Chapter 222: Knowing
Several colossal beasts took nearly ten seconds just to turn their massive bodies around.
Ten seconds was already far too long for Bai Mo. In that time, he could have reached the brain bug. Watching it, surrounded by a swarm of insect-like creatures, he stood silently at the core of the great array.
"It's too late," Seres transmitted, its fluctuations laden with resentment. Anyone whose plan, after mobilizing countless forces and spending several years, only yielded thirty percent of its intended effect, wouldn't be in a good mood.
The few beasts before him looked entirely different from the other Sea Race creatures, even from modern Earth organisms. So Bai Mo unconsciously asked, "Are you aliens?"
The brain bug didn't answer, but the violent tremors on the seabed seemed to explain everything.
Scattered bubbles continuously emerged, and the entire seabed seemed poised for another terrifying eruption.
Seres stood in the center, while its six guards positioned themselves at the six corners, forming a neat hexagon.
Bai Mo also noticed they were all standing within a strictly defined perimeter. He guessed that something rather unpleasant was surely about to happen within this range, otherwise this brain bug, which definitely didn't look like a mere minion, wouldn't still be standing there motionless.
So he used the abilities of his Heavenly Net to scan his opponent and its subordinates, receiving a significant amount of fragmented but shocking information.
With a thought, he once again armed himself with Xuanhua, preparing to violently smash his way through them.
"Bang bang bang bang bang!" The instant Bai Mo deployed his Xuanhua, an incalculable number of explosions erupted on the seabed, releasing an astronomical amount of methane.
Simultaneously, all Sea Race units received an order to withdraw on their own, and immediately, countless Sea Race creatures, deprived of leadership and command, fell into complete disarray.
The colossal beasts that had originally intended to pursue Bai Mo also fled because of this order, as the surging hidden power around them filled them with dread, extinguishing any interest they had in chasing Bai Mo further.
The scattering monsters and the continuously emerging mass of bubbles caught the vanguard teams of Ability Users, who had just organized their forces and were preparing to plunge into the seabed, completely off guard.
A strange, dark green energy began to surge from the positions of the seven bugs, primarily from the central magical array, but the volume of the energy column in the middle alone already accounted for seventy percent of the total.
Upon coming into contact with this energy, the six monsters on the periphery all began to evolve, their bodies growing larger, their colors deepening, and so on.
"Boom!"
"Boom!"
Bai Mo controlled his colossal Xuanhua, slamming it against the outer psychic power wall again and again, but with minimal effect. Physical attacks seemed ineffective at breaking this kind of defense.
"Give up, mere human..." Seres, indulging itself in the center, even threw in a taunt.
Although its primary ability was also psychic power, its inherent stat distribution was almost entirely focused on defense, so it hadn't paid much attention to the details of the psychic power defense. Only after several punches did it realize it was a psychic power wall.
"Pity, of all things, it had to be a psychic power wall."
He began to permeate the defensive wall with his own psychic power, using the same type of force to slowly dismantle the wall itself. The battle instantly transformed into a pure contest of psychic power.
"How is this possible!" Seres never imagined its luck could be so terrible; a rare Ability User had attacked it, and just happened to be a psychic power wielder...
Although it could sense that going all out would give it an advantage over its opponent, doing so would inevitably delay its recovery progress. So, it conceived another plan: it pretended to slowly succumb, gradually releasing the protective wall around the six outer bugs.
Bai Mo also hadn't expected his opponent to go easy on him at such a critical moment, allowing him to break through the defense little by little. Therefore, he also exerted his full strength, dismantling the defenses of the six outer bugs.
Without this layer of psychic power protection, how could the six outer bugs possibly be his opponents?
They were only three meters in size, not even on the same order of magnitude as his Xuanhua, which was tens of meters in diameter. In Bai Mo's eyes, the enemy, from beginning to end, was only the brain bug still within the central protective wall.
But just as he swatted away the six guardian bugs one by one, a small amount of the dark green energy beneath them, unintentionally guided by his energy-absorbing aura, floated towards Bai Mo.
Feeling the vast, continuously dissipating power contained within, he felt a warmth akin to a spring breeze caressing his face. Every cell in his body cried out to devour it.
But one of the biggest differences between intelligent beings and other creatures is that they don't fully obey their bodily instincts; they can restrain certain desires.
Although he watched the alien bug, separated by just a wall, greedily absorbing this energy and its own power clearly expanding, Bai Mo maintained his fundamental caution. He understood the principle that what was their immortal medicine might be his poison.
Plants can thrive by absorbing biological waste, but humans certainly can't grow strong by eating that stuff.
So he casually grabbed a fish, made it eat the energy mass, and instantly turned the area into a temporary laboratory.
After absorbing the green energy, the fish looked slightly larger than before, and it also began to actively devour other free-floating energy masses.
"This excessively cautious fellow! Still pointlessly wasting the energy I meticulously prepared."
"Large Human Federation forces are approaching from above." Seres, with its terrifying psionic perception, could already sense the encirclement on the surface of the sea from the seabed.
So, disregarding that it had only absorbed eighty percent of the planned energy for recovery, it began a rapid retreat. Still not fully recovered from its injuries, it had no intention of fighting the humans to the bitter end.
It had originally thought the enemy before it would try to intercept it with full force, but instead, he didn't even spare it a glance. He was merely conducting various experiments on the dark green energy under the protection of his thick Xuanhua, never even trying to absorb a tiny bit of the energy himself.
"Explode!" Since its mission was complete and its trick had failed, it detonated all the deployed materials as it left, intending to destroy all traces.
Due to the immense power of Seres' main body, Bai Mo had only obtained fragmented information about it through his Heavenly Net, and still understood little about this wildly imaginative plan.
Although he noticed a large number of bubbles emerging, he didn't know what his opponent had actually released. Lacking information in this regard, he truly couldn't guess that Seres would use a roundabout method like the greenhouse effect to deal with humanity.
"But you used nuclear bombs to blow up my home; that, I know." Bai Mo transformed a corner of his Xuanhua into a giant javelin, thrusting it towards the fleeing brain bug.
