Chapter 551: Planting Medicinal Ingredients

After entering the barrier, Yang Haoran immediately took out the medicinal ingredients because they were all living things. He didn't dare let them stay in his independent space for too long, lest any harm come to them, which would be a huge loss.

<r>

Seeing Yang Haoran take out the medicinal ingredients, Feng Xiao's heart skipped a beat. She seemed to have only just remembered these ingredients and quickly began inspecting them to see if any had been damaged.

<r>

For Feng Xiao, too much had happened today. She was still just a fifteen-year-old girl with limited capacity to process it all. So many things happening at once had made her mind a bit sluggish, causing her to temporarily forget about the medicinal ingredients in Yang Haoran's independent space.

<r>

Feng Xiao meticulously inspected each plant. Yang Haoran watched her inspect them from the side, without disturbing her, nor offering to help.

<r>

It wasn't that he didn't want to help, but that he wasn't qualified to. He wasn't a Pharmacist, after all, and had no understanding of these medicinal ingredients. While he could tell if they were damaged, he had no idea if they could still be planted after being damaged.

<r>

So, as an outsider to the field, he figured it was best to just watch, lest he add to Feng Xiao's troubles and increase the young girl's workload.

<r>

About an hour later, Feng Xiao finally finished inspecting all the medicinal ingredients and stood up, hands braced on her knees.

<r>

"So, how is it? How many of these medicinal ingredients can still be planted? " Yang Haoran asked.

<r>

"Except for a small portion of the medicinal ingredients that were significantly affected, the vast majority weren't too badly impacted. I'll need to give the affected ones special care, using specific Pharmacist's Medicine to revive them. I should be able to save them, but. . . " Feng Xiao trailed off, hesitating.

<r>

"But what? " Yang Haoran prompted.

<r>

"But where's the best place to plant them? " Feng Xiao asked. m. i. c

<r>

Hearing that this was Feng Xiao's concern, Yang Haoran smiled and pointed to the large expanse of greenery outside the villa, asking, "Can they be planted in that area?"

<r>

"It's certainly possible, and the area is large enough, but is it suitable? " Feng Xiao asked.

<r>

Yang Haoran understood Feng Xiao's meaning. Feng Xiao was worried about what to do with the existing greenery.

<r>

"That's easy to deal with."

<r>

Yang Haoran replied with a smile, then channeled the Spirit Power within his body, forcibly uprooting all the vegetation in that area. He then opened a gap in the barrier and threw all the uprooted plants out of it.

<r>

Yang Haoran acted decisively, without the slightest hesitation or sloppiness, leaving Feng Xiao wide-eyed in astonishment. It wasn't until Yang Haoran patted her shoulder that she snapped out of her surprise.

<r>

"Is this okay now? " Yang Haoran asked with a smile.

<r>

"Ye. . . yes, it is. " Feng Xiao nodded blankly, her voice a little stuttery as she replied.

<r>

Feng Xiao's strong reaction was because the vegetation was quite beautiful, and in her eyes, probably not cheap. Yet, Yang Haoran had uprooted it all without a second thought, and very thoroughly, which had startled her for a moment.

<r>

"Compared to your medicinal ingredients, they're utterly worthless. Let's not waste any more time and plant these medicinal ingredients first, lest they suffer any more damage," Yang Haoran said.

<r>

Feng Xiao quickly nodded. Although she didn't know the true value of the uprooted vegetation, she knew that compared to her medicinal ingredients, her ingredients were definitely more precious.

<r>

"I'll go back and get a hoe. " Feng Xiao turned and ran towards the barrier.

<r>

"No need for all that trouble. " Yang Haoran quickly stopped Feng Xiao and told her, "Just tell me how big the holes need to be, and how deep, and I'll make them for you."

<r>

Feng Xiao knew Yang Haoran wanted to use his power to get everything done. She had originally intended to refuse, but considering the immediate priority was to plant the medicinal ingredients quickly, she didn't object and informed Yang Haoran of the size and depth required for each planting hole.

<r>

Although Yang Haoran couldn't identify the medicinal ingredients, he certainly knew how to dig holes. After learning Feng Xiao's specific requirements, he didn't hesitate for a moment and immediately acted.

