Chapter 1394. A New Journey

In a room of an abandoned castle, sunlight shone through the gaps in the thick curtains, illuminating a pitch-black coffin.

Suddenly, the lid of the coffin creaked and slowly moved to the side.

With a thud, it fell to the ground.

A few seconds later, Azik Eggers sat up, looking rather lost.

At that moment, he was wearing loose pajamas that had been popular in Loen years ago. He resembled a noble who had woken up in his manor.

After a while, Azik narrowed his eyes slightly. He looked around in confusion as though he didn’t know who he was.

He then saw the brilliant sunlight that penetrated through the cracks and saw the dust dancing in the sunlight. He saw letters scattered on the table, ground, and coffin lid around him.

They were like giant snowflakes that blanketed half the area.

Azik got out of the coffin. With a puzzled expression, he bent down to pick up a letter and began reading.

As he read, the confusion on his face disappeared a little, as if he had remembered many things from the past.

Azik immediately found a chair and sat down, allowing all the letters to fly in front of him to stack up like a mountain.

He opened the letters one by one, reading them one after another. There would be pauses in between as he fell deep in thought as if he was seriously recalling something.

The sunlight that passed through the gap in the curtains gradually dimmed. After a long time, it shone inside again.

At that moment, Azik finally finished reading all the letters and completed the long contemplations that resembled Cogitation.

“He” looked at the letters that had been stacked on the table and slowly let out a long sigh.

Following that, he took out a piece of paper, a fountain pen, and some ink that he could still use. He wrote with a warm expression:

“…I’ve already woken up and received all your letters. They made me recall who I am and who you are. I also remember many memories of the past.

“Your experiences, no matter how complicated and exciting, have exceeded my imagination. It also makes me understand some of the problems that previously plagued me.

“I can feel your joy, your exhaustion, your faith in life, and the heavy responsibility that you have borne from your letters.

“I can roughly guess why you ultimately made that choice. If it were me, I might not even be able to make such a decision.

“From the beginning, you’ve been a guardian. You mimicked others until you were mimicked by others.

“Next, I will begin a journey to pursue the past and witness the changes in this world.

“You seem to still be asleep, but it doesn’t matter. I’ll write to tell you about the interesting things that I’ve encountered, the interesting traditions, and interesting people.

“I think I should be able to send these letters to you via sacrifice…”

The tip of the golden pen reflected the sunlight as it rustled on the white piece of paper, continuously penning down more content.

Backlund, in a solarium of a terrace house.

Melissa walked in with a girl who was clearly less than ten years old.

“Aunt Melissa, why here?” the little girl asked, puzzled. “All the stories I heard had mysterious rituals held in the basement.”

With her hair tied up, the bespectacled Melissa smiled and said, “Those are unconventional mysticism rituals.”

She pointed at the altar that had been set up and the unlit candles and said, “You may begin.”

“Really?” The little girl tilted her head to look at the bright sunshine outside the window. “Do we need to draw the curtains?”

“There’s no need. It’s pretty good this way.” After Melissa answered, she smiled at the little girl while she awkwardly mimicked her usual method of holding rituals in a clumsy and unfamiliar manner.

During this process, she would instruct her from time to time and even personally help her to complete the pre-ritual preparations.

“Alright, repeat after me.” Melissa took a deep breath as her expression gradually turned staid.

“Yes, yes.” The little girl tried her best to appear stern.

Melissa looked at the candle flames on the altar for a few seconds before slowly reciting in ancient Hermes, “The Fool that doesn’t belong to this era…”

“Da Pool that dun pelong to diz ela…” The little girl had never learned ancient Hermes before. Although she tried her best to imitate her aunt, she still didn’t know what she was saying.

“The mysterious ruler above the gray fog…” Melissa continued reciting.

“Da Mesterwes luler apove the gway pog…” the little girl recited in all seriousness.

“The King of Yellow and Black who wields good luck…” After Melissa finished reciting, the candle at the end didn’t wait for the little girl to imitate her. It immediately burgeoned to the size of a human head.

In the large flame, a slippery tentacle with a somewhat sinister pattern extended out in an indiscernible manner. It was extremely slow.

The little girl was stunned. She retreated and hid behind her aunt.

Melissa pursed her lips and said with a gentle smile, “Don’t be afraid, go greet him.”

The little girl timidly poked her head out from behind her aunt and saw the terrifying, slimy tentacle gently swaying in the brilliant sunlight that shone through the windows. It seemed to be attempting to swat away the dust or was waving at her.

“Go, don’t be afraid,” Melissa repeated.

The little girl finally mustered her courage and stood in front of the altar.

She recited the incantations she had just invented before revealing a sincere smile and raised her palm.

The slippery tentacle whose patterns had disappeared paused for a few seconds. It seemed hesitant and somewhat out of practice.

Then, it raised its head and curled up slightly, lowering itself inch by inch.

Amidst the sunlight, it high-fived that tiny palm.

