Chapter 804: Abandoning the Donkey After the Mill

Thanks to Yang Haoran's dānyào, the gravely wounded Luo Dui successfully escaped danger, though his injuries were so severe that he had yet to regain consciousness.

The doctors had stated that Luo Dui would not recover in a short period, but there was no need to worry too much. His life had been saved; it was only a matter of time before he woke up, though it would require some patience.

With the doctors' assurance, they naturally had nothing to be overly concerned about. As long as his life was preserved, it didn't matter if he woke up a little later.

This mission had inflicted heavy losses on the Spirit Police. If it weren't for Bai Xue, that powerful Demon Saint, their losses would have been even greater.

With Luo Dui unconscious, all internal affairs of the Spirit Police naturally fell entirely upon Zhou Fudui's shoulders. He needed to report the mission's gains and losses to the Administrative Chief, console the injured Spirit Police, arrange the funerals for the fallen, and so on.

These matters should have originally been shared between him and Luo Dui, but with Luo Dui heavily injured and unconscious, he was utterly incapable of handling any of these tasks, nor would he be able to in the short term. Thus, the burden fell solely on him.

Only after confirming Luo Dui's life was out of danger did Zhou Fudui, who still had many pressing matters to attend to, finally feel at ease leaving the treatment room.

Compared to Zhou Fudui, Bai Xue was much more relaxed. Her role within the Spirit Police was akin to someone who "only dealt the blows, but didn't bury the dead. " She merely acted, without needing to consider anything else or carry out other tasks. To put it simply, she was merely an enforcer hired by the Spirit Police.

As such, she presented a stark contrast to the overwhelmed Zhou Fudui.

Yang Haoran had originally intended to inquire about the Demon Hunters from Bai Xue at the Spirit Police headquarters, but considering that discussing such matters on someone else's turf was never a good idea—he understood the principle of "walls having ears"—he decided to return home and then ask Bai Xue for the specifics.

Upon returning to the villa, Bai Xue went to Feng Xiao to retrieve some healing dānyào, then took a bath and changed into clean clothes before heading to Yang Haoran's study to meet him.

After a thorough conversation, Yang Haoran gained an understanding of the Demon Hunter Association's dispatch of personnel to Lecheng.

It turned out that the reason Bai Xue knew the Demon Hunter Association had sent people to Lecheng, and that they were there because of the previous incident, was because the Spirit Police had received an order from the Administrative Council.

The young man whom Yang Haoran had killed that day did indeed have parents who were Demon Hunters, and they held a certain status within the Demon Hunter Association. After their son lost contact with them, they tried many methods to get in touch with him, but all attempts failed.

Finally, they decided to personally travel to Lecheng to search for their son's whereabouts, as his last mission location was in Lecheng, where they might find some clues.

To facilitate their search, the couple immediately contacted the Lecheng Administrative Council upon arriving in Lecheng. Given their status and strength, the Administrative Council naturally could not ignore them.

After learning the purpose of their visit, the Administrative Council immediately promised the couple their full assistance in finding their son, and even issued an order to the Spirit Police, instructing them to help the couple in their search.

The Administrative Council agreed so readily for a few reasons: one, the couple was very powerful; second, they had the Demon Hunter Association backing them. The Administrative Council was well aware that its own strength was limited, and it was no match for them, whether in individual combat or overall power.

Furthermore, the Administrative Council intended to foster good relations with the couple, or rather, with the Demon Hunter Association, which was why they took the couple's matter so seriously, even mobilizing the Spirit Police to cooperate with their investigation.

As a member of the Spirit Police, Bai Xue naturally couldn't be unaware of this. Based on the couple's description of their son's appearance and attire, she merely thought for a moment and knew exactly who they were looking for: the young man who had harbored malicious intent towards her that day and had been eliminated by Yang Haoran.

After the mission, Bai Xue returned to the Spirit Police headquarters. She then found an opportunity to immediately send a Communication Talisman to Yang Haoran. Her purpose was simple: to warn Yang Haoran to be careful and not get targeted by the other party.

"Although this matter might not trace back to us, I think it's still best to be cautious, lest we suffer a great loss later," Bai Xue expressed her thoughts to Yang Haoran, who nodded gently, agreeing with her assessment.

"Careful vigilance is essential. It would be even better if we could figure out the general strength of this couple."

A smile surfaced on Bai Xue's face when she heard Yang Haoran's words.

"This is a bit tricky. Without encountering a formidable opponent, it would probably be difficult to ascertain their true strength. However, I could secretly probe them. As for whether the information I gather will reflect their true strength, I can't guarantee that."

Yang Haoran pondered for a moment, then dismissed Bai Xue's suggestion.

"Although you have the identity of Spirit Police, you are still a demon, which is an undeniable fact. Yet, the two of them are Demon Hunters. If you go to inquire about their information and they find out, how do you think they'll react, and what will they do?"

Posed with Yang Haoran's question, Bai Xue considered it briefly before responding.

"They'll very likely think I harbor malicious intent towards them, or that there's something wrong with me, that I'm highly suspicious. Either possibility is not good for me."

Yang Haoran lit a cigarette and nodded at Bai Xue.

"Your analysis is correct. Therefore, for your sake, the best approach is to stay out of this matter and let me handle it. Just go about your daily routine as if nothing happened and you know nothing. If I need your help, I'll naturally inform you then."

The reason Yang Haoran wanted to understand the couple's strength was simple: if their strength was ordinary, he would use the advantage of "the enemy being in the open and I in the shadows" to launch a preemptive strike, eliminating them without a trace, thus removing this persistent threat.

Before understanding their strength, he naturally dared not do so. If the opponent's strength exceeded his controllable range, then it wouldn't be the opponent who died, but him.

So, for safety's sake, and to avoid being so passive, he wanted to know their true strength.

Having Bai Xue handle this was clearly inappropriate. After all, Bai Xue's identity was that of a demon, and Demon Hunters were sworn enemies of demons. If she were to probe their strength, it would be fine if she wasn't discovered. But if she were discovered or if any rumors leaked, it would surely bring trouble to Bai Xue.

To prevent such a situation, Yang Haoran decided that Bai Xue should not involve herself in this matter.

"Hehe, I'll listen to Underworld Official Brother. Whatever Underworld Official Brother says, I'll do."

Bai Xue spoke with a charming smile. She had already removed her mask, and both her voice and her smile were filled with allure and magic. Not to mention the opposite sex, even those of the same sex would likely find it hard to resist.

However, Yang Haoran had not just met Bai Xue. Over the years, he had seen her seductive words and actions countless times, and precisely because he had seen so much, he had developed a certain immunity.

Just as Bai Xue's words fell, she seemed to suddenly sense something. The smile vanished from her face, replaced by a look of confusion. Then, in front of Yang Haoran, she retrieved a Communication Talisman from her personal dimension.

She did not avoid Yang Haoran. In his presence, she extended a finger and tapped the Communication Talisman from a distance, and a man's voice emanated from within the talisman.

"The Administrative Council intends to make a move against you. Do not return to Spirit Police headquarters for now. I will find a way to inform Old Master Wu of the details. Be careful yourself."

Not only Bai Xue, but Yang Haoran also recognized the owner of this voice. It was none other than Zhou Fudui, who had only recently parted ways with them.

Upon hearing Zhou Fudui's words, Bai Xue's smile first stiffened, then gave way to a look of bewilderment, while Yang Haoran's brow furrowed slightly as he fell into deep thought.
