Chapter 803: Lending a Hand
Since Bai Xue was wearing a mask, Zhou Fudui couldn't see the joy on her face at that moment.
He glanced at Captain Luo, who was being resuscitated in the emergency room, then turned his gaze to Bai Xue. After a moment of thought, he spoke to her.
"With Yang Emissary personally gracing us with his presence, I should, by all rights, greet him myself. However, Captain Luo's life hangs by a thread, and I truly can't bring myself to budge an inch from here. So, I can only trouble Sister Bai Xue to go and welcome him. You share an excellent relationship with Yang Emissary, so I believe he won't take offense at my discourtesy if you greet him."
Zhou Fudui was now exceedingly courteous, even respectful, towards Bai Xue. He was no longer hostile towards her as he had been in the past, which was why even his address for her had changed.
Zhou Fudui was quite young, and if age were truly a factor, calling Bai Xue "Sister" would be perfectly acceptable; even calling her "Grandma" wouldn't be an exaggeration.
However, his address of "Sister Bai Xue" wasn't due to age, but rather a heartfelt respect he felt for her. Since Bai Xue had joined the Spirit Police, she had saved his life no less than five times.
Zhou Fudui was not someone devoid of gratitude, and these repeated life-saving acts only deepened his reverence for Bai Xue.
Not only him, but Captain Luo had also been saved by Bai Xue multiple times, and even he treated her with utmost courtesy, let alone the others.
“You can stay here and keep watch, but you needn’t worry too much. With Underworld Emissary Brother here, Captain Luo will be saved. ”
Although Bai Xue wore a mask that concealed her expression, her tone brimmed with joy.
The Spirit Police’s medical team was quite good, but Captain Luo’s injuries were severe, and whether he could be resuscitated remained uncertain. Both Bai Xue and Zhou Fudui understood this implicitly, and it was precisely why Zhou Fudui insisted on staying by his side, not budging an inch.
Compared to the Pharmacist Feng Xiao, the Spirit Police’s medical team was truly nothing. Back then, Yang Haoran's life hung by a thread, with only a flicker of life left, yet even then, Feng Xiao managed to save him.
If Yang Haoran agreed to let Feng Xiao help, then in Bai Xue's opinion, Captain Luo’s life should be out of danger.
Moreover, even if Feng Xiao didn't personally intervene, the Dānyào or Pharmacist’s Medicine she refined would still be of immense help to Captain Luo's current condition.
Bai Xue had considered giving Dānyào or Pharmacist’s Medicine to Captain Luo, but she currently had no healing medicine left. Her recent mission had depleted all the healing remedies she possessed. However, just because she didn't have any, didn't mean Yang Haoran didn't either.
Upon hearing Bai Xue’s words, Zhou Fudui paused, slightly stunned, before a look of joy spread across his face.
“I’ll go with you to greet Yang Emissary! ”
Zhou Fudui, who had initially resolved not to leave Captain Luo’s side, suddenly changed his mind. Bai Xue naturally understood why.
A moment later, the two appeared outside the Spirit Police headquarters’ barrier, where they found Yang Haoran speaking with a few Spirit Police officers.
Their arrival naturally caught Yang Haoran’s attention.
Both Bai Xue and Zhou Fudui bore obvious bloodstains, and parts of their clothing were torn. The signs of recent combat were clear. Evidently, they had just returned to the Spirit Police headquarters, and in such haste that they hadn't even had time to change out of their tattered, bloodied clothes.
“Underworld Emissary Brother! ”
“Yang Emissary! ”
Bai Xue and Zhou Fudui greeted Yang Haoran in quick succession. Yang Haoran responded with a faint smile and a nod, then wasted no time with pleasantries, cutting straight to the point.
“First, take me inside to see Captain Luo’s condition. ”
At that moment, Captain Luo was Zhou Fudui’s utmost concern, and his decision to greet Yang Haoran was also for Captain Luo’s sake. Thus, Yang Haoran’s directness perfectly aligned with his wishes.
Under their guidance, Yang Haoran not only successfully entered the Spirit Police headquarters but also proceeded to the treatment area, where he saw Captain Luo being resuscitated in the emergency room.
Captain Luo was completely unconscious, his face deathly pale and devoid of color, and his life signs were extremely weak. However, compared to Yang Haoran’s condition last time, Captain Luo’s situation was relatively better.