I don't know when I had started this novel, but it was sometime last year. From that time till now, my reading was never consistent, but always was quite slow. That allowed me to think about novel for a large amount of the time I was free. Perhaps that's why this ending is hitting harder than anything else I have experienced. Cuttlefish made me experience a lot of things and I am truly thankful for all of it. I don't think I will be starting COI instantly, but see yao all there when I do!

Final review: The final stretch of this book was incredible, even if it felt a bit rushed. That was the saddest part for me, I don’t know what got into Cuttlefish to make him speed up the ending so much. Yeah, it was epic, the battles and the development were great, I’m not gonna lie, but because of that, we didn't even get to see Klein actually wrap things up with his family in the main story. Is he even coming back? I know there are side stories, but they’re just that, side stories.

In those final battles, the only thing that bothered me was when Klein turned into The Fool, we barely had time to process it before being thrown into another fight. I get why he did it, though, given the lack of time.
This analysis is focusing on this volume, volumes 7 and 8 are basically the same thing, I have no idea why they’re even split up. It’d be from chapter 1267 onwards.
The City of Silver is saved, they move to the sea, and that’s gonna be huge. Danitz became The Fool’s Oracle, Derrick became a bishop of the Church of the Fool along with the other elders, and finally, Alger is free. After being tied to the Church for so long, he’s finally cut loose and will only get stronger by the end of the story. Cattleya became a pirate to pursue The Fool’s mission. Fors is going to write the story of Mr. World to bring The Fool’s legend to the world. Xio, my least favorite member, actually had decent development, she got revenge for her father and will probably be more relevant in COI. Lady Audrey or Justice, our favorite club member, had massive growth in the final volumes, she’s way more mature now than at the start, along with her loyal Susie. Emlyn only got good at the very end because of his last chapter, otherwise, it would’ve been weird. Now, Leonard, I can’t really tell if he actually changed. His development peaked right after Ince died, and then we just saw him looking for a purpose. The ending was so rushed we didn't even see him fighting in the war or becoming a demigod.

Now, the battles. Since the last two volumes had the most action, starting with the war in Backlund with the Evernight Goddess, to me, it was one of Cuttlefish’s biggest mistakes to make that fight so fast. It really bothered me how we didn't get a proper look at that war.

The final battles were Zaratul vs. Klein and the gods. I know there were a ton of people and deities involved, but that fight was epic. Honestly, Zaratul is the biggest fraud since Suah, the author built up so much hype around him, but the moment he had a fair 1v1, he got absolutely smoked.

The battle to take The Fool’s Uniqueness and ascend, man, I’m still a bit confused about some parts, but it was a total clusterf#ck of divine powers: from Adam pretending to be a Great Old One to the God of Craftsmanship, who did nothing the whole story only to pull through for Klein at the last second. I think everyone made a move, and if it weren't for the Mother of Night, I’m sure Klein would’ve been dead for good.

The Fool vs. Mr. Error: that was the ultimate battle of wits. I’ll hate Amon forever for forcing Klein into a coma, if he hadn’t been such a pain, Klein wouldn't have nearly died. The battle was epic, pure 4D chess, deceptions within deceptions, the God of Deceit vs. a 'kid' in the Beyonder world. In the end, since Amon is a mythical creature and not a human, he valued his own life too much to take the bet and fled to the cosmos. I’m dying to see that bastard finally go down.

Mr. Azik is back, that's great! It's a shame he took so long, but he's okay, and that's what matters.

What is Adam up to? He almost became the true Creator, but he was terrified of being possessed by the LOTM.

And then we have the Lord of Mysteries himself, the craziest guy in the universe, he trapped everyone, 'Either you revive me so I can save you, or everyone dies.' Simple as that. This Great Old One, whose name I can never remember correctly, is the ultimate anomaly. The Fool is unstoppable, immortal. My only gripe is that we didn't get any actual dialogue with him.

In the end, I just want Klein to be happy. He’s starting to look like Guts, never gets a break. He’s going to sleep, so he’ll show up in the next book, but probably not much. There’ll likely be a 7-year time skip, and the third book will probably have a different protagonist. I already heard the second book isn't as good as this one.

It's impossible not to mention Klein's family, Melissa, who is now an adult, that innocent girl we saw at the beginning who loved engineering, and Benson, a manual laborer who did everything for his family. Now that he's married and has a new family, it saddens me greatly that Klein isn't there anymore.

In the end, Captain Dunn's speech extends throughout the entire story of Klein.
    As Captain Dunn once said:
"We are guardians, but also a bunch of wretches who constantly fight against threats and madness"

To wrap this up, it was great reading this with all of you. It was often intriguing, funny, or challenging, but it was way better than reading alone. It’s been a long 4-month journey, I could’ve finished it in two, but I chose to take it slow. Anyway, I hope to see you all in the COI with the same crazy theories and nonsense.
The list of quotes from the fool, I think I'll have to go back to the beginning of the story to explain why I didn't do this at the start. But so far, that's the count.
