Chapter 96: Getting Himself Committed |
Guan Shan frowned. 'Easy to talk to?'
He furrowed his brow, unable to reconcile this description with the image of Jiang Siyuan. A person who spent all his time doing nothing but nitpicking to establish his "authority" and "easy to talk to" just didn't seem to go together.
Li Zhiying said, "I've visited him twice since he was hospitalized. He seems to be genuinely scared. His temperament is much better now. Or rather..."
She pondered her words carefully before continuing, "I feel like his responses have become a bit slow."
Li Zhiying then laughed at herself, "Of course, this is just my impression. His family wouldn't let anything happen to him, so maybe it's just me overthinking, or maybe it's the medication."
'Is she hinting that the "master" hired by Jiang Siyuan's family is suspicious?' Guan Shan wondered.
Even Liu Rui knew about this master, so Li Zhiying must also know. If she says the hospital or the master has problems, there must be something to it.
However, this was Jiang Siyuan's issue, not his. If Jiang Siyuan had indeed been messed up by this master, it would be considered a good deed.
Shaking his head, Guan Shan looked out of the window and noticed that they had arrived at Sacred Heart Hospital. He ended the call and got out of the car.
'It seems there aren't many patients here... which makes sense since mental hospitals wouldn't usually be overcrowded, especially a private one with high fees.' Guan Shan thought as he curiously wandered around.
The hospital's environment was impressively good. The architecture resembled early 20th-century Western houses, with marble columns and a beautiful fountain garden at the entrance.
If not told, one wouldn't know this was a mental hospital; they might think it's a private mansion of some wealthy person.
Guan Shan was soon spotted by a passing nurse while exploring the first floor.
The nurse, around thirty years old, stopped him with a polite smile. "Sir, do you need any assistance?"
Guan Shan felt that although the nurse's smile was courteous, her eyes showed a hint of wariness.
Perhaps recent incidents of the patient's family causing trouble made the hospital staff nervous. Although the family hadn't done anything extreme yet, the notorious cases of medical disputes were fresh in people's minds, making them wary.
Guan Shan smiled back, "I've got an appointment with Dr. Lu. Do you know which floor she's on?"
"We have two doctors named Lu. Which one are you looking for?"
"Lu Qiuqiu."
Guan Shan showed his appointment details on his phone, and the nurse nodded, leading the way, "I'll take you there."
He followed the nurse, taking the elevator to the third floor. From the window on this floor, he could see a large grassy area at the back of the hospital, where some patients were walking with caregivers.
Noticing his gaze, the nurse explained, "That's our rehabilitation area for long-term patients. Relaxation can speed up recovery. However, long-term stays are a bit more expensive."
She smiled, "But I don't think you need that service."
Guan Shan raised an eyebrow and turned to her, "Are you sure?"
The nurse seriously replied, "I've been working here for ten years, taking care of countless patients. But you seem... very healthy."
Guan Shan shrugged, "If I were healthy, I wouldn't be here."
The nurse was taken aback and then apologized, "Sorry..."
"That's a compliment; no need to apologize." Guan Shan shook his head. "Is Dr. Lu in Room 7? I'll head there myself—by the way, is there a hospital map? I might get lost; this place is quite large."
The nurse pointed to the other side of the corridor, "There's one on the wall over there. If you need help, any staff can assist you."
Guan Shan thanked the nurse and headed to Room 7.
The door was open, and no one was calling numbers. He knocked and called, "Dr. Lu?"
The doctor, unexpectedly young, around twenty-seven or twenty-eight, with straight black hair tied into a neat ponytail, wore a white coat. Her demeanor was calm and gentle, exuding an approachable aura.
She looked up with a warm smile and nodded in greeting, "Mr. Guan, please have a seat."
Guan Shan closed the door and sat down. Dr. Lu Qiuqiu straightforwardly asked, "Do you feel any psychological pressure recently? You can talk about any issues you have, whether in life or work. Rest assured, our conversation is confidential."
Guan Shan said, "I think my problem is more than just psychological pressure..."
Dr. Lu, accustomed to patients exaggerating their conditions, knew how to comfort and guide their emotions. "What do you think your problem is? You can talk about anything, happy or sad. This way, I can fully understand your situation."
She believed this young man was just an ordinary patient.
Not being judgmental, but a person's psychological state greatly affects their external demeanor. Unless a patient has mastered and controlled their psychological state, which is rare...
But the man in front of her was full of vigor and had clear, focused eyes. Any random office worker would probably have more severe psychological issues than him.
Guan Shan thought for a moment and then said, "Recently... sometimes things look a bit strange."
Dr. Lu picked up a pen. "Strange in what way? For example?"
Guan Shan felt the need to make up some symptoms to test Dr. Lu's character and skills.
He said, "For example, I went for a late-night snack recently. At first, everything was fine, but before I started eating, I saw the waiter's face turn into a tumor. The meat in the pot became rotten organs, and other customers around me turned into zombies and came at me."
Recalling that scene still gave him goosebumps.
Dr. Lu's smile gradually became serious. She noticed the man's expression was genuinely recalling, showing unease and fear.
These were real emotions, not fake.
"…And then?"
Guan Shan naturally continued, "Then I found a gun on the ground beside me, grabbed it, and killed all the monsters."
Dr. Lu looked at him, "That's all?"
Guan Shan sincerely replied, "That's all."
He felt he had said something ridiculous enough. Perhaps this Dr. Lu would think he was here to cause trouble and would send him away soon.
Dr. Lu's face grew solemn. "Do you think these people were real or fake?"
"Of course, they were fake."
Guan Shan spread his hands helplessly. "If they were real, could I be here now? Besides, how could you randomly find a gun in China?"
"Moreover, I later found out that the shop had been closed for a long time, and there was no one inside."
After he finished, he curiously watched Dr. Lu write.
What would she record about such a ridiculous story?
Dr. Lu nodded, asked a few more detailed questions, then stopped writing, her expression serious. "Mr. Guan, I believe your description might indicate symptoms of cognitive impairment and schizophrenia, but your case is special since you seem to maintain rationality."
"Therefore, my suggestion is to admit you for observation."
Guan Shan: "…???"
'I haven't even mentioned the codes from the documents, and she's already trying to admit me?'
