Chapter 920: Jingran Small Shop

Yi Jiao's reply stirred a feeling of displeasure in Xue Jie. He had been too polite in front of Yang Haoran earlier, and although that politeness was merely a pretense, not genuine courtesy, it still left a stifling feeling in his heart. Thus, facing Yi Jiao now, he no longer wished to be polite.

“I am very dissatisfied with your answer. I'll give you one chance: answer me again,” Xue Jie said in a deep voice.

Yi Jiao was startled. Anxious internally, she could only quickly blurt out a random question to avoid provoking Xue Jie's anger.

“Well. . . could the disappearance of the two Demon Hunter masters be related to Yang Haoran? ”

Although this was merely a question Yi Jiao had blurted out in haste, it was one that greatly pleased Xue Jie.

However, Xue Jie did not show his satisfaction on his face. Instead, he began to lecture Yi Jiao.

“How could you ask such a low-level question? Yang Haoran has only been an Underworld agent for a few short years. In front of me, he's like an ant, and in front of the two Demon Hunter masters, he wouldn't even count as an ant. What makes you think the disappearance of the two Demon Hunter masters has anything to do with him? What right does he have to be connected to this matter? ”

Yi Jiao, who had just opened her mouth, was so intimidated by Xue Jie's tirade that she immediately fell silent again, not daring to speak.

“Speak up! Why are you mute again! ” Seeing Yi Jiao close her mouth once more, Xue Jie, still not satisfied, rebuked her again.

“I. . . what should we do now? ” Yi Jiao asked, her face showing panic, hurrying to speak.

Xue Jie shook his head with a look of helplessness, gazing at Yi Jiao as if she were an idiot.

“It seems next time I hit you, I shouldn't hit your head. Otherwise, I worry that sooner or later, I'll beat you into an imbecile. What to do next, heh, you actually managed to ask such a low-level question. I'm truly impressed. Of course, next, we continue searching for the two Demon Hunter masters. Does that even need asking? ”

This time, Yi Jiao did not fall silent again, for she dared not.

“Then should we continue searching in Lecheng, or go to other cities to look? ” Yi Jiao asked.

“Of course, we're heading to the surrounding cities to look. What would we do staying here? ” Xue Jie answered Yi Jiao's question, then retorted with one of his own.

“Are we not going to deal with that snake demon? ” Yi Jiao asked.

“Why bother with her? While she is indeed a powerful demon, can a single powerful demon contend with two Three-Star Demon Hunters? Moreover, the demonic power of a demon is suppressed by our Star Spirit Power. If she were to face the two Demon Hunter masters, she would die in an instant. Even if you include Yang Haoran, that Underworld agent, it would be no exception; both would be instantly pulverized, leaving not a trace. Therefore, the disappearance of the two Demon Hunter masters certainly has nothing to do with this snake demon. Since it's unrelated, why would we bother with her? ”

Speaking to this point, Xue Jie paused slightly, then let out a cold snort, and continued.

“If she didn't have Yang Haoran, that Underworld agent, backing her, I wouldn't mind killing her on the side and taking her Demon Pill. But this time, I'm solely focused on completing my mission and don't want to create any extra complications, so she's lucky. Otherwise, a mere Lecheng Administrative Courtyard couldn't stop me, Xue Jie. If I wanted to kill one of their Spirit Police captains, what could they do to me? ”

Yi Jiao hastily nodded in agreement, assenting to Xue Jie's statement.

“Of course. How could a small Lecheng Administrative Courtyard possibly stop you? Destroying an administrative courtyard of that level would be as easy as flipping your hand for you. ”

Yi Jiao's flattery delighted and pleased Xue Jie greatly. His mood instantly brightened as he smiled smugly, then strode forward.

Seeing this, Yi Jiao quickly followed. Gazing at Xue Jie's retreating back, Yi Jiao's expression immediately turned cold, her eyes filled with the light of hatred.

Xue Jie actually left Lecheng with Yi Jiao just like that, which came as a surprise to Yang Haoran. He had thought that Xue Jie would probably cause trouble in Lecheng for a while longer, refusing to give up until he found some clues, but he hadn't done so.

