Chapter 648: Coming Home

"Carrying this thing makes my shoulders a bit heavy." Lun Heping shrugged, and the two silicone pads on his chest bounced in response.

To completely change his image, not only was he forced to put on women's clothes, but he also had to strap on a set of fake breasts, and finally, slip a beautiful prosthetic human skin mask, also made of medical silicone, over his head.

After the full set of equipment was in place, Lun Heping looked in the mirror and instantly felt that even if his adoptive parents were resurrected, they wouldn't be able to recognize their own son.

"It seems... quite pretty, actually? Just a little stuffy." The boy (girl) scrutinized the face in the mirror, his thoughts gradually spiraling towards an abyss.

This prosthetic human skin mask, which Qin had bought online, was crafted entirely according to the standard "influencer face" aesthetic, specifically designed to cater to mainstream male preferences. It was only natural that Lun Heping would find it appealing.

...

"The car's here."

In the distance, a taxi hailed via an app slowly pulled up.

"Get in."

"Mm, okay!"

As he was about to get into the car, Lun Heping suddenly noticed something.

The lingering, unshakeable bad luck that plagued everyone in the hospital had, surprisingly, not descended upon him.

"Perhaps the women's clothing itself is a manifestation of bad luck..." he muttered, comforting himself as he adjusted the wig and silicone mask on his head and climbed into the car.

...

"Finally, I'm back in the city alive."

When he got out of the car, Lun Heping almost burst into tears.

Also on the verge of tears was the driver, sitting in the driver's seat, questioning his life choices.

On the way back from Ziluolan Hospital, the car had two flat tires. While changing the tires, four particularly difficult-to-wash bird droppings arrived; three splattered on the windshield, and another one, had he not dodged quickly, would have landed directly on the driver's head.

Furthermore, along the way, he nearly ran over three stray dogs, and twice came within three centimeters of being rear-ended.

The driver was on the verge of a breakdown.

All the misfortunes that might not accumulate in a year had befallen him on this single, short ride.

So even though he had two beautiful girls in the backseat, it didn't cheer him up much.

...

"Sis, the apartment upstairs is yours?"

"Otherwise?"

Lun Qin pressed "8" in the elevator.

"Be careful, the elevator might have issues," she warned with a smile beforehand.

Lun Qin was well aware of her terrifying destructive power. Her bad luck aura would inflict indiscriminate harm on those around her, yet she herself seemed immune to it.

After the murder, Lun Heping, who had originally lived with his adoptive parents, had no home to return to and could only rely on this "convenient" older sister for the time being.

But to this day, he still couldn't fathom how he had placed his last hope in someone who had lived in a mental institution for over a decade...

...

"Finally, I can take off this headpiece."

As soon as they entered, Lun Heping eagerly pulled off the beautiful headpiece.

Although the influencer face looked quite beautiful, the sensation of silicone against his skin always felt a bit strange, and he remained somewhat resistant to pretending to be a woman.

"What do you plan to do next?"

Lun Qin leaned back on the sofa, casually twisted open a bottle of mineral water, and lightly rested her right foot over her left, her posture quite relaxed.

"I want to find out the truth. They can't just die without answers!"

"And then? How will you find it?"

She gulped down a large mouthful of water, completely devoid of any ladylike image.

"..."

"..."

The atmosphere suddenly turned awkward; the conversation had died a quiet death.

"I... I'll wear this getup to investigate!" After a few seconds of silence, Lun Heping pointed to the headpiece carelessly tossed on the table.

It was only then that he remembered: as a murder suspect wanted by the Seris Empire, he now had trouble even going out, let alone conducting any investigations.

"Whatever," Lun Qin said, putting down her mineral water and walking into her room alone.

"Your room's next door," a voice called out from her room after a rustling sound of changing clothes.

...

"The adoptive parents of this body truly did their utmost; they even left a house for their adopted daughter, who they sent to a mental institution, to live out her old age."

Lun Qin, now changed into casual clothes, muttered to herself as she combed her hair.

This apartment was something Lun Qin's adoptive parents had left for her. The old couple had worried that after their deaths, their adopted daughter, who suffered from intermittent mental instability, would end up on the streets, so they prepared a home for her.

Unfortunately, what was perceived as intermittent mental illness was actually the process of Luo Xiaoyu, a transmigrator from another world, taking over Lun Qin's original body.

After years of repeated torment, Lun Qin had continually exhibited normal behavior interspersed with periods of abnormality. Her exasperated adoptive parents finally sent her to Ziluolan Hospital for quiet recuperation.

It was only just before they were about to send her to the mental institution that Lun Qin's adoptive parents considered adopting another child, and that fortunate child was Lun Heping.

"If possible, I'll avenge you."

The girl lightly clenched her fist.

The adoptive parents' kindness was shown to the original owner of this body; ultimately, she was just an outsider who had usurped another's nest. Repaying them within her capabilities would be enough.

...

"Sis! Come quick!"

With a bang, Lun Qin's room door was roughly flung open.

"My dear brother, can't you wait? Are you already making a move on your sister?" The girl giggled, lightly covering her mouth.

"The Origin Stone is bubbling!"

Lun Heping ignored the teasing and, using his cloth-wrapped hand, picked up a seemingly unremarkable crystal.

"They gave it to you?"

Gazing at the bubbling Origin Stone before her, the girl's expression grew serious.

Many years ago, she had learned that her bad luck aura wasn't effective against everyone. As long as someone carried an Origin Stone on them, the Origin Stone would continuously neutralize the aura's power at the cost of its own depletion.

Her adoptive parents had also survived the terrifying power of this aura precisely because they both wore jewelry inlaid with Origin Stones.

"They didn't give it to me. This is something I got from *her* parents, and I almost lost my life getting it.

A person wearing a cat mask tried to kill me and steal this Origin Stone, but at the last moment, *she* saved me."

"You've said so much, so who is 'she'?"

"Her name is Hui..." Lun Heping stammered.

"Your little lover?"

"Sis, you..."

"Looks like it hasn't happened yet. At best, she's a backup." Before Lun Heping could continue, Lun Qin cut off her brother.

"Sis, you're too much!"

"But you didn't deny it."

"..."

"Oh, my foolish brother, according to my calculations, you only have two months left during which you can approach me." Lun Qin held the Origin Stone in one hand and rubbed Lun Heping's head with the other.

"This broken stone can only ensure your safety for two months at most."

"Huh?!"

Lun Heping never imagined that he would only have this much time left.

He was just an ordinary high school student, and his adoptive parents' assets couldn't be touched due to the parricide charges. If he couldn't cling to this "convenient" older sister, how else was he supposed to live?
