Chapter 169: The Deal
"Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!" The blossoms of blood brought forth by the bullets finally startled awake the remaining few armed thugs who had intended to resist to the very end.
Faced with such a monster, whom ordinary people simply couldn't contend with, they scattered like startled birds and beasts.
Bai Mo walked on, occasionally spotting corpses, giving the impression that the apocalypse had arrived, though it was truly hard to say who played the zombies and who played the humans.
"Get out!"
"This isn't where you belong!"
"You scum!"
Just as he neared his destination, he saw two groups engaged in fierce combat: on one side were five white Ability Users leading a mob of armed thugs; on the other were his target, Su Ya, and three Asian Ability Users, defending desperately with a group of young people.
Seeing the unfamiliar East Asian face suddenly appear behind them, the thugs didn't even bother to ask a question, directly opening fire on Bai Mo, interspersed with Spirit Arts fireballs.
Allowing these futile attacks to land around him, Bai Mo used his psychic powers to whip up a gale, then tore up a nearby wall and swung it around himself a few times, knocking away all attacks before abruptly releasing it, letting the immense centrifugal force propel massive chunks of concrete flying towards the group.
Even so, they felt a surge of retreat. After all, these people were just looking to grab some loot amidst the chaos; they weren't professional soldiers.
"Too tough to handle, retreat!"
"You bastard, Huaxia devil!"
A rabble of disorganized individuals, even if they had gained greater power, couldn't shake their thug habits; only able to fight when things were going their way, the moment they encountered something tricky, they immediately prepared to withdraw, shouting insults as they fled.
"Seems I didn't gauge the force correctly."
Just as the loudest-mouthed individual opened his mouth to utter the sound "ma," Bai Mo hurled a steel rebar like a javelin, piercing precisely through his open mouth, before the rebar shot out, leaving a gaping hole in his nape.
"What tenacious vitality." The Ability User whose throat had been pierced through, supported by his companions, was astonishingly still able to clutch his wound and continue fleeing, which surprised Bai Mo for half a second.
However, he chose not to pursue them further, because a faint premonition of danger suddenly arose in his mind. Compared to a premonition that could pose a threat to himself, letting a few small fries go was utterly insignificant.
The people who had been stubbornly resisting, seeing the sudden, gale-like powerful reinforcement drive away their enemies in mere seconds, all secretly breathed a sigh of relief; their pressure had simply been too immense before.
"Hello."
Bai Mo walked straight towards Su Ya, not even sparing a glance for anyone else.
"Excuse me, who are you? Have we met somewhere before?" Su Ya suddenly felt that the man before her was a little familiar.
"Who I am is not important. I'm just here to make a deal with you."
"What kind of deal?"
"Currently, there are a total of seven Ability Users with Life Fields in this city. You have two here, and the remaining five are all your enemies. I don't believe you can safely escort the group of elderly, weak, sick, and disabled out of this country."
"If you eat this, I can promise to bring all of them back to our country." Bai Mo took out a silver pill from a box. "You have ten seconds to consider."
"What if I refuse?" Looking at the item that was clearly no ordinary pill, she felt that the other party had instantly transformed from an angel saving people from distress into a devil, using his favor as a threat.
"Actually, there is no option to refuse. I'm only giving you ten extra seconds because I'm in a good mood today."
She also understood clearly that in this nationwide racial expulsion riot, the main objective of the thugs was robbery, and the casualties caused in the process were largely outside their consideration.
This place was thousands of kilometers from the U.S.-Mexico border. Su Ya had risked returning, originally intending only to rescue her family in Orleans, but unexpectedly, the minority ethnic groups here, to protect their property and lives, had formed a defensive alliance in the settlement, and she had been persuaded by the alliance members to act as a crucial combat force for their defense.
Outbound flights had long ceased operation, and she had relied on her own jeep to rush into the city back then.
"There are over three hundred people here. No matter how powerful you are alone, you can't take all of them away."
"At the northern airport, a Huaxia Ministry of Foreign Affairs plane is parked. Alright, ten seconds are up."
"Why should we trust you?"
"I am the proof."
"Take us to the airport, and then I'll eat it."
"Very well, I'll give you five minutes to organize."
Inside the makeshift fortifications, a few gossips watched the two communicating via mental waves.
"What do you think that guy and Sister Su Ya are doing, exchanging glances like that?"
"Could they be old lovers? Otherwise, why would he suddenly come here to rescue people?"
"Hmm, quite possible. But this person looks so young; I didn't expect Sister Ya to have such a young lover."
"Stop gossiping needlessly. You've also witnessed how terrifying that long-haired man was just now, driving them all away in just a few moves. If he really started fighting, tying us all together wouldn't be enough to take one of his punches."
"Xiao Hui, give me a walkie-talkie." Su Ya suddenly appeared behind the whispering group, giving them a huge fright.
"Here." Feeling the hand that was "gently" rubbing her shoulder, she nervously handed the walkie-talkie from her person to Su Ya.
"This is Su Ya! Everyone gather now! There's a plane at the northern airport to pick us up, departing in five minutes, no waiting for latecomers!" Through the walkie-talkie, she announced this message to everyone in the settlement.
"Really?"
"It should be true. Just now, a really powerful person drove all those thugs away; the country must have sent him to rescue us."
"Thank the motherland! They still remember us wanderers."
"Stop talking and hurry up and pack! We're leaving in five minutes."
With hope rekindled, old and young alike picked up their belongings, preparing to leave; over three hundred people formed a small team and began heading towards the northern airport.
"Hand over all your valuables, then get out of this country!" Just as the group passed through the city center, almost all the thugs in the city surrounded them, their leader, an Ability User, shouted.
"That's right!"
"Leave the money, then get out!"
After their leader spoke, the people below him also began to jeer.
"You're in the way."
Bai Mo flew out from the middle of the group, his finger twitching as if popping bubbles, detonating all enemies not protected by a Life Field, one by one.
Exploding from the inside out, hundreds of armed thugs cracked open like porcelain, blood gushing from the fissures that covered their entire bodies. In a mere few seconds, only five people remained standing on the opposing side.
