Chapter 142: You're Being Haunted

"Don't speak of people in the daytime, nor ghosts at night. Don't utter such nonsense," the older nurse said, casting a displeased glance at the younger nurse.

The young nurse stuck out her tongue and fell silent. Although the older nurse seemed quite amiable, the young nurse apparently listened to her intently, dutifully shutting her mouth.

"Sister Ping, you still believe in that? " Guo Yu asked with a smile, her mood seemingly improved.

"My husband was a soldier. He once told me something: 'The longer you're a soldier, the more afraid you become. ' Do you know why? " Sister Ping asked Guo Yu with a smile.

Guo Yu chuckled, not bothering to delve deeper into the meaning of the phrase. She merely laughed and asked, "Hehe, isn't your husband too timid? For a soldier to be so timid, isn't he a bit of a coward?"

Sister Ping didn't get angry; she simply smiled and turned to attend to her duties.

"Guo Yu, that's a hurtful thing to say. I know Sister Ping's husband; he's a very good person and very brave. Otherwise, why would Sister Ping have married him? " the young nurse beside them said.

Guo Yu looked glum. "I was just joking! Sister Ping shouldn't be angry, at least I would never get angry over a joke like that."

"You are you, and Sister Ping is Sister Ping. Just because you wouldn't get angry, does that mean Sister Ping won't either?"

Questioned like this by the young nurse, Guo Yu was at a loss for words. Just then, a patient came to ask a question, and both of them ceased their earlier conversation, attending to their respective tasks.

Time ticked by, drawing closer to midnight. The hospital grew quieter, with fewer and fewer incidents.

Guo Yu felt her eyelids growing heavy. This was her first night shift, and she was still somewhat unaccustomed to it. As midnight approached, she grew increasingly sleepy, so she returned to the workstation, intending to rest for a bit.

"Beautiful, beautiful, wake up."

In a daze, Guo Yu thought she heard someone calling her. She weakly lifted her head and looked forward, but there was no one outside the workstation.

She felt a little confused, thinking she had misheard, so she looked around again but saw no one, not even her other colleagues.

"Strange, did I mishear? But where did Sister Ping and the others go?"

Guo Yu couldn't quite figure it out. She was already extremely sleepy at this point, and since she couldn't figure it out, she was too lazy to think further. Just as she was about to close her eyes again, a person suddenly appeared outside the workstation.

Guo Yu was startled awake, her drowsiness vanishing instantly!

"What's wrong with you? ! Do you want to scare me to death?"

Regaining her composure, Guo Yu's face showed annoyance, and she couldn't help but complain.

The man who had suddenly appeared outside the workstation looked to be in his thirties, a bit rustic. Seeing Guo Yu's bad attitude, he didn't get angry, displaying a simple, honest smile on his face.

Guo Yu was generally quite brave; her earlier fright was purely a reflex. Anyone would be startled if something like that suddenly happened in the middle of the night.

She quickly recovered, looking at the simple, honest man before her with impatience.

She didn't give much thought to why the man had appeared so suddenly. In her view, she must have been dozing off and simply hadn't noticed, which was quite normal.

"What do you want? Don't just stand there smiling foolishly. If you have something to say, say it. Otherwise, leave at once," Guo Yu said impatiently.

"Hehehehe, I'm here to remind you: you're about to have some bad luck."

The man chuckled foolishly, then uttered these words to Guo Yu.

Guo Yu was already in a bad mood, and upon hearing the man's words, her entire face darkened.

"Are you mentally ill? I think you've come to the wrong place; we don't treat mental illness here," Guo Yu said coldly.

"Really, you're truly going to have bad luck. I'm not lying to you. You're being haunted by a ghost," the man said, his face still holding that simple, honest smile, as he spoke to Guo Yu.

To have a stranger say such a thing to her in the middle of the night, even though Guo Yu was quite brave and wouldn't be scared senseless, she still felt a prickle of unease.

