Chapter 664: Anchor
"Ah! My hand!"
The bearded uncle's words hadn't even finished echoing when he discovered his hand inexplicably began to cramp.
"Ah! My foot!"
His calf, too, failed to escape the calamity.
"Big sister's bad luck aura truly is something..." Lun Heping stifled a laugh from the side.
"Put the necklace on him."
Using the reclaimed Origin Stones as raw material, their family had prepared several necklaces inlaid with them, specifically to shield their friends from the ravages of bad luck.
......
"Finally, I'm alive again." The middle-aged man, drenched in sweat, slumped to the ground, panting raggedly, his body twitching convulsively.
After all, he was, at best, a mere foot soldier with physical attributes only slightly superior to an average person. Facing the malevolent misfortune that embodied the world's malice, he was as utterly insignificant as a speck of dust.
"Is there... something... trailing you?" Lun Heping, unusually sensitive to certain auras, vaguely sensed that something was amiss.
Whoosh...
The moment Lun Heping's words faded, a chilling gust swept through, extinguishing the living room lights and plunging their surroundings into darkness.
A chorus of sounds, like hushed whispers, began to swirl around everyone's ears.
"What the hell!" Lun Heping clenched the weapon at his waist with one hand, while the other gripped his sister's clothes in front of him. Goosebumps visibly erupted across his skin.
"They're here?" The burly middle-aged man showed not a shred of surprise at the situation.
"Could it be these ghosts are actually on our side?" Observing the man's demeanor, Lun Qin formed a small hypothesis of her own.
"Put on the Spirit Vision Goggles." The burly man retrieved several dive-mask-like objects from his backpack and casually tossed them to the two siblings.
......
"So many snowflakes... is the signal poor?"
Through the Spirit Vision Goggles, they witnessed an exceptionally horrifying sight: a swirling mass of blurry white shadows, ceaselessly circling them at breakneck speed!
They phased through walls, through tables, through doors; it seemed absolutely nothing could impede their movement.
"They are high-tier undead, formally Holy Progenitors just like us, intelligent beings capable of communicating with regular humans." The burly man began to explain.
For decades, every soul that perished on Earth had, through channels established by the Star Torch, been guided into the Wheel of Destiny Realm within the Nine Netherworlds, there to be ground into fragments by the Wheel of Destiny Realm's Yin-Yang Millstone.
These pure soul fragments would subsequently be scattered across the Soul Realm and the Boneyard Realm, serving as seeds for the birth of new Yin souls.
Among the countless muddled Yin souls, a fortunate few would, after devouring a sufficient number of their kind, awaken intelligence and ascend to become relatively high-tier undead.
Those brought to the Soul Palace for their education would ultimately become members of the Land of White's Yin aspect.
"So, they're permanent employees too?" Lun Qin seemed particularly preoccupied with her own temporary employee status.
"Yes, each and every one of them possesses their own official identity ID."
......
"But rest assured, temporary and permanent Holy Progenitors share no subordinate relationship. They won't order you about; ours is merely a temporary collaboration."
From his words, Lun Qin could discern that, compared to her, who also appeared human, the bearded man genuinely regarded those unseen specters as his true kin.
......
"Ah!" A piercing shriek tore through the air from the still-open inter-world gate.
A pale, bloodless arm clenched the edge of the magic array with desperate force.
Immediately thereafter, a head emerged from the center of the magic array, followed by an upper torso.
It was a disheveled woman clad in white, struggling fiercely to escape from within the gate.
The tableau bore an uncanny resemblance to Sadako.
"What ghoul is it this time?" After having been thoroughly shocked by ghosts once before, Lun Qin was practically immune to such apparitions, even contemplating lending a hand to the newcomer.
Lun Heping, however, standing behind her, remained visibly cowering before these fiends and monsters, bearing no resemblance whatsoever to a killer who had taken dozens of lives.
"No, I am human."
The second Holy Progenitor, who had initially resembled a female specter, began to tidy her disheveled hair after rising to her feet.
Lun Heping, who had initially not dared to meet her gaze, caught an accidental glimpse and, upon realizing she was a great beauty, instantly lost all trace of fear. He even cheerfully presented her with an 'anti-sister' necklace.
"This scoundrel is far too pragmatic..."
With the arrival of the second individual, the hastily erected inter-world gate array began to flash with a peculiar light, simultaneously emitting purple smoke, signaling its imminent collapse.
After all, it was merely an exit hastily assembled by an amateur; that it functioned at all was a testament to its makeshift success.
"I am Ziyan. Thank you for your cooperation." The newly arrived beauty was noticeably more aloof than the uncle had been, offering only a perfunctory word of thanks before gesturing for them to leave.
"Two people, eight ghosts... I wonder what sort of commotion they'll manage to stir up." Picking up the Spirit Vision Goggles the uncle had left them, the siblings watched as this group of ten individuals (?) gradually faded into the distance.
......
"Sis, you really ought to explain this to me now."
"System notification: Recommend a new user to register as a temporary member, and you will receive a 1 Contribution Point reward, along with an additional one ten-thousandth of the recommended party's personal mission income for one year."
Just as Lun Qin was still gathering her thoughts, deliberating how best to explain the entire situation to her brother, yet another message popped up from the system.
"Don't say another word. Here, give me your hand. First, register an account, and remember to use my referral code." She picked up a pen, jotted down a string of numbers on a piece of paper, then removed her earring, seized Lun Heping's left hand, and tapped his ring with the earring.
???"
"Once you're registered, big sister will come clean."
......
Lun Heping had absolutely no idea what was happening; completely bewildered, he completed the registration.
......
A surge of Qi Luck thus departed from his being, merging into Bai Mo's own.
"Can Qi Luck be harvested in such a manner?" Bai Mo, finally able to safely manifest on Water Blue Star, currently sat in a New York City café, deep in thought.
Promoting the temporary version of the Holy Progenitor System had originally been an unintentional act on his part. Yet, he hadn't anticipated that the fortuitous involvement of key protagonists could bring him such an unexpected delight.
As for the official Holy Progenitors, they would serve as stable anchors for his power on Water Blue Star.
With each additional individual who arrived on this planet, Bai Mo could steadily manifest an incremental increase in his power.
Ten Holy Progenitors could stabilize a power equivalent to that of ten individuals.
Only through this method could he utilize a portion of his abilities without bringing about the destruction of Water Blue Star.
The colossal power brought by Daoization was already beginning to spiral slightly out of control.
