Chapter 48: When You’re Out There, Your Identity Is Whatever You Make It

“You know who’s behind them?” Aelia looked at Vivian with suspicion written all over her face.

“Of course. According to my informant’s investigation, it’s already been confirmed who it is,” Vivian replied.

“Informant?” The more she heard, the less Aelia believed it.

Vivian had just arrived in Silvermoon City—where would she get an informant from? Yet her confident tone didn’t sound like she was lying.

So Aelia decided to hear her out.

She watched as Vivian lowered her voice, looking mysterious.

“Let me tell you a secret—I have a dedicated intelligence organization.”

“Everyone in my organization is elite. Each one has at least decades of experience in intelligence work.”

“Nothing that happens in Silvermoon City escapes their eyes.”

“You should also understand how much it costs to maintain such a large group every year.”

“So you should know the value of this information.”

“You’re not lying to me?” The more Vivian spoke, the more unreliable it sounded to Aelia.

“How could I possibly lie to you?” Vivian added, “So, are you interested in this intelligence?”

“How much are you selling it for?” Taking a “better safe than sorry” attitude, Aelia asked.

“Not much. Since we’re old acquaintances, I’ll give you a friendly price—100 gold coins.”

“One hundred gold coins?!” Before Aelia could respond, Lilith lost her composure first.

Seeing both of them look at her, Lilith quickly shut her mouth and forced an awkward smile.

This was outrageous!

She had personally seen that Vivian had just bought this information from the goblin for 10 silver coins.

And now she was trying to sell it for 100 gold coins.

Moreover, if Lilith guessed correctly, this so-called “intelligence organization” was probably just that unemployed goblin.

Yet Aelia’s response was something Lilith never expected.

“If your information is true, then I can agree.”

What?! You actually agreed?!

Lilith felt like her entire world had gone wrong.

“Very good. You’ve made a wise decision.”

“So, can you tell me who it is now?”

“Connor Watson,” Vivian replied.

“Him?” Aelia frowned, seemingly judging the credibility of the information.

“Do you have any evidence?”

This question was met with a look from Vivian as if she were looking at an idiot.

“I only provide intelligence. As for finding evidence, isn’t that the job of your Enforcement Hall?”

Hearing this, Aelia was momentarily speechless.

What she said made so much sense that Aelia couldn’t refute it.

After a brief silence…

She took out 100 gold coins.

“Fine, I’ll buy this information.”

Taking the coins, Vivian nodded in satisfaction. “Pleasure doing business. Come to me again next time.”

After sending Aelia off, Lilith was practically incoherent.

“Wait… Vivian, you just made 100 gold coins like that?”

“And where did this intelligence organization come from? That’s just an unemployed goblin!”

Hearing this, Vivian raised her index finger and waved it side to side in front of her.

“This is where you don’t understand. When you’re out there, your identity is whatever you make it.”

“Lilith, you need to understand something—everything needs packaging. Only after packaging can it be sold at a good price.”

“And do you really think I did all this just for those 100 gold coins?”

“Then what else?” Lilith asked.

“You’re thinking too small.”

“This whole matter clearly looks troublesome. You know what goblins are like.”

“If nothing happens, that’s fine. But the moment something goes wrong, they’ll sell us out without hesitation.”

“So I added a layer of insurance—let the Enforcement Hall handle the mess. If something happens, they’ll be the ones taking the hit.”

Hearing this, Lilith was stunned.

“Something’s not right!”

“Vivian, something’s really not right with you. You’re definitely not the Vivian I know. The Vivian I know isn’t this smart.”

Hearing this, Jiang Chen’s hand controlling the mouse paused slightly.

“What does that mean? Why is the NPC suddenly saying this?”

“Could this be some kind of interaction? NPCs breaking the fourth wall and discovering the player’s existence?”

“And then the player has to eliminate NPCs who notice the anomaly?”

Although it sounded absurd, Jiang Chen felt that given this game company’s style, it wasn’t entirely impossible.

While Jiang Chen was still thinking about this…

On Vivian’s side…

This is bad!

Lilith, stop talking!

You’re about to get yourself killed!

You idiot Lilith, how can you say anything that comes to mind?!

Vivian was panicking internally.

Meanwhile, Lilith remained completely unaware and kept rambling.

“So, Vivian, your changes lately have been huge.”

“Sometimes I even wonder if you’ve been possessed by something dirty.”

“But that’s impossible, haha. I was just imagining things. I’ve been reading too many novels lately and my imagination’s running wild.”

“Hahaha, if I keep staying up late reading like this every day, I’m going to get sick.”

You’re not going to get sick—you were just one step away from dying.

Vivian complained frantically in her heart.

“Huh? Why do I suddenly feel a chill down my back?” Lilith turned around in confusion to look at Vivian behind her.

What she saw was Vivian’s smiling face.

“Maybe you’re catching a cold. Just take some medicine.”

Vivian replied.

As for Jiang Chen, his earlier strange thought had just been a whim, and he didn’t take it seriously.

Now, his attention shifted to something else.

【NPC Quest: Collect Intelligence】

【Quest Reward: ???】

【Information Obtained: The mastermind behind the black-robed individuals (unverified), Reward Paid -99 gold coins 90 silver coins】

【You may end the commission at any time to settle rewards】

【Current Evaluation: E+】

“Damn, negative 99 gold coins—this method actually works!”

“As long as it’s intelligence related to this quest, gold obtained through other NPCs also counts.”

“The evaluation increased so easily.”

As if thinking of something, Jiang Chen shifted his gaze to Lilith beside him.

A new idea suddenly formed.

“Lilith, don’t you also want to buy my intelligence?”

“I don’t,” Lilith answered decisively.

“No, you do,” Jiang Chen corrected, silently taking out the Misty Moon Dream.

Seeing this, Lilith’s expression stiffened.

“I… I probably do want it…”

“So, 100 gold coins,” Vivian said.

Lilith’s mouth twitched. “I feel like I’m being robbed.”

Then…

“The evaluation didn’t increase, and the paid reward amount didn’t change.”

Jiang Chen frowned. “Looks like farming gold this way doesn’t work.”

But Jiang Chen didn’t give up.

“I refuse to believe I can’t exploit this bug.”

Vivian’s gaze swept across the surroundings.

Soon, a young Enforcement Officer wearing several seemingly expensive accessories caught her attention.

“Young man, I heard you’ve been investigating those black-robed individuals selling Sacred Artifacts.”

“As long as you’re willing, I’ll sell you this information at a huge discount.”

And so…

Income +50 gold coins

Income +10 gold coins

Income +5 gold coins

……

At this moment, watching the Evil God’s actions, Vivian was completely dumbfounded.

Wait, what are you doing, Lord Evil God?!

That’s not how you sell intelligence!

If you keep selling information like this, you’re going to get beaten to death!
