Chapter 897: Stubborn as a Cooked Duck

The woman was incredibly fast, but Yang Haoran was faster still. The instant she drew near him, before she even had a chance to make a move, Yang Haoran clamped a hand around her neck.

A searing pain erupted from her neck. She felt as though Yang Haoran's hand was about to snap it clean off. Gasping for air, her face instantly contorted, a look of utter shock. She had never imagined Yang Haoran's speed could be so immense, nor had she ever thought he would actually dare to make a move!

She didn't recognize Yang Haoran, but judging by the attitudes of the others present towards him, she knew his identity was far from simple.

However, this so-called "not simple" status was, in her opinion, confined solely to Lecheng. To her, Lecheng was nothing more than a remote, backwater town. No matter how much "status" its inhabitants might possess, they were, at best, frogs at the bottom of a well, utterly oblivious to the greater world beyond.

She believed that if Yang Haoran possessed even a shred of common sense, he wouldn't dare lay a hand on her, lest he invite insurmountable trouble, or even a deadly catastrophe.

But to her utter astonishment, not only did Yang Haoran show no inclination to refrain from retaliating, he actually moved faster than her, seizing her by the neck and lifting her entire body as effortlessly as an eagle snatches a chick.

In her desperation, she immediately summoned her Lifebound Demon Armament to launch an attack against Yang Haoran.

Strapped to the woman's back was a longsword, still sheathed. This very sword was her Lifebound Demon Armament.

The moment her mind stirred, a sword hummed to life. The demon armament longsword shot skyward, enveloped in Star Spirit Power, and slashed down towards the arm Yang Haoran used to grip her neck.

The sword strike was sudden, and its extreme speed made it impossible to guard against. Yet, just as the blade was about to cleave into Yang Haoran's arm, two fingers suddenly clamped down on the longsword.

These two fingers, naturally, did not belong to the woman, but to Yang Haoran.

The longsword vibrated violently between Yang Haoran's two fingers, desperate to break free from his control. But no matter how fiercely it struggled, it could not escape his grasp.

This sight left the woman utterly aghast. She had never in her wildest dreams imagined Yang Haoran possessed such power. She hadn't even clearly perceived how he had struck, yet her demon armament was already clamped effortlessly between his two fingers.

“Heh heh, no wonder you’re so arrogant,” Yang Haoran scoffed. “So, you’re a two-star Demon Hunter. But judging by your power, you must have only recently broken through to that level. To be so conceited with such meager strength. . . it’s quite a display of not knowing the immensity of heaven and earth. Remember to visit a hospital later; your brain likely has some issues. ”

At the woman's brow, two tiny Star Seals were clearly visible. These two Star Seals were enough to confirm her realm: she was a two-star Demon Hunter.

However, judging by the power fluctuations emanating from her, Yang Haoran estimated that she had probably only recently broken through to the two-star Demon Hunter realm. Compared to even moderately capable two-star Demon Hunters, her strength was still far too lacking.

It wasn't just that the woman had only recently broken through to the two-star Demon Hunter realm; even if she were a peak two-star Demon Hunter, in front of Yang Haoran, she would be no different from an ant. Regrettably, she remained oblivious to this fact, still under the delusion that her strength was comparable to Yang Haoran’s, or perhaps even superior.

As Yang Haoran's words faded, his two fingers, still clamping the longsword, gave a gentle flick. The sword was instantly sent flying, embedding itself deeply into a nearby wall.

The woman believed this was the end; Yang Haoran would surely release her at once.

Not only did she think this, but everyone else present held the same assumption. After all, escalating the situation would benefit no one. Yet, they were all mistaken.

“I’d like to take a look inside the meeting room,” Yang Haoran said. “But it seems there’s a barrier formation here. So, I’ll have to trouble you to help me out. ”

Yang Haoran said with a smile. The reason he was so sure there was a barrier formation around the meeting room was that he couldn't hear any sounds from inside, even when standing right at the entrance.

Furthermore, the woman had already exchanged blows with him outside, yet no one had emerged from within. This indicated that the barrier formation could not only isolate all sound, but also all power fluctuations. Those outside the barrier could not perceive what was happening inside, and similarly, those inside could not sense what was unfolding outside.

