Chapter 327 |
"Welcome to Earth, Your Majesty the Goddess Queen!" In the square of Schönbrunn Palace, Margot, acting as a representative, greeted Frigg who had personally arrived.
Just yesterday, the Kamar-Taj side once again acted as an intermediary to notify Josh’s side about the Asgard queen’s planned visit.
Because this was a relatively private visit, it was Margot, not Carol—the Queen of Austria—who came to receive her.
As for Josh, unless Odin himself appeared, he would never personally come out to greet anyone.
“Very pleased to meet you, Mrs. Kane!” Frigg responded very affectionately.
“Please come with me, I’ve already prepared some snacks and afternoon tea, we can have a good chat!” Facing Frigg’s warmth, Margot just smiled slightly, not surprised because upon receiving the news of the visit, she and Josh had already guessed the purpose of this trip.
This was also one of the reasons Josh didn’t want to show up here.
“The honor is mine!” Frigg nodded.
After taking a seat in the garden reception room, Frigg spoke first.
“I don’t really have any particular opinion. I’ve always been open-minded about Carol’s romantic issues, as long as she likes someone, it’s fine. However, her father has quite a big objection!” Margot raised her eyebrows and said.
“Oh? Why? As far as I know, Loki and Mr. Kane don’t seem to have much contact, right?” Frigg asked confusedly.
“Hey, who says not! But that’s because Loki’s reputation on Earth isn’t very good, isn’t it? Plus Josh only has Carol as his daughter, so naturally he feels some emotions.” Margot sighed.
“I see…but that’s just legend after all. Loki is a child I raised personally; I understand him better than anyone. Although his personality is somewhat erratic, his nature is actually kind. And in over a thousand years, I’ve never seen him care so much about a girl before!” Frigg defended her child.
Kind nature? Margot looked at her with a somewhat strange expression.
Is it really okay to say such blatant nonsense?
“…Is there a problem?” The usually calm Frigg felt a little guilty being stared at like that by Margot.
It does seem like the word ‘kind’ doesn’t really fit Loki…
“I understand it’s just a legend, but Loki still needs to prove himself somehow. Otherwise Josh wouldn’t so easily agree to this!” Margot shook her head slightly.
“Prove? How to prove?” Frigg asked confusedly.
“Very simple, whether Loki can give up everything he currently has for Carol!” Margot explained.
“Give up everything he currently has?” Frigg frowned.
“Yes, his identity, status as Asgard’s prince, and his claim to the throne!” Margot took a sip of tea.
“…You mean Loki has to marry into Carol’s family? Impossible, absolutely impossible!” Frigg’s face changed drastically.
“Nothing is impossible! Carol is the Queen of Austria, Austria is a core asset of the Kane family. If Loki wants to be with her, naturally he must sacrifice something! History is full of such examples. If Loki cannot accept this, then I think it’s better for them to part ways early!” Margot said.
“Is this Mr. Kane’s idea, or yours?” Frigg’s expression was unpredictable.
“It’s Josh’s idea, and also Carol’s decision!” Margot sighed.
“What? Carol agreed to this?” Hearing Margot’s words, Frigg felt alarmed.
As she said before, she knew Loki very well and knew that he valued his claim to the throne a lot, though under Thor’s overshadowing, he rarely showed it.
And now the Kane family asks Loki to give all that up for Carol…this is probably…
“Not only that, if they marry, Loki cannot marry Carol as an Asgardian. We will prepare an ordinary Earth identity for him!” Margot continued.
This statement hit Frigg’s heart like a heavy blow.
If the first condition made Frigg worry that Loki wouldn’t agree, she could still tolerate it—after all, Loki giving up his claim, while unfair to him, might actually benefit her other child, Thor.
But having Loki give up even his Asgardian identity, and only be able to marry Carol as a normal human, was unacceptable to Frigg.
What’s the matter? Does the Asgardian identity feed off your rice? Shame you?
When have the Asgardians ever suffered such grievances?
“Your Majesty the Queen, I know this condition is harsh, but I hope you understand that Earth’s era is different now. It doesn’t need a sudden divine realm popping up over its head. If Loki were to appear on Earth as an Asgardian, it would be a disaster for the current world order…” Seeing the worry on Frigg’s face, Margot explained.
“I understand. After I return, I will discuss this thoroughly with Loki and his father…I won’t keep you any longer!” Frigg sighed and nodded, signaling her departure to Margot.
From her perspective, if as Margot said, both Carol and Josh agreed to these two conditions, then this marriage would basically be off because Loki is unlikely to give up his claim to the throne, and proud Odin certainly would not allow his son to marry into a mortal royal family as a mortal.
Even if Loki is just an adopted son, and even if Odin respects this mortal royal family that is essentially divine.
“Child, don’t blame me for being harsh, but your status is different now. Every action you take must be responsible for all of Austria!” On the balcony of Schönbrunn Palace’s queen’s chamber, Josh sighed as he watched the rainbow bridge’s light fade after escorting Frigg, patting his daughter’s shoulder to comfort her.
At first, Josh strongly opposed Loki and Carol’s relationship, only because of his stereotypical impression of Loki and the anger of an old father whose precious daughter was being ‘nibbled’ without his knowledge.
But after several days of calm reflection, he had basically accepted his daughter’s feelings in principle—as long as she liked it.
But as he said, Carol is no longer an ordinary girl, but a leader of a nation.
From the moment she took this position, many things could no longer just go her way.
Just like marriage: although not as rigid as royal alliances of old, it’s not something Carol can decide entirely on her own.
To ensure the royal status, her future husband must abandon his original lifestyle to accommodate her as queen.
Like Prince Philip in neighboring England.
But with Loki’s personality, would he really give up everything for Carol?
That possibility was very low!
“No, Father, I understand! If Loki is unwilling, then let all the past be just a dream!” Carol forced a slight smile.
“If you really can’t let go, giving up the throne is also possible. Our family doesn’t completely need royal status anyway!” Though he initially showed strong opposition, seeing his daughter sad, Josh softened a bit.
“No, I am the queen of this country, and I always will be. That will never change!” Carol’s expression turned serious. Though young, she had the bearing of an unparalleled queen.
