Chapter 496: An Unsettling Smoothness »

After leaving Shangjing, Chen Changsheng lost no time and went to Tongtian River.

The Old Dragon King was not in the Dragon Palace.

Chen Changsheng was greeted by the Turtle Prime Minister of the Dragon Palace.

After seeing this Mr. Chen, the old turtle was extremely respectful, afraid to show any neglect. Spirit fruits and fine dishes were served continuously, and song and dance were arranged.

Having rushed eagerly all the way, Chen Changsheng took the chance to rest a little.

“Has the Dragon Lord gone out to bring rain?”

“Exactly,” the turtle replied. “Since the Mortal Dynasty’s Fortune grew prosperous, sweet dew showers have become more frequent in the Mortal World. The Dragon Lord has been busy because of it and is often not in the Dragon Palace.”

“If the Second Prince and the Dragon Princess came to assist, perhaps it wouldn’t be so busy.”

Turtle Prime Minister answered: “The Second Prince has been gradually learning these days. The Dragon Lord’s plan is to entrust a portion of the Heaven and Earth to the Second Prince’s governance after his Dragon Ascension. As for matters of incense offerings, he intends to leave them to the Dragon Princess.”

After hearing this, Chen Changsheng said: “Good. He really should rest a bit.”

The Old Dragon King was indeed very old already.

Chen Changsheng looked at Turtle Prime Minister and asked: “What about you, Turtle Prime Minister? When will you be able to rest?”

Turtle Prime Minister chuckled: “How could this old turtle rest? The affairs of the Dragon Palace, high and low, all need tending. If we were to put someone else in charge, this old turtle wouldn’t feel at ease.”

Chen Changsheng shook his head with a smile and didn’t ask more.

A moment later, the Dragon Princess hurried back from outside.

Ying En smiled: “Uncle Chen, why didn’t you send word ahead? Ying En hasn’t prepared anything at all.”

Chen Changsheng said: “My arrival was rushed, and I won’t stay long. There’s no need for preparations.”

Ying En probably guessed what Uncle Chen had come for.

“Uncle Chen, you’ve come about the Evil Spirits, haven’t you?”

“Exactly.”

Ying En immediately took Chen Changsheng to the dungeon beneath the Dragon Palace.

Speaking of which, Ying En and Yingyuan had captured quite a few Evil Spirits over the years.

Since the Dragon Palace’s relationship with the outside world was quite good, they often received tips, making the hunt for Evil Spirits not too difficult.

In those years, they had captured nearly seventy Evil Spirits.

After looking at them one by one, Chen Changsheng asked: “Dragon Princess, have you ever seen Evil creatures like arms or torsos?”

The Dragon Princess thought for a moment, then shook her head.

“Alright.”

Seeing her reaction, Chen Changsheng didn’t press further.

Ying En then asked: “Uncle Chen, Ying En would like to ask for your guidance on matters of the Path of Divine Incense.”

“Dragon Princess, please go ahead and ask.”

Chen Changsheng answered each of Ying En’s questions one by one.

This Dragon Ascension through incense offerings was an entirely new cultivation method, never tried by predecessors. All along this path, Ying En had been feeling her way forward on her own, inevitably encountering points of confusion.

In the early years, she could manage, but now, as the Dragon Ascension approached, the difficulties had become much greater.

Chen Changsheng’s understanding of this Path wasn’t particularly deep, but he could still offer Ying En some advice, or perhaps direction.

Having received some explanations, Ying En felt inspired.

“Thank you, Uncle Chen,” Ying En said.

Chen Changsheng nodded: “When it’s time for the Dragon Ascension, remember to notify me. This uncle will oversee the ritual to protect you then.”

Ying En smiled and said: “Uncle Chen, you mustn’t fail to come then.”

Chen Changsheng smiled: “I will be there on time.”

He then inquired where the Second Prince had gone.

Later, after listening to the Dragon Princess, he learned that ever since the Second Prince visited the Cultivation World last time and saw more of its splendor, he became reluctant to return. He was still out there exploring.

A good thing too, opportunities in the Cultivation World were always much greater than in the Mortal World.

After chatting casually for a while, Chen Changsheng prepared to leave.

