Chapter 170: Collection Complete
"You! How dare you break the rules! You're finished! No one, above or below, can save you now!" Staring at the dead bodies strewn across the ground, blood flowing to form small streams, the few remaining leading ability users looked utterly bewildered.
"Rules?"
"The rules set by the higher-ups were to only seek profit, to minimize harm, not to commit mass murder... No, what did you do to me!" After babbling incoherently for a moment, the leading ability user suddenly realized he seemed to have been mentally influenced, revealing many things he shouldn't have.
"But what does that have to do with me?" As he spoke, Bai Mo's right hand had already plunged into one of their bodies. "All Spirit Hubs already recorded, no value."
Watching the madman before them, who could tear people apart like plastic bags without a flicker of emotion, the remaining four chose not to continue engaging him. Instead, they fled desperately, utterly lacking the courage to turn and fight.
"Run! As long as we can reach the western villa district, we'll be safe!" Facing an unmatchable foe, the few individuals instantly accelerated to speeds comparable to a normal car, fleeing towards the west.
"Too slow."
The remaining few were thirty to forty meters away from Bai Mo, but for mid-to-high-tier ability users with astonishing movement speeds, this distance was no different from being face-to-face. In less than ten seconds, the other four had all been killed, one by one.
"Why aren't you moving?" Bai Mo gently wiped the blood from his hands with his psychic power, then asked Su Ya, who was leading the group.
"They... many of them can't move anymore." She pointed behind her.
Behind Su Ya, many people were vomiting due to the hellish scene before them.
"Those who don't continue walking can stay here and keep them company." Bai Mo's words echoed chillingly in the ears of every living person.
Under the threat of death, even those who felt the most nauseous forced themselves to pinch their noses and cross the area filled with corpses.
"Why can you kill so many people without batting an eye?" Su Ya, walking ahead, asked Bai Mo beside her.
"I merely diverted the blood surging within their bodies to continue surging outside; my perception isn't significantly different, so why would there be any psychological pressure?"
The two walked ahead, conversing, while those behind them whispered amongst themselves.
"This path isn't as easy as we imagined."
"These robbers, either they die or we die. There's nothing to pity. As long as there's truly a plane waiting for us there, who cares who the leader is?"
...
"To allow gangs and mutated thugs from the lower strata to collude like this, initiating a mass movement to carry out racial expulsion, whoever thought this up certainly knows how to play the game."
"According to them, almost all the police have gone to the wealthy residential areas in the west of the city to maintain order. It's estimated that after the minority groups leave, all their remaining properties and shops will be carved up by local capital. No wonder it's been so smooth; ultimately, for them, it's a carnival of plunder."
The group arrived at the small airport located in the northern part of the city. Just as when Bai Mo had first disembarked, the runway was deserted, with only a single plane standing isolated on it.
"Mr. Bai." The flight crew member in charge of receiving Bai Mo stepped forward. "As per your previous instructions, the plane has been fully refueled."
"Mm, arrange for these people to be sent to Mo Xi Country in several batches."
"Understood. Do you have any other arrangements for yourself?"
"Don't mind me. You go complete this mission first."
"Yes, sir!"
Upon seeing the plane before them, the group, having traveled so far, finally truly relaxed. After days of unrest and riots, as a persecuted group, most of them had been in a state of high tension and had barely slept soundly.
"Here's the medicine. Take it, then go into that room." With a flick of Bai Mo's finger, a silver-white pill landed in front of Su Ya.
"Though I don't know what you're up to, a person like me, who even has children, has nothing left to lose." Watching her children and parents board the plane, Su Ya swallowed the pill whole and then walked into the room.
The pill's main component was a powerful anesthetic. As soon as she entered the room, she began to feel a little disoriented. After stumbling for two or three steps, her legs gave out, and she lost consciousness. The last glimpse from the corner of her eye happened to catch Bai Mo's smile...
"The dosage might be a bit insufficient." After Su Ya lost consciousness, Bai Mo injected her with an additional syringe of specialized anesthetic.
Taking a surgical knife from his specialized briefcase, he began the final Spirit Hub transplant.
Long before coming to the United States, he had already meticulously planned every step of the surgery based on the data he had collected. As a researcher who had dissected an untold number of people, Bai Mo's understanding of the human body could only be described with the idiom 'Butcher Ding's skill'.
His Spirit Energy-enhanced brain granted him an increasingly terrifying memory. After more than half a year of theory and practice, he could now recall every detail of the human body. As soon as he scanned an ability user with his divine sense, the corresponding Spirit Hub excision technique would immediately appear in his mind.
Throughout the surgery, Bai Mo continuously used his psychic power to control the flow of blood near the incision. Even the severed capillaries had their blood flowing slowly from one side of the cut to the other, as if along an invisible track. Under his control, not a single drop of blood was spilled during the entire operation.
After stitching the wound, he injected a test tube of recovery agent, extracted from a vampire, into Su Ya's body, allowing the superficial wound to heal rapidly.
"Now it's my turn."
After seeing her onto the plane, Bai Mo began his own surgery.
Originally, according to his plan, he should have flown back to Tianqing and performed the transplant in the safest underground laboratory. However, when he just interacted with the flight crew, he was surprised to find that the co-pilot was emitting a red glow of hostility towards him. Combining this with his earlier uneasy premonition, he decided to complete the transplant immediately, to avoid complications from a prolonged delay ('long nights, many dreams').
After performing local anesthesia on himself, Bai Mo expertly controlled the surgical knife to cut open his own body, connecting the final Spirit Hub, named Divine Serenity, with the incomplete Divine Wind Clear Moon.
Once the last piece of the puzzle was complete, Bai Mo instantly shattered the lingering will, and Spirit Energy began to circulate throughout the entire Spirit Picture. He could feel that as the Spirit Energy cycled round and round, the Divine Wind Clear Moon was slowly integrating into a true, singular entity.
Massive amounts of Spirit Qi continuously poured into his body through every pore of his skin. Having the experience from completing the Cavernous Sky Profound stage, he also took out the large quantity of Spirit Stones he had prepared beforehand and placed them around him.
As the Spirit Stones around him gradually turned into ordinary rocks, this breakthrough neared its end. There were no dazzling light and shadow effects like last time, because all unnecessary Spirit Energy consumption had been reabsorbed and utilized by his energy-absorbing skin.
After collecting the Spirit Hubs, a process that had gone through numerous twists and turns, he quietly completed his breakthrough, without disturbing anyone.