"Get out of here at once! Don't cause trouble here, or I'll call someone to throw you out!"

The man seemed to pay no mind to Guo Yu's threat. He simply stared blankly at Guo Yu, his simple smile at this moment appearing strangely eerie and unsettling.

For some reason, Guo Yu, who was usually quite brave, felt a chill run down her spine when faced with the man's smile.

The man before her now made her feel incredibly uncomfortable. She couldn't understand why she felt such a sensation. Seeing that the man had no intention of leaving, she glared at him with disgust, then stood up to find her other colleagues.

After searching for a while, Guo Yu found no trace of her colleagues, which left her utterly perplexed, unable to figure out where they had gone.

"This is outrageous! They've all disappeared without a trace. What if a patient has an issue? Am I supposed to handle it all by myself?"

Thinking this, Guo Yu looked towards the workstation, annoyed, only to see the eerie man still standing outside, looking at her with that simple, honest smile.

At this moment, Guo Yu was almost certain that the man was, more likely than not, mentally unstable. For someone like that, she felt it was best to keep her distance, lest she be harmed.

"No wonder he gave me such an inexplicable sense of dread. Who isn't afraid of someone mentally ill? But this man does look somewhat familiar, like I've seen him somewhere before."

She pondered for a moment but couldn't recall where she had seen the man. Unable to figure it out, she gave up trying. After all, the hospital had such a high volume of people every day; it was entirely possible she had seen him before.

Thinking this, Guo Yu decided to go to the restroom to avoid him. If the man couldn't see her, perhaps he would leave. She certainly didn't want to waste any more time dealing with someone mentally unstable.

Upon entering the restroom, the prickly feeling in Guo Yu's heart didn't disappear; instead, it grew even stronger.

She didn't know why, but tonight, this restroom felt exceptionally cold and eerie.

She had been working here for some time and had used this restroom countless times, but never before had it given her such a chilling, terrifying sensation as it did tonight.

Recalling what the eerie man had just said to her—first that bad luck was coming, then that she was being haunted by a ghost—she couldn't help but shiver, instantly feeling the restroom grow even more sinister and terrifying.

She had initially planned to stay in the restroom for a while longer, figuring she would return once the man had left. But the current atmosphere made Guo Yu utterly lose the courage to remain. Her usual bravery was nowhere to be seen.

Humans are like that. In certain environments, once fear takes root, it becomes incredibly difficult to dispel, and it spreads and amplifies at an astonishing speed.

In that moment, Guo Yu's so-called courage and bravery were utterly destroyed.

She refused to stay in the restroom any longer, rushing out as if fleeing for her life!

The moment she burst out of the restroom, the scene before her made her scream.

Outside the restroom, a man was looking at her, a wide smile on his face.

This man was none other than the one who had been at the workstation earlier. Just like before, the man wore a smile on his face, but now it was no longer a simple, honest smile, but a twisted, sinister grin.

This smile gave Guo Yu an extreme sense of danger.

"What do you want to do?"

Guo Yu gathered her courage and asked the man. At the same time, she reached into her pocket to pull out her phone, ready to call the police at the first sign of trouble.

Her hand found no phone in her pocket, and her face instantly paled.

"It's over, did I leave my phone at the workstation?"

As Guo Yu thought this, the man was already approaching her, step by step.

"Don't come any closer! If you take another step, I'll scream!"

Guo Yu's words did not make the man stop. He continued to close in on her, step by step.

At this moment, Guo Yu's heart was gripped by panic. Without thinking, she immediately let out a piercing scream.

"Ah!"

The shrill scream echoed through the corridor, shattering the silence of the night. But what Guo Yu hadn't expected was that her scream seemed to have no effect whatsoever.

Because, as her scream faded, the floor remained eerily silent, as if there was no one else on it.

Besides her, there was only the man before her, his face twisted in a sinister grin.