Just then, as he stepped out, the Dragon Lord returned.

“Well, well, Chen Changsheng!”

The Old Dragon Lord looked at Chen Changsheng and said: “You come without a word, and as soon as I get back, you’re leaving?”

“Aren’t you going to ask me to stay for dinner?” Chen Changsheng laughed.

“Is the food in my Dragon Palace bad?”

“Naturally, it’s excellent.”

The Dragon Lord grunted and said: “Now that you’re here, don’t think of leaving! I insist on drinking you under the table!”

“How about next time?”

Chen Changsheng said: “These past years, I have been exceedingly busy. Once I have some free time, I’ll share drinks with you, Dragon Lord, ’til we’re drunk or done, alright?”

The Dragon Lord looked at him, puzzled: “How strange. What matter could be keeping a free spirit like you so busy?”

Chen Changsheng sighed helplessly: “There’s no choice.”

The Dragon Lord asked: “Not a small matter, is it?”

“A sky-filling matter.”

“Alright!”

The Dragon Lord waved his hand: “Off you go now. This Lord doesn’t feel like entertaining you anyway.”

“Next time.”

“Go, go, go.”

In the end, Chen Changsheng felt practically booted out.

That Old Dragon Lord simply loves mischief.

But that was fine too. At least there was no sense of unfamiliarity.

Carrying these Evil Spirits, Chen Changsheng left Tongtian River and journeyed along the water into the Desolate Sea.

As he flew over the Desolate Sea, Chen Changsheng clearly felt his Magical Power draining unusually fast, and it was far less effortless or exhilarating than Sword Flight.

“Speaking of which, where is ‘Listening to Rain’ now…”

Chen Changsheng murmured to himself, but he didn’t lift his hand to divine the answer.

He felt that perhaps when the time came, the sword would return on its own.

Reaching the Desolate Sea, Chen Changsheng planned to use his old trick again: give a loud shout. That method was always faster. Visiting island by island would likely take too long, risking missing the right time.

This time he was smarter, finding a quiet, secluded spot.

At least it wouldn’t disturb the Cultivation World.

Chen Changsheng raised two fingers and called out.

[“I request the Dragon Descendants of the Desolate Sea to appear. I, Chen, have come this time to fulfill the vow made before.”]

Chen Changsheng then settled to wait upon the vast expanse of the Desolate Sea.

Roughly a quarter of an hour passed.

The waters in all directions began to churn. Dozens of auras converged towards this spot, thick with Demonic Qi, gathering storm clouds, wind, and rain.

One great demon after another surged forth from within the Desolate Sea.

And the swiftest to arrive was a Black Dragon.

They hadn’t met in years. Moyuan now carried a hint of Baleful Aura about him. It seemed the Desolate Sea was truly unruly, forcing even this robbery-touting chatterbox to get serious.

“I pay my respects to Your Excellency.”

“Greetings, Mr. Chen.”

Chen Changsheng clasped his hands towards them all in thanks and spoke: “These years, many thanks to all of you for laboring on my behalf. Thank you.”

“Your Excellency, you are too kind,” one replied. “Without the ‘Dragon Scripture’, how could we humble ones have had the opportunity to advance?”

“Exactly,” another agreed.

Chen Changsheng smiled amiably and thanked them once more.

The various Dragon Descendant Demon Kings then presented the Evil Spirits they had captured over the years.

The sheer number took Chen Changsheng somewhat by surprise.

Nearly two hundred!

It seemed a great many Evil Spirits had indeed been hiding within the Desolate Sea.

Moyuan watched this scene unfold, quietly marveling within.

Throughout countless ages past, the Desolate Sea had known only relentless strife and slaughter. Such a scene of harmony could only be brought about by Mr. Chen himself.

At a quick glance, there were over a dozen Demon Kings present. Without exception, each had crawled through mountains of corpses and seas of blood; each was more ferocious and ruthless than the last.

And yet, they all willingly carried out tasks for Mr. Chen.

It really was no small feat.

Moyuan sighed inwardly, reflecting that he had struggled in the Desolate Sea for decades, yet his words held a fraction of the weight of just one word from Mr. Chen.

Truly incomparable!

It had to be the Master.
