Chapter 496: Pokemon master of tactics: Chapter 496 |
The Flygon couldn't help but believe, at least for a moment, what the human in front of her was saying.
There had been no hesitation in his voice and no visible deception in his expression, so she started to believe his words a bit.
She thought for a few seconds before finally saying, "I'll convince my mate to hide in another area for six days. I've already know a place where we won't be easily found."
She paused briefly before continuing, "On the seventh day, my pack and I will return to our territory so we can meet you there."
Alex listened carefully. It wasn't the best plan in his opinion. Moving around like that could still leave traces. also, six days might not be enough to be completely safe.
But he didn't say any of that out loud.
Instead, he simply smiled and replied, "Alright, then we have a deal. We'll meet again in seven days."
The Flygon nodded once before slowly backing away, her eyes never leaving Alex and his Pokémon until she had created enough distance.
Then, without another word, she let out a deep, commanding roar and shot into the sky, flying straight toward the city, the same direction her mate had gone.
Instead of following her, they scattered in the opposite direction, fleeing away from the human city as if an invisible pressure had been lifted from them.
Alex didn't make any move to stop her. Even though it was technically his duty, he remained completely still.
Of course, he was aware that this could cause problems with the Alliance if it was reported properly, but he had already thought of a way to minimize the consequences.
He would simply claim that the Flygon had been too fast for his team to intercept, that attempting to chase it would have risked leaving his position undefended, and that his priority had been to secure the area.
Since it had been the only Pokémon capable of breaking through his defense, and since he had been assigned one of the most dangerous positions, his explanation would be reasonable enough.
And He already had a second plan.… Alex glanced briefly at Sophie.
He and his Pokémon returned to their positions and waited in silence, watching as individual Pokémon continued to wander through the area.
Even though the Flygon had withdrawn from the main attack, Alex knew that didn't mean the raid was over.
Once a Pokémon raid reached a certain point, it became a chain reaction that couldn't simply be stopped by removing a single leader.
Not that it mattered much.
From his experience, these events rarely lasted long and this one already felt like it was nearing its end.
After a short while, Alex turned his head toward Sophie and smiled. He called out casually, "Hey, I need to talk to you about something. Can you come here for a second?"
Sophie froze for a brief moment when she saw that smile. She hesitated, clearly debating whether it would be smarter to keep her distance or even run away.
But then her gaze shifted to Gardevoir standing calmly beside him, her presence alone enough to make escape feel like a bad idea.
Sophie swallowed nervously. A fearful expression appeared on her face, her eyes already slightly watery as she forced out an answer.
"…Gladly."

POV: Drake
Drake and his team of flying Pokémon immediately engaged the mutated Flygon in battle high above the city.
From the very beginning, something felt off.
He quickly noticed that, aside from his Salamence at level 67, the rest of his Pokémon were barely able to deal any meaningful damage to this monster. That alone was strange enough to make him frown.
Drake knew from experience that wild Pokémon, even at the same level, were usually slightly weaker than those trained by humans. A level 69 wild Pokémon would typically only be comparable to a level 68 trainer Pokémon.
That was the general rule. But this Flygon clearly didn't follow that rule.
His level 54 and 55 Pokémon were doing almost nothing to it, their attacks barely leaving visible Injuries.
Still, Drake wasn't in a losing position. His ace wasn't weak, and with the support of his other Pokémon, he was able to maintain pressure. The battle quickly turned into a balanced exchange, where neither side could gain a clear advantage.
It was the kind of fight where a single mistake would decide everything.
Drake, who was used to overwhelming most opponents once he committed his main team, couldn't help but feel impressed.
This Flygon wasn't just strong because of its level.
Its mutated form clearly enhanced its overall combat ability, making it stronger than most Pokémon of the same level. At this point, Drake wouldn't have been surprised if it could even defeat a level 70 wild Pokémon.
In the middle of the battle, his Salamence surged forward and used Dragon Claw.
The Flygon responded with its own Dragon Claw.
The two attacks collided in midair, both Pokémon striking each other at the same time.
Salamence took more damage from the exchange, his body recoiling under the force, but that wasn't all.
Drake's other Pokémon immediately followed up, launching their attacks to capitalize on that brief moment.
Several hits landed, finally managing to chip away at the Flygon's Hp.
Drake quickly assessed the situation.
Both Salamence and the Flygon had taken the most damage, and each of them was now down to roughly one-third of their remaining HP. The rest of his team was in better condition, some injured, others still relatively fresh.
At the same time, the Flygon seemed to be doing the exact same thing. He hovered in the air, watching them closely. Then, without warning, he turned and began to fly away.
Drake immediately understood what that meant. It wasn't that the Flygon couldn't continue the fight, it simply didn't want to risk it.
He could try to force the pursuit, but in such a close battle, that would be a risk he wasn't willing to take.
There was no guarantee of victory, and losing even one of his Pokémon here would be unacceptable.
Aside from that, none of his Pokémon were fast enough to chase it down anyways, even if he wants to..
So he did nothing. He simply watched as the Flygon disappeared into the distance.
After a few seconds, Drake let out a quiet breath and looked down.
Several elite-level trainers were already gathered below, watching him. It seemed they had healed their Pokémons and had enough time to observe the battle from the ground.
Among them, he immediately spotted Wattson.
Drake gave a short command, and his Salamence, along with the rest of his team, descended and landed with controlled, almost effortless precision.
Once on the ground, Drake began treating his Pokémons with Hyper Potions.
After a moment, he glanced at Wattson and smiled faintly. he said, "Wattson, I'm not sure whether to call you lucky or unlucky for running into something like that. How did you even survive that encounter?"
Wattson responded with his usual relaxed demeanor, a grin spreading across his face. he said with a laugh. "I have no idea, maybe it just liked my face. Haha."
Drake watched him for a second, completely unfazed by the bad joke.
Then he answered in a serious tone, "Whatever the reason, that Pokémon is far too dangerous to be this close to the city."
He paused briefly, his gaze turning toward the direction the Flygon had disappeared.
"We need to decide what to do about it."
