence (despite the early chapters suggested it to be his plan)
He's simply playing his role as a chess piece for bigger political figures while the general history flows just as original despite of his involvement in this timeline.
In fact, a lot of the focus in this story is on the political figures' actions that has little relation to the protagonist.
The beginning part simply retells the French Revolution with marginal difference brought by the protagonist, but nothing significant.

Also, weird that Napoleon is somehow a scientific savant in this timeline with military aspiration from the get go whereas originally he was supposed to be a gloomy young man growing up more into literatures. His initial life aspiration should have been to be an established author and he wrote several wish-fulfillment radical-politically charged stories before he caught the eye of someone in the Jacobin that helped him rise in the military.

I get it. My country shows up in books, movies, and TV shows from time to time. It seems like people don't put in the effort to do the slightest bit of research before writing about it, lol

Not fun at all. there is no point reading this since basically MC was not too important character at all in French revolution.
Well for some reader who like "real" MC who just like ordinary man, this one is good read. Slow pace and mc just normal, timid, and so cautious. This no wonder that the novel is not so popular like other historical novel.

Where are these others? The only cool thing that doesn't undermine its own logic is "The Mad Tycoon of Rome" even the one from the Mediterranean had to mock Rome because he didn't want ease (so why did he improve his kingdom so much?) and we won't say anything about the "Sacred Roman Empire" mc has an advantage in plot and social position, but his empire can only survive crises, never increasing its national power, everything he has done so far has been to stabilize what he already has, the only historical novel What I I liked so far was “my German empire” (even if half of the content was wiki material), this one just won't get likes because it has no ambition, it will let the runt take the French throne anyway, since it's just meant to be an invincible general, in political matters and long-term vision and shit.

Lolz my german empire is suck, if you look at ww2 themed. "Iron Cross" is way better. Also there is "Struggle in Soviet Union" for the cold War era. there are "Dutch 1861", "first American president", Romania theme, Bulgaria theme, Spanish theme, Sudan theme, turki theme, Azerbaijan theme, (which i forget the title since I read it long time ago).

And you said HRE didn't increase national power? Are you kidding or you ignorant toward history of Germany pre ww1? Are you forget how strong French and British fleet during pre dreadnought era? How could mc just casually pushing Austria national power when clearly there is still strong UK who keep fcking his ass in Europe mainland. And French too.

Also please don't mention any korean historical novel, there is no point doing so. Because if you said mad Tycoon from korean novel is good historical fiction then might as well you said Tyrant of Steel is good historical fiction. No point arguing 👌

Harry Turtledove is the only author to do decent alternate history. He did "Between the Rivers" about the dawn of civ in Sumeria, others about a fantasy world with dragons and wizards that mirrored WW2, alternative American Civil War (Sherman took command, and with Grant and Lee took Canada, freed occupied Ireland, and conquered Britain), an alien invasion series during the height of WW2, an ice age series, alternate Byzantium series and with a wayward Roman cohort sent to that world, ect. The guy must be ancient now if he hasn't already passed away. I've dozens of his books since I was a teen, and I'm old myself now.

Glenn Cook was another author known for being able to get into the mind of a soldier, his "Black Company" is classic fantasy, and his sci fi books are amazing (wrote Garrett P.I. also). I think I started reading his Black Company in the early 80s.

Morgan Llywelyn and her Celtic books - Bard, about Cuchulain, ect. Kenneth Flint was similar but inferior.

How pathetic. You'd think if you were emperor you'd deserve a loyal woman. How pathetic he tolerated such a cheater near him, he must have been the joke of Europe at the time. The biggest simp. someone should have slapped him - "little fellow, let Lao Tzu teach you how to deal with a woman who cheats on you". Wall her up somewhere.

That's why you don't ever, EVER date a promiscous woman. She is unable to pair bond with you. Got to have a woman with preferably zero body count, or as low as possible.
