Chapter 474: Madness

"It has begun!"

At the same moment, dozens of Void Worm Project strongholds, located in different regions, began their final work.

There was not a single superfluous word, nor a trace of unnecessary hesitation. Those with dissenting thoughts had long since been memory-wiped and dispatched.

Everyone, without delay, activated the switches buried within their bodies. They quietly awaited their transformation into wisps of light, to fly along the planned trajectory toward a fated destination.

Central United States, Xierdesi Laboratory.

Within this colossal underground city, dozens of experts from the United States' superhuman power domain were now gathered. Yet, to call these individuals madmen would not be inaccurate.

They intently watched a cylindrical cultivation pod in the center, their clenched, subtly trembling hands betraying their turbulent emotions.

Immersed within the cultivation pod, filled with fluorescent green liquid, were five sleeping young people—three men and two women. Through numerous tubes behind them, they were linked to the control nexus at the base.

Above the colossal cylinder, an umbrella-shaped opening waited. The exit, previously sealed with multiple layers of special materials, had been opened, anticipating the faint lights arriving from all directions.

"Void Worm... we will surely succeed!" Filled with confidence, the crowd, from the instant Tang Na Sen sent the signal, fixated on the cylinder with an almost fanatical gaze, without a moment's pause.

To the surrounding researchers, the five bodies floating in the green liquid were, at this moment, priceless treasures, for they bore the hopes of everyone present for the practical application of spatiotemporal exploration.

"Soon, we will realize our dream of traversing dimensions!"

Ten seconds later, the first wisp of light arrived.

It plunged headfirst into the body of one of the girls, causing countless pores on her skin, originally imperceptible to the naked eye, to mutate into tiny suction cups, like miniature sunflowers.

Yet, the sleeping girl seemed to experience no pain; her relaxed brow, on the contrary, suggested a serene joy.

Soon, using these suction cups as mouths, tentacles, looking strikingly like lampreys when magnified, began to burst forth from various parts of her body!

These minute tentacles somewhat resembled muscle fibers, yet their surface was covered with a slick, luminous membrane. Ignoring their color, they actually bore little difference to special effects hair.

They rapidly extended outwards, absorbing all available nutrients, including, of course, the people nearby.

Bundle after bundle of tentacles began to envelop the other four individuals, appearing as if they regarded them all as food.

However, within a few seconds, the second ray of light arrived at the laboratory. This time, it plunged into the body of a boy.

The same transformation occurred on the boy. Innumerable thread-like tentacles, mutated from his pores, swiftly covered his entire body...

The third.

The fourth.

The fifth.

The sixth.

...

Individuals who had voluntarily sacrificed themselves in various secret strongholds, transformed into radiance, arrived successively at the Xierdesi Laboratory, injecting themselves into the bodies of the young men and women, turning the cultivation vessel into a chaotic arena of tentacles.

The five subjects no longer bore any resemblance to humans. The tentacles erupting from their bodies completely intertwined, wrapping around and penetrating one another, eventually forming several pinkish masses.

The fluorescent green in the culture fluid had significantly faded, replaced instead by a red hue, mingled with fresh blood.

"The Tang Na De family's contribution to this project ought to be recorded in history," an excited researcher with shining eyes declared.

"Exactly!"

"How could those fools who fled to the Moon ever comprehend our greatness? Exiling him was merely a convenient small objective; the Void Worm Project, however, is humanity's leap forward!"

Over the years, Tang Na De had, through various channels, collected extensive data regarding Ying Huo, the apple tree demon responsible for Maysuo's destruction.

His initial objective, alongside his team, was to restore Ying Huo—a weapon powerful enough to annihilate humanity—and transform it into a superweapon for humanity's conquest of the stars.

Naturally, this endeavor was not without the support of Ramdo, who was reduced to mere fragments of his divinity, and the Ying Huo trees silently regenerating in forests across the globe.

Later, when the White Terror descended, under the guidance of certain influential figures, Tang Na De proposed to the United States government that his Ying Huo restoration project could be altered into the Void Worm Project, aimed at banishing that individual.

From that point on, he took the lead in all matters related to the project, even personally persuading five spatial-ability superhumans, including his own two children, to voluntarily participate in the experiment and become the core of the Void Worm Project.

...

"Continue adding molecular inducers and organic matter! Our time is running out; that individual has surely detected part of the truth!"

Several researchers, busy yet orderly, continued their work, their eyes occasionally glancing towards the colossal cultivation pod in the center, a hint of reverence in their gaze.

The commingled mass of flesh continued to brandish a multitude of tentacles, indiscriminately and ravenously absorbing nutrients.

The fusion of the five individuals was nearing its conclusion; the core of the Void Worm was about to take shape.

However, to say it was merely the fusion of five people wasn't entirely accurate, for the hundreds of superhumans from around the world who had voluntarily transformed into light and become part of the Void Worm were also integrated.

Unbeknownst to them, the cultivation vessel, made of multiple layers of tempered glass, was silently sliced open, and a light-green liquid, mixed with pink, began to flow out.

But this liquid did not spill onto the floor as it normally would; instead, it drifted towards the floating, tentacled, flocculent mass in mid-air.

The tentacles, originally as fine as hair, had now thickened to the consistency of noodles. Coupled with their pinkish-red hue, they looked strikingly like a colossal heap of spaghetti with tomato sauce.

This "Void Worm's" original form completed its displacement from inside the cultivation vessel to mid-air by distorting space.

"We are fortunate to witness this moment."

All the people in the Xierdesi Laboratory were now gathered together, holding hands, gazing up at the Void Worm's original form floating in mid-air.

Then, they activated the high-frequency Spirit Energy resonance towers buried in the foundation, preparing for the final step.

"Warning! A self-destruct level Spirit Energy impact is imminent!"

"Repeat! Warning! A self-destruct level Spirit Energy impact is imminent!" Piercing alarm bells echoed throughout the entire base.

...

A group of mad experimenters, just like Tang Na De, smiled as they allowed the rampaging, immense Spirit Energy to engulf both themselves and it.
