Chapter 878: Looks Can Be Deceiving

Whether Gu Yi's learning ability was strong, and whether she truly possessed talent, Yang Haoran would know at a glance once his Ghost Eye was activated. This was because the Ghost Eye could reveal all aspects of a deceased person's life, and based on Gu Yi's life experiences, he could discern if she was genuinely capable.

Gu Yi's entire life flashed through Yang Haoran's mind like a fast-forwarded movie. In but an instant, Yang Haoran gained a full understanding of her existence.

Gu Yi's life had been exceedingly short. The reason for its brevity was simply that she was only twenty when she died. For an ordinary person, dying at twenty was indeed fleeting, having barely had the chance to truly experience the world before departing. It was, truly, a regrettable fate.

However, at this moment, Yang Haoran did not lament the brevity of Gu Yi's life, for his attention was not fixed upon that.

From the information gleaned through his Ghost Eye, it was clear that Gu Yi was indeed a talented individual. Although she hadn't achieved anything grand or spectacular, she had been exceptionally intelligent and quick-witted since childhood, possessing a remarkably strong learning ability. No matter what she undertook, she would quickly get into the swing of things and learn it proficiently, even if it was something she had never encountered before. In this regard, she had not lied to Yang Haoran.

Yet, this was not what surprised Yang Haoran the most. What truly astonished him was an event that transpired just before Gu Yi's death.

Gu Yi had died not long ago. At the time, her city had been engulfed in war, and it had been breached. Large numbers of soldiers poured into its streets. However, their objective then was not to massacre, but to incorporate the city into their own territory. Ordinary citizens, so long as they did not resist, would be accepted; but should they oppose, their fate would be singular: death.

Of course, ordinary folk would not resist. For one, they lacked the capability, and moreover, they simply wished to live in peace and stability. As long as their safety could be guaranteed, and they could survive this tumultuous era without starving, then it mattered little to them who held power.

Gu Yi was merely a young girl, barely twenty years old, and also an ordinary person. Naturally, she would not resist. Yet, misfortune did not spare her simply because she offered no opposition.

At that time, two soldiers burst into Gu Yi's home. Initially, these soldiers merely intended to ransack her house for valuable possessions, but upon discovering Gu Yi's presence, they were overcome with lust. Their first thought was no longer to continue plundering wealth, but to indulge themselves.

The two soldiers not only set their sights on the petite and adorable Gu Yi, but even Gu Yi's mother became a target for their depraved desires. Although Gu Yi's father fought desperately to stop them at the time, he did not succeed; instead, he lost his own life.

With no man left in the house, only two weak women remained. The two soldiers believed them to pose no threat. Furthermore, they figured their bulletproof vests and firearms would hinder their performance and enjoyment later. Thus, they discarded their weapons and shed their armor. One soldier lunged at Gu Yi, the other at Gu Yi's mother.

While Gu Yi's mother was not unattractive, she was still somewhat inferior to Gu Yi. Moreover, Gu Yi was only twenty, and at that age, she held an immense appeal for the two soldiers. Consequently, both soldiers wanted to choose Gu Yi, even squabbling over it.

Perhaps it was because they had been suppressed for too long, or perhaps they were pressed for time, but they quickly reached an agreement. They decided to proceed simultaneously, and afterwards, the brothers would swap their "prey" for another round, ensuring neither suffered a loss.

As for who would go first with Gu Yi, after a brief discussion, they decided to play rock-paper-scissors to determine the order. And so, these two soldiers, in front of both Gu Yi and her mother, began to play rock-paper-scissors.

Once the result was determined, the two soldiers locked onto their respective targets, then, disheveled, lunged at Gu Yi and her mother.

Mother and daughter struggled with all their might, but Gu Yi's mother did not manage to break free from her assailant's clutches. Perhaps it was due to excessive panic, her strength misdirected. Or perhaps the man pinning her mother down possessed exceptional physical prowess. In any case, her mother failed to escape from that soldier's grasp.

