Chapter 896: You're Not Qualified
When Yang Haoran came to a halt, he had already arrived at the entrance to a conference room.
Several people stood outside the conference room entrance. From each of these individuals emanated distinct power fluctuations. They maintained a certain distance from each other, their expressions solemn. No one was joking or fooling around, nor were they whispering amongst themselves; they stood rigidly outside the conference room doors.
Upon Yang Haoran's appearance, everyone's eyes turned towards him, except for one person whose gaze remained fixed forward.
After these individuals saw Yang Haoran, their expressions all changed. One person, in particular, broke into a happy expression.
"Brother Yang, what brings you here!"
This person, her face beaming with joy, walked towards Yang Haoran. It was none other than Old Master Wu's granddaughter, Wu Xiaoxiao.
"I came here to take a look. I didn't expect it to be so lively here today," Yang Haoran said with a smile.
"Greetings, Emissary Yang!"
Among those present, only two remained unmoved; the others proactively saluted and greeted Yang Haoran.
Although Yang Haoran didn't know them, they knew Yang Haoran. In Lecheng's non-ordinary human circle now, few didn't know Yang Haoran. Even if they hadn't met Yang Haoran, they had all heard of this Emissary of Death from the Underworld Office.
Although everyone belonged to different sects and doctrines, and there were often conflicts of interest, up until now, the Lecheng Underworld Office, besides targeting Spirit Mediums, had not targeted any other force, nor had they truly fallen out with any faction. Therefore, when these people saw Yang Haoran, they still proactively saluted and greeted him.
Of course, these greetings were merely polite formalities, or rather, a perfunctory show. They couldn't be called respectful.
In the Underworld, Yang Haoran was merely an unknown nobody, but in Lecheng, it was different; if he stamped his foot, Lecheng would tremble.
And now, he was Lecheng's veritable uncrowned king. It was just that outsiders didn't know this.
"Heh heh, hello everyone."
Yang Haoran chuckled, nodding in response to those who saluted him, then he turned his gaze to one of the individuals.
This person was a woman. She appeared to be in her early twenties, with an oval face, tall and slender figure, and fair, clean complexion. She was a rare beauty.
This woman was one of the two who hadn't greeted him earlier. However, Yang Haoran looked at her not to fuss over such a trivial matter, nor was it because of her beauty that he wanted to steal a few extra glances.
What concerned him was the faint Star Spirit Power emanating from her. This alone indicated that she was a Demon Hunter. However, she was a complete stranger to him; he had never seen her before, nor had he ever heard of such a Demon Hunter existing in Lecheng.
Seeing Yang Haoran look at her, the woman slightly furrowed her brows, a look of displeasure on her face.
"What are you looking at? Haven't you ever seen a woman?"
Her tone was very unfriendly, and her words were sharp. Upon hearing this, Wu Xiaoxiao, who was beside them, immediately showed anger on her face. As for the others, they didn't react much.
"Can't you speak properly? What's wrong with looking at you? Are you going to lose a piece of flesh? " Wu Xiaoxiao retorted angrily, her tone equally unfriendly.
"None of your business, you bumpkin who hasn't seen the world."
The woman spoke flatly, her tone brimming with disdain. She cast a scornful glance at Wu Xiaoxiao, then she shifted her gaze back to Yang Haoran.
This gaze, too, was laced with disdain. This disdain wasn't feigned; it came from a genuine contempt deep within her. ?
Currently, Wu Xiaoxiao's temper was relatively good, but a good temper didn't mean she had no temper at all. Seeing the other party act so arrogantly, she was about to open her mouth and scold the woman a few more times, however, Yang Haoran stopped her.
"Beautiful lady, you must not be a Demon Hunter from our Lecheng, right? Are you from a big city? " Not only did Yang Haoran show no trace of anger, but he instead smiled as he asked the woman.
"Hmph, it seems you're not blind yet. I am indeed from a big city. It's countless times bigger than your God-forsaken Lecheng."
The woman snorted coldly and said with an expression of disdain, her words brimming with a sense of superiority.
"Heh heh, indeed, our Lecheng is truly a small place. By the way, since you've come from so far away, why are you standing outside? Why don't you go in? Don't you have the qualifications to enter?"
Yang Haoran asked with a smile. His words hit the woman directly in the chest, causing the contemptuous expression on the woman's face to instantly freeze.
After asking this question, Yang Haoran didn't wait for the woman's answer and turned with a smile to look at another person.
Besides the woman, this other person also hadn't greeted him. Of course, he didn't care about that; whether others wanted to greet him or not was their business—he genuinely didn't care in the slightest. The reason he shifted his gaze to this person was that the energy fluctuations emanating from them were Corpse Qi.
This person was shriveled all over, with a terrifying appearance. A pair of lifeless eyes protruded from their face. No trace of life could be sensed from them. They were not a living person, but a zombie. It was just unknown what methods their master had used to remove the zombie's unique stench.
Back then, Yang Haoran's parents had tragically died at the hands of zombies. Thus, he had never particularly liked the existence of zombies. Though it wasn't to the extent that he would immediately act upon encountering one, he simply couldn't bring himself to feel any goodwill towards such beings.
From the current situation, it seemed that those present hadn't entered the conference room but were honestly waiting outside, which indicated that, given their status, they were not qualified to enter the conference room.
"I'll go inside and take a look. You stay outside for now."
Yang Haoran instructed Wu Xiaoxiao, then he stepped forward, walking towards the conference room doors.
"Stop right there! What did you mean by what you just said? Who are you looking down on? What right does a bumpkin like you have to look down on me?"
A cold voice, laden with intense killing intent, suddenly rang out. The speaker was none other than the beautiful female Demon Hunter.
The woman's words, charged with strong killing intent, were naturally directed at Yang Haoran, because Yang Haoran's earlier remarks had caused her to lose a lot of face.
In her eyes, Yang Haoran and his companions were mere bumpkins who hadn't seen the world. To be so humiliated by a bumpkin, a surge of indignation instantly flared within her, making her extremely uncomfortable. So she needed to vent this frustration and regain her dignity.
Hearing this, Yang Haoran paused his steps, then he turned to look at the woman. The smile still lingered on his face.
"Heh heh, I merely stated a fact. I said you weren't qualified to enter—could I possibly have been wrong? " Yang Haoran asked with a smile.
The woman, already furious deep down, upon hearing Yang Haoran's words, immediately became even more enraged!
"You dare say that again! " the woman said through gritted teeth.
"Heh heh, why wouldn't I dare say it? I'll even tell you this: you might not be qualified to enter, but I am. You can't expect me to stay outside with you just because you're not qualified to go in, can you? " Yang Haoran asked with a smile.
Upon hearing this, the fury in the woman's heart instantly erupted like a volcano, no longer suppressible.
"You're courting death!"
As her cold voice rang out, she shot forward like an arrow released from a bowstring, charging menacingly towards Yang Haoran.
Yang Haoran watched the woman charge towards him. He showed no intention of dodging; a faint smile still graced his face, appearing completely harmless.
However, the instant the woman appeared before him, before she could even make a move, he struck first!
