Chapter 141: Who Is Right, Who Is Wrong

Tianhe Hospital was the finest hospital in Lecheng. Compared to other hospitals in Lecheng, Tianhe Hospital surpassed them in facilities, environment, and the capabilities of its doctors.

Guo Yu was a nurse at Tianhe Hospital. Having just recently graduated, she was quite satisfied to have entered Tianhe Hospital, as its benefits and compensation were excellent. At least in Lecheng, Tianhe Hospital offered the best treatment compared to other hospitals.

Today was her first night shift since joining Tianhe Hospital, which stirred a sense of anticipation within her.

Most people inevitably feel a sense of novelty towards new experiences, and this excitement and freshness are strongest during a first-time experience.

During her time at Tianhe Hospital, the "old-timers" there would occasionally tell her ghost stories, specifically ones that had supposedly occurred within their very hospital. They narrated them vividly, complete with dates, locations, and characters — leaving nothing out.

Hospitals naturally had many strange phenomena, and numerous films and novels used them as settings for horror works. Guo Yu knew all this, so it was hardly surprising that these "old-timers" at the hospital had some chilling tales to tell.

However, whether it was the ghost stories told by the hospital's "old-timers" or the horror films and novels set in hospitals, Guo Yu always just watched or listened, never believing them.

If she truly believed in such things, she wouldn't have studied this profession, nor would she have come to work at a hospital after graduation. Otherwise, she would sooner or later develop a disorder. Even if real ghosts didn't scare her into trouble, her colleagues' constant stories certainly would.

In her opinion, her colleagues told these stories to a newcomer like her not just for idle amusement, but to scare her and then wait to see her become a laughingstock.

Thinking of this, Guo Yu's face twisted into a sneer. She felt her colleagues severely underestimated her. Whether or not ghosts existed in this world, even if they did, she believed she would never be afraid.

After getting off the bus, Guo Yu walked towards Tianhe Hospital. As she arrived at the main entrance, her brows couldn't help but furrow slightly.

Outside the hospital's main gate, a wreath had been placed, beneath which lay a photograph of the deceased. Several people stood before the wreath, lighting incense and candles, burning joss paper, and crying out in lament.

Among them, an old woman was the most distraught, her face drenched in tears as she wept most sorrowfully. Her aged features and disheveled hair made her appear utterly haggard and pitiful.

"Someone's making a scene at the hospital entrance again. These family members are truly something; they only know how to consider things from their own perspective and are never willing to think about us medical staff. It's fine if nothing happens, but as soon as something does, they cling to the hospital."

The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. With a stern face, Guo Yu marched towards the wreath.

"Hey, I say, aren't you going too far? Carrying on like this at our hospital entrance, people will misunderstand!"

Guo Yu, after all, had just left school. She lacked social experience and acted solely according to her own temperament.

If she felt something was right, then it was right, and she would stand by it.

If she felt something was wrong, then it was wrong, and she would seek to change it.

Therefore, at this very moment, from her perspective, she believed these people's actions were wrong. Thus, she wanted to drive them away, to prevent their behavior from negatively impacting the hospital.

Of course, Guo Yu also harbored her own little calculations. If she managed to drive these people away, would it count as a meritorious deed? Would she receive any rewards for it? Would it provide a certain boost to her future work at Tianhe Hospital?

Upon hearing Guo Yu's words, the deceased's family members instantly became agitated, yelling and cursing at her. Although she was in plain clothes, her words revealed her identity: she was from this hospital.

The deceased's family was already emotionally distraught due to excessive grief. With a hospital staff member appearing now, their emotions naturally became even more volatile, and their attitude turned hostile.

Guo Yu was no pushover; her temper was quite fiery. Seeing the other party being so unreasonable, she cast aside all reservations, adopting a combative stance and engaging them in a direct verbal brawl.

In just a few moments, both sides were red-faced from arguing, looking as if they were on the verge of coming to blows.

The security guard at the entrance seemed to recognize Guo Yu. Seeing the argument escalate, he quickly rushed over to mediate, restraining the agitated family members with one hand while attempting to forcibly lead Guo Yu away with the other.

"Don't stop me! They are truly too much! How can people be so utterly unreasonable? " Guo Yu roared at the family members while trying to break free from the security guard's grasp.

"Who's going too far? Who? It's your hospital that's going too far! Your hospital stands by and watches people die, and you dare call *us* too much? Do you have any conscience left? !"

One family member, highly emotional, clutched the deceased's portrait from the ground to their chest while roaring at Guo Yu, continuing to shout at her:

"Look at him! Look! He didn't have to die! If your hospital had given him timely resuscitation, would he have died in your hospital? !"