As for her, due to her petite and agile build, coupled with her quick reflexes, she actually managed to dodge the soldier at the very moment he lunged at her. The soldier, far from being angered, became even more aroused, lunging at her again with a lecherous grin!

At that moment, Gu Yi instinctively wanted to rush towards the door and flee the place. But remembering her mother was being defiled by that beast, she instantly changed her mind. However, just then, the soldier lunging at her had already arrived.

The path ahead was already blocked by the soldier. Given his physique, it was clearly impossible for her, unarmed, to break through his interception. Helpless, she could only turn and flee into the kitchen behind her.

No sooner had she rushed into the kitchen than the soldier pursued her with a lecherous grin. From behind, she heard her mother's painful cries, along with the other soldier's urging.

“Hurry up! Don't let me finish before you've even begun. If that happens, I won't agree—you'll have to hand that little girl over to me. As for this old hag beneath me, you can do whatever you like with her! ”

No sooner had the soldier's urging ceased than a horrific shriek erupted from within the kitchen. However, this scream did not belong to Gu Yi, but rather to the soldier who had pursued her inside.

The other soldier, hearing the scream, was at first puzzled, but then he couldn't help but mockingly remark,

“Under these circumstances, I can understand you wanting to cry out, but that's not how you do it. You should be more lyrical, more enjoyment-filled, haha! ”

The soldier burst into laughter. The screams from the kitchen continued, and they now carried an intense fear. The soldier's position prevented him from clearly seeing what was happening inside the kitchen, so he had no way of knowing what had truly transpired.

However, upon hearing the screams from the kitchen grow increasingly agonizing and terrified, he realized something was terribly wrong. How could these be cries of pleasure? Even the most perverse individual would not emit such gut-wrenching screams when enjoying themselves.

The soldier knew something had gone awry in the kitchen. He was about to get up and investigate, but just then, a blood-soaked Gu Yi burst out of the kitchen, clutching a dripping cleaver, and charged straight at him!

The soldier was startled. In such a situation, how could he still think of indulging his bestial desires? He scrambled and lunged towards where he had discarded his firearm, intending to use it to subdue Gu Yi first. However, before he could even reach the gun on the ground, a blade landed squarely on his back.

A shriek escaped the soldier's lips. The intense pain stimulated his nerves; he knew he had to retaliate, or he would certainly be hacked to death. In desperation, he endured the severe agony, kicked Gu Yi away, and seized this opportunity to lunge for the gun on the ground.

An instant later, the soldier successfully grasped the firearm. However, at the very moment he seized it, before he even had time to feel relief, a bloody cleaver descended from above, savagely hacking into his wrist.

Blood spurted. The sharp cleaver directly severed the soldier's entire hand. The gun he had dropped to the ground, he had not successfully picked up.

Gu Yi did not stop there. After severing one of the soldier's hands with a single blow, she swung the cleaver in her hand again. Under the soldier's agonizing and terrified screams, she hacked at him dozens of times in quick succession. Every swing was swift, every swing was frenzied. Even when the soldier showed no signs of life whatsoever, the cleaver in her hand did not cease its relentless assault.

The soldier's screams drew the attention of other soldiers outside. The door was forced open, and the gruesome scene inside sent a shock through the hearts of the arriving soldiers. Even though they were accustomed to life and death, and to scenes of bloodshed, they were still startled by what lay before their eyes.

The soldiers, having regained their composure, did not hesitate. They immediately opened fire on the frantically cleaver-wielding Gu Yi. There was no unexpected outcome; Gu Yi died under the soldiers' gunfire.

What transpired afterward, Yang Haoran could not ascertain, as his Ghost Eye was incapable of perceiving events a deceased person experienced after death.

Yang Haoran had certainly not expected that this seemingly petite, adorable, and delicate Gu Yi would become so utterly deranged when she turned vicious. Truly, looks can be deceiving.

Nevertheless, he approved of Gu Yi's actions. If it had been him, he would undoubtedly have been as ruthless as Gu Yi, or perhaps even more so!
