MTL is a slow acting poison this time
Author or MTL seems to enjoy making characters suddenly have experienced something that was never in the story before
Also the non-MTL looks like chatgpt to me, synonymous phrases and titles keep getting switched though no big issue with names

(I’m writing a whole new review since I have a lot to say now that I’ve finished the mtl, and since I couldn’t comment there I’ll yap here. If you want an earlier review go to my other review, it should still be good.)

Fu#k. If I knew this novel had such an ending I might not have started it. It’s too pessimistic all throughout, I never saw any hope even in the end. I’m happy to have read this though, it’s a really high quality novel in my opinion. 5/5 based on the impact on me, but I would give it a lower rating based on satisfaction, because there isn’t much of that. The author knew what he was doing though, it was a good story. The mtl is pretty much exactly like the translation so you don’t have to wait, and there are only less than 10 messed up chapters throughout all 1495 chapters. Those chapters have messed up paragraphs order but you should be able to keep going.

This is a story of an immortal who can’t give up his emotions at all, it’s utterly impossible. He is a mortal full of love for the mortal world, one who should not have an immortal life, for obvious reasons. If you are looking for a cultivation novel, you are at the wrong place. Even after reading all the mtl chapters, I still don’t know all the cultivation realms except a few names. There are obviously moments where the mc uses his powers but it’s mostly not about that. This novel is more about the mc finding more about himself, his past, the mayfly curse, and most importantly his bonds with others. But while he mostly stayed in the “mortal realm” in the first 1,000 chapters, he still has bonds with some cultivators. I’d say it’s only after chapter 1,100 that the story becomes much more serious, and it’s the late 1200’s when we fully learn about the mc’s past. For those who are around that point and are waiting for (late game spoiler), that is around chapter 1275.

A few more final reminders I have are that 1. This novel is predominantly about the mc in the mortal realm in like about 70% of the novel. The immortal realm and the mortal realm are in the same world, it’s just that the mc stays where the mortals are most of the time, and it is only later on when the mc has some sort of purpose that he leaves. It’s sad really, what this purpose of his is. 2. The mc is imperfect in many ways. Later on I was somewhat even disappointed in him, but I understood some of his choices when I realized he is not really a cultivator. Just a mortal with emotions and a lot of power. This is somewhat a spoiler but this explains the difference between the mc and other strong cultivators . 3. This story does not always follow the mc, it feels like it follows the world more during a period of time, around after chapter 1,000. It shows the POV of quite a few characters connected to the mc, as a lot of the time he is dead and is waiting to get revived. I’ve wrote and deleted a lot of things but ultimately I don’t want to spoil this novel for you all. It really is a good novel, but not for the weak hearted or for those who are here for action. Much more slice of life. My main regret in this novel is . Mo Yuan is my favorite character in this novel! Mc might not even be top 5. Not because I dislike him but he’s like what I’m scared to become, the scariest part of immortality that is always glazed over, seeing those close to you getting old. But he should have treated some people better, could have helped some people when they needed help, and he really messed up in some places, but in the end he’s imperfect so I can’t blame him. . I just wish to sleep now, hopefully a good dream if you know what I mean (people who haven’t read, don’t try to guess, this is not like Omniscient Reader’s Standpoint)

its good. I really enjoyed it. the rating is fair if not a bit under, imo its a 7.5/10 (that's really good, its above average. would likely be higher if not for lack of chapters.)
the mc, Chen Changsheng, is like the most Daoist Daoist ive seen. he has essentially no mortal ties anymore.
Pros: good characters, no one acts out for no reason. they have depth and complexity that isn't found in common slop.
the mc is also really good character wise. he isn't dumb but also isn't overtly smart that makes him seem like the next coming of einstein. He acts like a regular person but with an insane amount of wisdom, which has an explenation that fits into the story (he essentially goes into an empty space with nothing but his consciousness for 3 years straight multiple times.)
it also has some mystery to it, like why is he cursed? can he escape the curse? etc

Cons: most of the cons are going to be personal preference.
something some may dislike is how slow the story is. it has a lot of focus on characters rather than the actual curse. but that's essentially the point of the story. another con is the translation. it isn't unreadable but could definitely be better. it also doesn't have a focus on the cultivation or jianghu until recent chapters.

but this can all bu summed up to, its slow, has few chapters, but all chapters are quality. it may not be your preference if you dislike slow stories of action heavy stories, but its enjoyable if you enjoy character centric stories.

Seems interesting will poison test my first impression from the description however I’d like those many lives romance novels just without the romance so I am very willing to read or even continue to read if it ends up disappointing or hit that “training arc” drop after the mc eventually (obviously) overcomes the mayfly curse which im guessing isn’t simply a lifespan thing

This is a really good novel. I’m currently at chapter 92 in the mtl from this site and I have to say even that translation is really good. Pretty much the same as the original translation. With almost 1,500 chapters I still have a lot to read so I’ll edit this comment later on. For now I’ll give a little synopsis.

It takes place in a type of ancient China type place, in obviously another world. The mc is literally like a mayfly, living and dying very quickly over and over again. To other people he seems immortal since he only comes back to life every 3 years and never ages, and he doesn’t even know why. To others this seems as if he comes down to the mortal world every 3 years and is immortal. It’s so sad sometimes seeing how lonely the mc is because everyone he gets to know quickly ages in his eyes, and he can’t have a deep relationship with anyone because of this. This novel is less about cultivation and more about the mc’s journey to finding more about himself and the people he meets along the way. Of course there is some cultivation but it is not always the main focus. There is also some mystery in this novel as the mc is trying to learn more about himself and his hidden past. It is explained around chapter 50 that I like how no one wants to slight him, he has this aura about him which makes it so even the rudest people don’t dare to be rude to him. He’s a very calm and nice person to everyone, but also a very lonely person. I just fear this might end up being a tragedy.
