Chapter 427: Reinforcements Arrive

The chains dissipated into Yin Qi, and Old Master Wu's expression changed. He wanted to act, to condense the chains again, but the disheveled man gave him no such opportunity. A green light flashed past, and Old Master Wu felt a sharp pain in his chest. A tremendous force sent him flying directly, crashing into Xiujuan, who had just managed to get back on her feet. "I want to see Yang Haoran. If you continue to obstruct me, do not blame me for striking hard. " The disheveled man spoke blandly, his words full of menace. Although Old Master Wu and Xiujuan were sent flying by the disheveled man, neither suffered fatal injuries. Given the disheveled man's strength, if he had truly intended to kill them, they would likely be dead or close to it by now. Old Master Wu didn't know why the disheveled man hadn't delivered a killing blow. However, he couldn't possibly give up his resistance and allow the disheveled man to enter the villa based on that alone. Even though Yang Haoran wasn't in the villa, and the disheveled man wouldn't be able to see him, this wasn't about Yang Haoran's presence; it was a matter of attitude and stance. Once they conceded, it would be tantamount to compromising with an enemy. This was more than just losing face; if news of this spread throughout Lecheng, it would significantly impact the prestige of their Lecheng Underworld Office. Therefore, the disheveled man's threat had no effect on Old Master Wu whatsoever. As for Xiujuan, there was even less need to mention her. To make that resentful Evil Spirit compromise was not impossible, but it was certainly not easy. At least from the current situation, she definitely had no intention of yielding. The moment the disheveled man's words fell, Xiujuan attempted to cast an illusion on him again, but Old Master Wu stopped her. "Xiujuan, calm down. Don't be impulsive," Old Master Wu said, pulling Xiujuan and reminding her in a low voice. Though extremely reluctant, Xiujuan suppressed the urge to attack again, her milky-white eyes locked onto the disheveled man, ready to unleash another illusion at any moment. Seeing Xiujuan hold back, Old Master Wu secretly breathed a sigh of relief. He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and turned his gaze back to the disheveled man. "What exactly do you want with our boss? " Old Master Wu asked gravely. To some, Old Master Wu's question might seem like pointless chatter, but a closer look would reveal his true intention. His reason was simple: to stall for as much time as possible, to forcefully hold out until reinforcements arrived.

However, whether the disheveled man saw through his intentions or simply lost patience, he had no intention of continuing to waste words with Old Master Wu. "If he's not here, then I'll go inside and wait for him. As for you two, consider yourselves my hostages. " The disheveled man sensed a faint power fluctuation within the villa. Initially, he assumed this fluctuation emanated from Yang Haoran, merely a deliberate concealment of his true strength, allowing only a faint aura to escape. Yet, through their recent exchange, he realized his guess might be wrong. The faint power fluctuation in the villa might not be from Yang Haoran after all. If Yang Haoran truly was inside, why wouldn't he emerge when such a commotion was happening outside? Was he not worried that his two subordinates would be killed? Of course, there was another possibility: Yang Haoran was indeed in the villa, and the faint power fluctuation was his, but for some reason, he couldn't extricate himself at the moment, which was why he remained oblivious to the outside situation. These were merely the disheveled man's conjectures; he couldn't be certain if the reality matched his suspicions. But regardless of the truth, everything would become clear once he entered the villa and saw for himself. Therefore, he didn't want to continue wasting time with Old Master Wu and Xiujuan here.

The disheveled man advanced towards Old Master Wu, his longsword in hand. Seeing his plan to stall for time fall through, Old Master Wu's expression turned grim. The disheveled man had made his intentions perfectly clear: he was going to take Old Master Wu and Xiujuan hostage. If he succeeded, Old Master Wu would suffer an immense loss of face today. Watching the disheveled man draw closer step by step, Old Master Wu once again mobilized the Spirit Power within his body. However, due to the previous excessive consumption of his Spirit Power, he now had very little left. He had been helpless against the opponent even at his peak; in his current state, he was even less of a match. Yet, Old Master Wu had no intention of retreating. Regardless of the outcome, he was determined to fight to the very end and would absolutely not compromise. Just at that moment, however, several power fluctuations emerged, rapidly approaching from a distance. The disheveled man paused, his gaze fixed on the distance. One moment, several black figures were far away; the next, they were right before his eyes. The sound of rushing air echoed one after another as several Night Watchers, clad in black robes, surrounded the disheveled man. Their hoods covered their heads, obscuring their facial expressions, but the black Yin Qi emanating from them indicated that they had all mobilized their Spirit Power and entered a combat state. These Night Watchers were responsible for duties within the urban area of Lecheng. Upon receiving the mass message from Old Master Wu, they immediately dropped their work and rushed over. The incident was sudden, and only they could arrive in such a short time. Night Watchers working outside the city could not possibly make it in this situation. After all, none of them possessed the ability to tear space; by the time they arrived, it would be too late. At this critical juncture, the timely arrival of several Night Watchers brought a slight sense of relief to Old Master Wu. Although he knew their strength was limited, amounting to nothing in the disheveled man's eyes, their presence could, to some extent, buy the disheveled man a moment. And in that moment, other help might arrive. "You don't seriously think a few of them can stop me, do you? " The disheveled man swept his gaze over the surrounding Night Watchers, then looked at Old Master Wu and asked. "Of course, I'm not that naive," Old Master Wu replied gravely. "But some things, even if you know they're impossible, still must be done, even if it costs your life. " The disheveled man froze for a moment, as if Old Master Wu's words had touched something deep within him. When he recovered, he actually nodded at Old Master Wu. "You're right," the disheveled man said, frowning, as if recalling something. "Some things, even if you know they're impossible, still must be done, even if it costs your life. " Old Master Wu didn't know the disheveled man, nor his past, so he had no idea why the disheveled man was expressing such sentiment at this moment. However, he desperately wished the disheveled man would continue to muse for a while longer, to buy him more time. Yet, what the disheveled man did next greatly exceeded Old Master Wu's expectations. The disheveled man actually inserted his longsword into the ground again, then plopped himself down, and retrieved a can of beer from his independent space, opening it and drinking by himself. Old Master Wu was somewhat bewildered. The disheveled man's actions at this moment truly puzzled him; he didn't know what the disheveled man intended to do. "Your words just now reminded me of my true purpose for coming here," the disheveled man said. "I can't be certain if that faint power fluctuation in the villa is from Yang Haoran, but it doesn't matter. I can wait for him to appear here. " As his words fell, the disheveled man took another deep gulp of beer. From his demeanor, it seemed he no longer intended to fight but would rather sit here and wait for Yang Haoran to show up. Old Master Wu's brow furrowed; the disheveled man's actions couldn't help but make some guesses arise in his mind, though he couldn't be certain if his conjectures were true. Although he couldn't confirm the disheveled man's true intent, the fact that the disheveled man wasn't attacking should be considered a good thing for him. However, just at that moment, the space beside Old Master Wu suddenly rippled, then a crack appeared in the spatial fabric. Before a figure could emerge, a voice, laced with a smile, resounded through the area. "Long time no see, Demon Hunter."