<r>

He first used his power to loosen the soil in the area. A unique, earthy scent permeated the air.

<r>

Yang Haoran was originally a child from the countryside, having done no small amount of farm work in his youth, so he was very familiar with the smell of earth.

<r>

Perhaps to others, this unique scent of soil had absolutely nothing to do with 'fragrance,' but in his eyes, this smell *was* fragrant, and it made him feel comfortable.

<r>

After loosening the soil, he then, according to Feng Xiao's requirements, controlled his Spirit Power to create small, identical pits in the area, all the same size and depth.

<r>

Meanwhile, Feng Xiao picked up the medicinal ingredients and planted them one by one into the soil.

<r>

She could have used the power within her body, which would have made the planting much faster, completing it in a matter of a few breaths, if not instantly.

<r>

However, she didn't do that. Instead, she placed the medicinal ingredients into the small pits one by one, then covered them with soil using her hands. If she found any stones or roots, she would unhesitatingly toss them out of the area.

<r>

Her movements were exceedingly careful, as if afraid that too much force would harm the medicinal ingredients. She also meticulously inspected the area around each planted ingredient, leaving no debris behind, only pure soil.

<r>

Yang Haoran observed all of this. Though a question rose in his mind, he didn't voice it immediately. Instead, imitating Feng Xiao's movements, he carefully picked up medicinal ingredients one by one with his hands and passed them to Feng Xiao, thereby easing her workload.

<r>

Under their combined effort, all the medicinal ingredients were replanted into the soil. As for those requiring special care, Feng Xiao planted them separately in a designated area.

<r>

Feng Xiao clapped the soil from her hands and gazed at the new herb garden before her, a look of satisfaction on her face. Yang Haoran seized this opportunity to ask.

<r>

"You could have used your power, so why did you rely on brute force?"

<r>

Feng Xiao smiled faintly and replied, "Using power, even a slight slip could damage the medicinal ingredients. Furthermore, if the process isn't meticulous enough, and something that shouldn't be there is left behind, it will also affect the growth of the medicinal ingredients. That's why my master and I never use power when planting medicinal ingredients. Even when digging a single hole, we choose to use a hoe and our hands. This is the only way to ensure it's foolproof. As for whether other Pharmacists do the same, I don't know."

<r>

Feng Xiao's explanation cleared Yang Haoran's doubts. He had only two words in his heart for this: 'meticulous craftsmanship'.

<r>

He nodded with a smile, indicating his understanding. However, he offered no further comment on the method. As an outsider to this particular craft, an outsider could only see the superficial and was not qualified to make random judgments.

<r>

"From now on, this will be your new herb garden. If the area isn't enough, other sections can also be used for planting medicinal ingredients. Just dig up the existing vegetation in those areas; they're not worth anything, don't feel bad about it."

<r>

Hearing this, Feng Xiao's eyes lit up, and she asked, "I have a lot more seeds! Can I really convert other areas into herb gardens too?"

<r>

"Of course you can. You can plant as many medicinal ingredients as you want. If this area isn't enough, I'll tear down the villa. If that's still not enough, I'll open up the big mountain behind us, so you don't need to worry about not having enough space to plant them," Yang Haoran said with a smile.

<r>

Yang Haoran's affirmative answer made Feng Xiao very happy. She quickly said, "Then let's start right away!"

<r>

Seeing Feng Xiao's eagerness, Yang Haoran stopped her, saying, "No need to rush. This will be your home from now on, you'll have plenty of time to do these things. Right now, I need to take you somewhere else."

<r>

Although Feng Xiao didn't know where Yang Haoran was taking her next, she still nodded and suppressed the excitement in her heart.

<r>

Led by Yang Haoran, Feng Xiao entered the villa and proceeded to the underground area beneath it.

<r>

The underground space beneath the villa was vast, far larger than the villa above. After Yang Haoran brought Feng Xiao to this underground area, he stopped in the section specifically designed for researching various medicines.

<r>

Here, there wasn't just an area for researching medicines, but also a section for patients to heal. The reason for building it underground, naturally, was for secrecy.

<r>

"From now on, this place belongs to you. You can refine Dānyào here, concoct Pharmacist's Medicine, and research various drugs. As long as this place isn't breached by enemies, I guarantee that no one will disturb you."