At this moment, Guo Yu was consumed by rage, her emotions completely out of control. Although she didn't know the full details of the incident, she strongly disapproved of the deceased's family causing a scene at the hospital entrance. With anger overriding her reason, she spat a mouthful of saliva onto the portrait.

"Bah! You're truly shameless!"

Her action completely enraged the deceased's family. Several people lunged forward to teach Guo Yu a lesson, and even the old woman picked up a stone from the ground and hurled it forcefully at Guo Yu.

The security guard's expression drastically changed. He knew that if he didn't get Guo Yu away, something serious would happen. So, disregarding Guo Yu's struggles, he forcibly carried her inside the hospital's main gate and decisively locked the door.

The deceased's family cursed furiously outside the door, while the security guard forcefully pulled Guo Yu to the side.

"You need to leave now. Don't let this escalate further; it will be hard to resolve then!"

Guo Yu was fuming. She hurled a few more angry curses at the deceased's family at the entrance before finally departing, her face still seething with rage.

The excitement and novelty of her first night shift had vanished, replaced only by fury. She arrived at her workstation, her face contorted with anger, drawing puzzled looks from her colleagues.

"Guo Yu, what's wrong? Who provoked you? You're so angry. " A young female nurse approached Guo Yu, asking with a mix of curiosity and concern.

"Don't even get me started. What terrible luck! Someone put a wreath at the hospital entrance, and when I told the deceased's family to leave, they were all so arrogant and unreasonable, each worse than the last. I almost got into a fight with them. " Guo Yu's anger hadn't subsided as she spoke, taking deep breaths.

The female nurse beside her showed an expression of understanding. She sighed and said, "Sigh, this isn't the first time something like this has happened. I can understand the feelings of the deceased's family, but they can't blame everything on our hospital, can they?"

"Exactly! I just couldn't stand it, so I confronted them! " Guo Yu quickly replied, as if she had found a kindred spirit.

Just then, another older nurse nearby also spoke up.

"I'm afraid you two aren't quite clear on the situation. Do either of you know why the patient's family is making a scene?"

These words immediately captured Guo Yu's attention. She looked at the nurse and said, "What? Did our hospital treat the deceased to death?"

Guo Yu's anger still simmered, and her words were laced with barbs; anyone could hear the fury in her voice.

The nurse was momentarily stunned. She hadn't realized this newcomer had such a hot temper before.

However, she didn't take Guo Yu's attitude to heart. Instead, she glanced around, lowered her voice, and continued, "The deceased's death actually has very little to do with our hospital. The person arrived with only a single breath left. In that situation, let alone a doctor, even an immortal couldn't have saved them. That's why the hospital refused treatment, and as a result, the patient died at our hospital."

Upon hearing her colleague's explanation, Guo Yu's anger not only didn't lessen but intensified. She angrily said, "What does that have to do with our hospital? Just because of that, they set up a wreath and made a scene at our hospital entrance? If that's not going too far, what is? !"

Guo Yu's voice was loud, as if only by speaking so could she fully unleash the fury within her.

"Keep your voice down," the nurse beside her quickly reminded her.

Guo Yu snorted coldly and remained silent, while the older nurse continued, "From our perspective, we certainly didn't do anything wrong. But have you ever considered this: if you were that patient's family member, what would you think?"

Guo Yu was stunned again, then she furrowed her brow and said nothing.

"At the time, the patient's family wasn't willing to give up. Even though the patient only had one last breath, they still wanted to try, hoping for a miracle to happen."

"But we knew that such a miracle couldn't possibly happen. And indeed, not long after, the patient truly passed away."

At this point, the older nurse sighed and continued, "Sigh, the reason the patient's family is making a scene is because, in their eyes, the hospital didn't even give them a chance. They don't understand medical expertise. In their view, as long as a person is sent to the hospital and is still alive, they should receive treatment, not be refused. If the hospital doesn't treat them, then it's the hospital's problem."

"Then, do you think treatment should have been given in that situation? " Guo Yu looked at the older nurse, asking with a frown.

The older nurse hesitated for a moment, then finally nodded and said, "In that situation, I think they should have been given a chance. The hospital refused because they were worried the patient would die there, and the family would then cause a big scene. However, by not admitting the patient, the family would make an even bigger fuss, just like this time."

Guo Yu shook her head, not agreeing with the older nurse's view. She said, "If the patient had been admitted in that situation, and then died in the hospital bed, and the family members unreasonably pushed all the blame onto the hospital, what then? It probably wouldn't be as simple as just a scene; there might even be a lawsuit!"

This time, it was the older nurse who fell silent.

"I just calculated the time, and it seems today is that deceased person's Head Seven. Do you think he might also come to the hospital with his family to cause trouble?"