The woman hadn't yet fully grasped the meaning of Yang Haoran's words when his arm, still gripping her neck, suddenly exerted immense force. Then, to her utter shock, he swung her body, using her as a human battering ram, towards the meeting room door behind them.

Before the woman's body even made contact with the meeting room door, a barrier formation light screen flared to life, and her body slammed directly into it.

BOOM! ! !

With an explosive crash, the barrier formation light screen was instantly pulverized by the woman's body. The moment the barrier shattered, Yang Haoran finally released his grip on the woman's neck.

The woman's body crashed to the ground. Having endured such a powerful impact, she felt a dizzying throb in her brain, and sharp pain radiated throughout her entire body. A look of agony twisted her face, and a mouthful of fresh blood spurted from her lips.

This scene left everyone else present utterly dumbfounded. Even Wu Xiaoxiao hadn't imagined that "Brother Yang," who usually seemed so approachable, could strike with such ruthless force.

The ruthlessness of his strike was secondary; what truly filled them with dread was that Yang Haoran had not shown the slightest hint of anger from beginning to end. Even when the woman insulted him and even actively attacked him, a smile had remained on his face throughout. Even as he struck the woman so viciously, that smile had not vanished. This, more than anything, was what they found most terrifying.

However, what they didn't know was that Yang Haoran's strike this time was actually not ruthless at all. If he had truly intended to be merciless, this female Demon Hunter would already be a corpse.

“Heh heh, thank you for opening the door for me,” Yang Haoran said with a smile, his gaze settling on the woman. “Perhaps you don’t particularly like this method of entry, but I think it’s quite effective. ”

“You. . . *Pffft*! ”

Overcome with fury, and with her body heavily injured, the woman couldn’t help but spurt another mouthful of fresh blood from her lips.

Just at that moment, the meeting room door swung open, and figures came rushing out.

Among them, Yang Haoran spotted a few familiar faces, but also many unfamiliar ones.

After they burst out of the meeting room, they saw Yang Haoran standing at the doorway, and, of course, the woman sprawled on the ground, along with the bloodstains.

The sight before them caused all their expressions to shift. They had rushed out of the meeting room, believing an enemy had invaded the Administrative Courtyard and was attacking the restrictive barrier formation covering the room, never imagining they would emerge to such a bizarre tableau.

They hadn't yet figured out what exactly was happening when the woman struggled to her feet from the ground, then glared furiously at Yang Haoran.

“I’m going to kill you! ! ! ”

A grinding, hateful voice erupted from the woman’s mouth. The demon armament longsword, still embedded in the wall, responded to her summons with a resounding hum, shooting out from the plaster and instantly landing in her grasp.

The instant she grasped the longsword, the woman said nothing more, swinging the blade in her hand and slashing down towards Yang Haoran.

The woman’s action caused the expressions of everyone present to shift once more. Save for Yang Haoran, who maintained his air of calm detachment, everyone else was startled by her brazen move.

“Stop! ”

A sharp shout rang out, and a surge of Star Spirit Power suddenly appeared, directly enveloping the woman, including the demon armament longsword in her hand. The sword froze in mid-air, the woman's furious, murderous strike halted inches from Yang Haoran’s forehead.

The sharp longsword was mere inches from him, yet Yang Haoran made no move to dodge, not even a flicker of his eyelids. He merely glanced at the blade, then shifted his gaze to the woman before him, the smile on his face deepening a few shades.

“Heh heh, you’re truly lucky. ”

The woman didn’t comprehend what Yang Haoran meant by his words, for at that moment, her heart was consumed by raging fury. After suffering such a humiliation at Yang Haoran’s hands, not only did she not restrain herself, but the anger in her heart only intensified. At this moment, she had only one thought in her mind: to kill Yang Haoran, to tear his body into ten thousand pieces.

However, at this moment, not only could the longsword in her hand not fall, but her body was also completely bound by Star Spirit Power, unable to move a single inch. The unvented fury in her heart made her feel as though her body was about to explode from rage.

Although her body was immobile, she could still open her mouth. And so, she unleashed a furious roar at Yang Haoran.

“You country bumpkin! Today, either you die or I die! ! ! ”