“Underworld Emissary Brother, do you still have any healing medicine on you? ”
Bai Xue whispered, her question directed at Yang Haoran. On their way there, Bai Xue had already shared some information with him, so he understood the implication of her words.
Yang Haoran nodded lightly, then retrieved a Dānyào from his independent space and handed it to Zhou Fudui.
“Have Captain Luo take this Dānyào. It will aid in his resuscitation. ”
Zhou Fudui accepted the Dānyào with a face full of gratitude and hastily expressed his thanks.
“Thank you for your assistance, Yang Emissary! Our Lecheng Spirit Police will never forget your immense kindness! ”
Zhou Fudui naturally understood just how precious a Dānyào was. It was simply that their Spirit Police force lacked a unique presence like a Pharmacist. Although they had previously acquired some Dānyào and Pharmacist’s Medicine through various channels, after the world plunged into chaos, missions became too frequent and increasingly perilous, consuming all the various medicines crafted by Pharmacists that they had collected.
Moreover, the Dānyào Yang Haoran had given him now, whether by its color, the medicinal fragrance it exuded, or the power fluctuations it emanated, was incomparable to any Dānyào they had ever collected. From this alone, it was evident that the Dānyào Yang Haoran had provided was certainly far more precious than he had imagined.
“It was nothing, a mere trifle. You truly don’t need to dwell on it. Just quickly administer this Dānyào to Captain Luo. ”
Yang Haoran spoke to Zhou Fudui with a faint smile on his face. Though Yang Haoran appeared calm, his heart still ached a little. Just as Zhou Fudui had guessed, this Dānyào was indeed very precious. If not for his decent relationship with Captain Luo and the fact that Captain Luo's life hung by a thread, he certainly wouldn't have produced this Dānyào; offering even a single drop of Pharmacist's Medicine would have been generous enough.
Zhou Fudui said no more, but he committed this act of kindness to memory. After taking the Dānyào from Yang Haoran, he quickly handed it to one of the medical personnel, instructing her to administer it to Captain Luo immediately.
Zhou Fudui didn’t believe Yang Haoran would tamper with the Dānyào, as in his view, it would serve no purpose for Yang Haoran. If Yang Haoran truly intended to harm Captain Luo, he could simply ignore his fate; there would be no need for such an elaborate ploy.
He couldn’t conceive of a reason for Yang Haoran to harm Captain Luo. Moreover, he trusted Yang Haoran considerably, as the cooperation between their Spirit Police and the Underworld Office was not a recent development. While Yang Haoran’s reputation wasn’t entirely pristine, he had at least never done anything to betray the Spirit Police.
Therefore, after receiving the Dānyào, he felt nothing but gratitude towards Yang Haoran, never once suspecting that Yang Haoran would tamper with it.
And indeed, that was the truth; Yang Haoran had no intention of tampering with the Dānyào. After all, he had no reason to harm Captain Luo, and by all accounts, Captain Luo was a friend of his.
“After the Dānyào is taken, it will take some time for the effects to manifest. You don’t need to worry excessively; Captain Luo will be fine. I have faith in my Dānyào, and you should also have faith in your captain. ”
Yang Haoran’s words brought a measure of reassurance to Zhou Fudui, but his taut nerves did not fully relax. He merely nodded at Yang Haoran in response, saying nothing.
Yang Haoran had intended to ask Bai Xue about the Demon Hunter Association incident, but seeing that Bai Xue’s attention was also focused on Captain Luo in the emergency room, he temporarily set aside the thought. He would only inquire once Captain Luo was out of danger.
Through their prolonged association, Bai Xue had developed a certain affection for the Spirit Police organization, and naturally, for the comrades with whom she had faced life and death battles. Captain Luo was, of course, no exception.
Yang Haoran perceived this, so he did not urge Bai Xue to leave, but instead waited quietly outside the emergency room.
Approximately half an hour later, a doctor in a white coat emerged from the emergency room. Though he was drenched in sweat and his face bore a weary expression, a smile blossomed on his lips.
Seeing the smile on the doctor’s face, Zhou Fudui’s tightly strung nerves finally relaxed.
“Deputy Captain Zhou, Captain Luo is out of danger. It’s thanks to that Dānyào; otherwise, it would have been quite difficult to pull Captain Luo back from the Ghost Gate. ”
