Chapter 599: Explosive

In the center of the factory building stood a high platform. Judging by the color and material of the platform, it was not an original fixture of the factory building, but rather seemed to have been erected recently.

As for the spotlights hanging above the factory floor, they too were brand new, clearly not original to the building.

The Hongyu Cement Plant had been abandoned for many years; anything original here would have long since fallen into disrepair, certainly not looking new.

Moreover, the Hongyu Cement Plant had been without power for years, its electrical circuits undoubtedly ruined. Yet, these issues seemed to have been resolved, otherwise, the current scene would not have been possible.

Upon the newly erected high platform, two individuals hung suspended. One was Shi Kai, though his appearance was utterly wretched. His body was covered in wounds and bloodstains, and his aura was incredibly weak. His conspicuous baseball cap, however, was nowhere to be seen.

After Shi Kai's disappearance this morning, both Yang Haoran and Huo Laoban had speculated that he might have been abducted by Spirit Mediums, following in the footsteps of Cloud River City's Emissary of Death. Lacking concrete evidence, neither had drawn a definitive conclusion. However, the scene before them confirmed their suspicions: Shi Kai had indeed been captured alive by Spirit Mediums.

Aside from Shi Kai, the other person appeared even more tragic, with injuries far more severe than Shi Kai's. He was utterly on the verge of death, seemingly clinging to life by a single thread.

Judging by the Yin Qi emanating from his body and the faint Spirit Power fluctuations subtly coming from within him, this person belonged to the Underworld Office.

When the Old Crone and the surrounding Night Watchers clearly saw this person's face, their expressions all changed drastically. For this person was none other than the Emissary of Death of their Cloud River City Underworld Office, who had been missing for several days!

Seeing their own divine envoy tormented to such a state, the Old Crone and the Night Watchers present felt a deep unease. The Old Crone, in particular, instinctively moved to rescue him, but she was promptly stopped by Huo Laoban.

Huo Laoban's intervention brought the Old Crone back to her senses. She knew that she couldn't act without Huo Laoban's command, lest she disrupt the rhythm of their operation. Thus, she could only suppress her inner impulse and abandon the thought of immediate rescue.

Below where the two Emissaries of Death hung, a black cloth covered something. Judging by its approximate outline, the object concealed by the cloth seemed to be a statue, though what kind of statue it was remained unknown for now.

In front of the black cloth stood a young man. He wore sunglasses and a baseball cap, which he had turned backward, with the brim facing the rear. This baseball cap appeared to be Shi Kai's very own.

The young man cradled an electric guitar in his hands, a microphone stand before him. He swayed his head, strumming with an expression of pure enjoyment, rocking along with the rhythm, utterly ecstatic.

This was the very fellow who had just welcomed Yang Haoran and the others.

Directly in front, below the high platform, sat roughly twenty-something individuals. They were a mix of men and women, ranging from elderly men and crones to young adults in their early twenties.

Without exception, they were all Spirit Mediums, as their bodies radiated the unique Communication Power possessed only by Spirit Mediums.

These twenty-odd Spirit Mediums were not all Spirit Masters; several were merely the lowest-ranked Spirit Mediums. Floating behind the Spirit Masters were various ghostly entities—these were naturally their Guardian Spirits, the very mark of a Spirit Master. Those Spirit Mediums without a Guardian Spirit could only be considered low-ranked, not true Spirit Masters.

The arrival of Yang Haoran and the others naturally drew the attention of these Spirit Mediums. One by one, they turned their heads, their gazes falling upon Yang Haoran and his companions behind them. Their reactions, however, varied: some wore cold sneers, others showed fear in their eyes, and a few remained expressionless.

Besides these Spirit Mediums and their Guardian Spirits, several other ghostly entities hovered suspended above the high platform. Some had milky-white eyes, others blood-red, all glaring menacingly at Yang Haoran and his group.

The entire factory building was filled with explosive music. Huo Laoban did not issue an order to attack; instead, he watched Mo Jingnan's performance on the high platform with keen interest.

Yang Haoran, however, lacked Huo Laoban's leisurely inclination. His mind was highly vigilant, guarding against any sudden incidents.

The two of them had their own thoughts, so neither made a move against their target. However, just because they held back didn't mean others would follow suit.

Seeing Mo Jingnan's audacious display, brazenly more arrogant than even she was, the young woman instantly felt a surge of intense displeasure. A cold huff escaped her lips, and between her two fingers, a talisman instantly appeared.

It was a Black Talisman. Gripped between the woman's two fingers, it didn't wobble limply like ordinary paper but remained rigid and straight as a piece of iron.

With a light flick of her wrist, the talisman was flung out by the woman, transforming into a streak of black light that shot towards Mo Jingnan on the high platform.

The middle-aged woman's face abruptly changed. By the time she noticed the young woman's subtle move, it was too late; the Black Talisman, like a flying dagger, plunged towards Mo Jingnan on the high platform.

At the same time, everyone else present also noticed the Black Talisman the woman had launched!

Just as the Black Talisman was about to strike Mo Jingnan on the high platform, at that very moment, Mo Jingnan's fingers forcefully swept across the guitar strings.

A piercing sound erupted, forming a force that actually blocked the incoming talisman. The talisman seemed to crash against an invisible barrier, unable to advance even an inch.

Mo Jingnan grinned. Not only was he not angry, but he felt incredibly excited. His fingers once again swept forcefully across the strings, and the piercing sound resounded anew. The talisman, suspended in mid-air by the invisible force, was torn to shreds before it could unleash its intended power. A valuable Black Talisman was thus rendered useless.

"Beauty, you seem quite impatient. It's truly a pity that such a wonderful piece of music was interrupted by you like this. " The explosive music ceased, and Mo Jingnan spoke to the young woman with a regretful expression.

"Such noisy clamor is probably only to your liking," the young woman said icily.

Meanwhile, the middle-aged woman offered Huo Laoban an apologetic smile. She knew very well that her daughter's recent action had been highly inappropriate, and so she hoped to gain Huo Laoban's understanding.

Huo Laoban, however, waved his hand at her, signaling her not to take it to heart. Yet, the middle-aged woman was no fool; she could tell from Huo Laoban's expression that he was somewhat displeased, though he wasn't overtly showing it.

The middle-aged woman could perfectly understand Huo Laoban's vexation. Since Huo Laoban had decided not to make a move for the time being, he must have had his reasons. Her daughter's actions, however, had disrupted Huo Laoban's plan, so it would be strange indeed if he were pleased.

"You don't understand music, and I don't blame you for that. However, I've never been interested in Playing the lute to a cow."

As his words fell, Mo Jingnan no longer looked at the young woman, but instead fixed his gaze on Huo Laoban, who stood at the forefront!