Of course, when Yang Haoran learned this news, he was a little surprised, but also somewhat puzzled. However, with a little thought, he probably guessed why Xue Jie would leave Lecheng.

He didn't have the inclination or the time to prove whether his guess was correct. In any case, it was a fact that Xue Jie and Yi Jiao had left Lecheng, which was a good thing for him. As for anything else, he couldn't be bothered.

Several days later, Old Master Wu awoke from his coma. The potent poison in his body had been completely expelled by Feng Xiao. Although his body was still very weak after waking up, as long as the toxins were gone, recovering to his peak state was only a matter of time.

Physical weakness could be swiftly recovered from, but the recovery from spiritual wounds was a far more protracted affair. Wu Junior's Soul Transformation was a massive blow to Old Master Wu, and it would be incredibly difficult for him to move past it.

In response, Yang Haoran could only offer solace; he had no other recourse. After all, Wu Junior's soul had dispersed; even if Yang Haoran wanted to help Wu Junior come back to life, it would be impossible. At least within his known sphere of knowledge, he had never heard of anyone being revived after Soul Transformation.

When Xue Jie and Yi Jiao had first arrived in Lecheng, Yang Haoran had worried that Wu Junior might become an opening for these two Demon Hunters. Thus, he had wanted Old Master Wu to place Wu Junior under house arrest for a period, to prevent him from attracting major trouble.

After meeting Old Master Wu, when they mentioned Wu Junior, Old Master Wu still verbally called Wu Junior a spendthrift and a good-for-nothing. However, the look of "hating iron for not becoming steel" that had once been on Old Master Wu's face was gone; in its place was relief.

It was then that Yang Haoran changed his mind. He realized that confining Wu Junior would also inadvertently wound Old Master Wu. So, he devised a plan: recall Wu Senior, Wu Junior, and Wu Xiaoxiao, all three of them, and have them stay at the villa to read and study. This way, Wu Junior could legitimately remain in the villa without causing emotional distress.

Once Xue Jie and Yi Jiao, those two Demon Hunters, left Lecheng due to a lack of findings, the three would have presumably read many books and gained considerable knowledge. At that point, he would conduct an assessment for them. If they passed, they could enter the shop he intended to open in the mortal realm. If they failed, they could either apply to withdraw or continue studying until they passed the assessment.

However, this plan hadn't yet been implemented. He had just arranged for Old Master Wu to have the three return to the villa and hadn't even had time to contact them when something happened to Wu Junior.

He had considered whether Wu Junior's death might have been the work of Xue Jie or Yi Jiao, as there had been some conflict between their parties at the time. However, this speculation was hard to uphold in his view, because Xue Jie and Yi Jiao were Demon Hunters, while the person who wanted to kill him was clearly someone from the Underworld Office.

Furthermore, on the day he met Xue Jie, he had carefully observed Xue Jie's words and actions. From the situation at the time, he hadn't noticed anything amiss, so he believed this matter should have no relation to Xue Jie.

A month later, Old Master Wu gradually emerged from his grief. Although he would occasionally still stare blankly or shake his head and sigh, his condition was much better than when he had first woken up.

Wu Senior and Wu Xiaoxiao, the father and daughter, had not left the villa during this month, spending their entire days reading within it. When Yang Haoran felt the time was right, he conducted an assessment for the two of them.

Wu Senior didn't possess Gu Yi's abnormal memory and learning abilities, but his capabilities in this regard were quite good, satisfying Yang Haoran. Thus, he naturally passed the assessment.

In contrast, Wu Xiaoxiao was far behind. However, Yang Haoran hadn't placed too much hope on her to begin with, so there was naturally no disappointment.

While Wu Xiaoxiao was far behind Wu Senior, it didn't mean she was useless. On the contrary, she had learned a great deal of knowledge over the past month. Although she couldn't handle the position of a shop manager, she was absolutely more than capable of being a shop assistant.

After both passed the assessment, Yang Haoran's shop in the mortal realm also successfully opened for business. He no longer used the name of his old sundry shop; instead, just like the apothecary in the Underworld, he used the characters "Jingran," naming it "Jingran Small Shop."

Besides these matters, many other things happened during this month. One of them was the Ancheng Administrative Courtyard sending people to find Yang Haoran and extend an olive branch.
